  • @BrownEyedEnder I don't think there is any harm in doing both, do a few times without the books and then a few times with the books. remember that if your dog does lift a little higher than normal without the books you should jackpot with the treats. also aim to click at the moment your dogs leg is at the highest point, if you click too late you reward the foot going downward so aim your click at the hight or the behaviour but as the leg is still going up into the air.

  • I feel like I've loved your videos since the beginning of time xxx

  • @tehrenberg not as much as I love your videos! we have known each other forever now Tracy! :) xxx

  • You shouldn't use clickers, because dogs have very sensitive ears. Clicking a clicker over and over again is very painful for them. Instead, try a e-collar. An e-collar gives your dog a tiny massages on their neck as a signal that they did the job right. Dogs that train with an e-collar have also been found to be more responsive. GL

  • @blanknot what the heck? wow.. just wow... Clickers do not damage a dogs ears, dogs do have sensitive ears, but not THAT sensitive... it is not painful to them, they enjoy training at every moment and often times long for more, but as you probably know, you people cannot train 5-6 hours at one time. did u even SEE how responsive dogs are to a clicker? do your reaserch...

  • @GoneToTheDoggy totally agree

  • never mind ;)

  • I like this song what song is it?

  • hi, this is great! I was just wondering if you add a word or command to it at some point?

  • @ToPeVeNtErr hey, you can see how I add in the cue word in my roll over video, I do it the same way for each trick :-) hope that helps :-)

  • Hehe, as a fellower agilitier, is this trick going to screw up my midway 2o2o training? I am relatively new to clicker training, and he gets quite stuck on tricks. E.g. I taught him to drag an object towards him when I say 'it's yours!' (cute XD) but he now does this with whatever i give him :L so.. i dont want him to go for 1o3o :P xx

  • @Ella4Blu to help stop confusion you should train this in a different room to 2o2o training and use a different prop. make sure that you add in your cue in at the correct time (you could check out my roll over tutorial) and then once it is on cue ONLY reward when you have given the cue. all dogs offer their different behaviours when they are not 100% sure or want an easy treat so don't worry! just stick to only rewarding after you have given the cue and you will be fine.

  • This is a cute trick for my Dachshund pup as well. We call it wee-wee as a cue because it does look like he's going wee on the wall. It's a predecessor to the hand stand - so we got 2 tricks out of the handstand session. BTW my doxy is doing handstand all over the place where there's a wall but I haven't tried the free-wall handstand yet. It's still a work in progress... thanks for all the great vids Sian!!!

  • aww, that is great news :-) yes, it does take lots of time to get your dog away from the wall but it's worth taking it slow so as they can build up the right muscles for the job :-)

  • I'm teaching my chihuahua this trick.... hopefully it will be a success!

  • Very nice videos. :D I'm training my Border Collie mix how to do a bunch of tricks. She pretty lazy and gets distracted by everything. I've been using the clicker and from what 've read I think I'm doing it right. xD Keep posting videos and I'll keep watching. Your dogs are beautiful, by the way. :P

  • aww, that's good news that you are getting into clicker training :-) I like to keep sessions short, like no more than 10 minutes at a time, I use real meat to to get them really interested and I play games with them where I reward them for eye contact. also I like to start new tricks and behaviours in a quiet room with no distractions and no other people. I hope that was a little help :-)

  • i don't get the point of lifting the leg up lol

    :)

  • tricks like this are used to help in training agility, the best agility dog trainers mostly train a bunch of different tricks to help all over body awareness. also my dogs are from working border collie backgrounds and have high drive so tricks help to keep their minds busy. it's also like a kind of a sport in that some people like to get good at it and others like to watch it, I like watching Tennis, but there is no practical point to it, it's just something that I personally like watching :-)

  • awesome i have a nine month old border collie and i have not used clicker training with her is it too late to start and if not what do i start with

  • no way, it's never too late to start! Holly (the dog in this video) was a year before I began with the clicker! I'll send you some info on clicker training.

  • i swear my brothers dog lifts both her back legs up after she pees. its like she doesnt want to get it on her back feet. No one taught her we were all surprised like wtf lol

  • LOL! if she does that naturally then you should check out my dog handstand video and try to train her to do it on cue! she obviously wants to be on her front paws! haha!!

  • Very clever and amazing!!!!!

  • Thank you so much :-)

  • i hope my dog can do it. how long will this trick be done by an average adult dog?

  • Its very hard to guess how long it will take as it depends on how much training your dog has done before and how quickly your dog takes to this trick. I would aim to do around 3 short training sessions of about 5 minutes each day and I would be very surprised if youre not making some progress after a week. If you want more information then mail me :-)

  • BOMB!!!!!

  • Great video, I love clicker training but this's a new one on me...sooo funny...have to try it later, thanks for sharing

  • hehe, I've just trained my puppy this one so I may have to make a video of her very soon :-) I'm so glad you liked the video, you must tell me how you get on!

  • What is your que word for this?

I have alot of trouble coming up with commands for the things i teach my dog, haha.

  • I use the word toes and point to which side I want :-) lift or kick or raise would be other options. If you ever get stuck I like to type words into a thesaurus and get some ideas!

  • Thats a really neat trick! Fitting music too :-)

  • haha, thank you so much :-)

  • I started trying you backing up in a circle and I got the hind leg coming up like in this video. I love it. Did you teach her to do both hind legs before the handstand? COOL Video!

  • I trained the handstand first, in a different part of the room but by the time I trained the back legs I had moved off of the books and onto the wall for the handstand. really glad you liked it :-)

  • 5/5 and subscribed!

    Awesome video!

This will be fun to try with my Jack Russell X!

  • yay! I'm so glad you liked it! Let me know how you get on with it because I love feedback. Any questions, just mail me :-)

    Happy training!

  • Awesome!! Do you think my corgi could do this w/ her short legs?

  • Yes! the first dog I saw that did this really well was a Jack Russell, so short legs can do it too! Good luck and if you do have a go let me know how you get on!

  • haha will do!!! i tried it today but i think i started her to high so im going to try 2marrow using your idea!!

  • yeah, make it really low to start, lower than what I showed on my video because your dog is smaller. keep me posted on progress!

  • Hello, Saw your video a couple of weeks ago and tried this with my dog. Worked very slick!

I took one step further and got her to target my hand with her back foot on verbal cue.

    Great trick!

  • Oh wow, I'm so pleased. I hope we get to see a video of that soon?

    :-)

  • 5 STARS:)! Holly is such a beautiful Border Collie and smart too:)! So, when are you making that handstanding video?

    Ashley & Kaine

  • Thank you! The handstand video is going to be the next training video Holly does so hold tight!

  • Great work....! Way to think creatively and work your way through this.

  • Great video. I have been working on back up onto something, but my dog (border collie) didn't seem to want to move her back feet. I'm going to get out my clicker and try again!

  • Hey, thanks for comment! Yeah I found it much easier to ask my dog to walk forward first and go wild with delight when she got in position and then she didnt have such a problem stepping back into position. Good luck and Id love to hear how it goes!

  • That is amazing!! You did such a great job with your adorable Border Collie!!! I can't wait to watch more!! :)

  • Thank you so much for your comment, Im going to be uploading more videos this week so stay tuned! Woofs and wags.

    Sian (Holly & Mabel)

    Saludos.

  • pukka video, can't wait for the handstand one ;-)

  • Wow :))

    Greetings from Spain.

  • Very nice. I look forward to more videos.

  • Thanks for your comment and subscribing, your dog is just the cutest! It was a toss up between a Collie and a Chihuahua when I got my puppy Mabel. I think they are the most lovely characterful little dogs and still hope to get one in the future.

  • Excellent training video!! You break it down so it is easy to understand. Thank you very much!

  • Thanks so much for your comment, Im really pleased you found it easy to follow because I was worried it might not be clear enough.

  • Very cool! Had to favorite it :) You make it seem so easy!

  • Wonderful thanks for a great training video.

  • Thank you for watching!

  • Great video! Isn't clicker training the best!? :)

  • Thanks :-) and oh yes! Clicker training is just wonderful!

  • oh my goodness! thanks so much! I have long to train Samson this trick but wasnt sure how.
