Charlie, I would love to hear you play this piece again. I will even dare you to make you do that. Go ahead! I think you will do just fine. After all, I don't give a damn is this is a traditional piece or communist piece or what, spring breeze is one of the very best piece of music ever composed on the qin. And absolutely more and more new piece that will reflect today's modern global culture will be born and I can't wait!
@KangSangCheung Well, I don't like this piece anymore really so I'm afraid you won't get your wish. I'm currently in a lul at the moment when it comes to qin playing as I have been busy with other things and if I needed to learn a major piece it would be one of the traditional ones; these modern ones are too hard to learn over a week when I could do so for a traditional one.
CharlieHuang you are awesome !! don't listen to these fools,to learn is to practice,to practice is to perfect,to perfect is to find that heightened level in oneself that very few achieve ,,,
I am very new to this instrument and I respect the long traditions and would very much like to learn how to play in the traditional style.
That said, as a musician I must note that without evolution, no form of music would ever have evolved. Traditional pieces and playing styles should be respected but at the same time one shouldn't get upset when an instrument is played in a new or different way. That is as much of an insult to the art of music as failing to acknowledge classical ways.
Strange that interpretation of the old repertoire is highly praised but any different on modern pieces are cosidered 'incorrect'... Does that mean that this piece composed by GY will not enter the same league as ancient pieces?
After pondering for several years since I played this, no, it won't.
I'm not saying that my playing here is *not* a failure. It most definately is a failure! But please, give me a break! This was several years ago when I was still in my experimental stages and I've grown up since then to get away from such a farce. It is here as a personal record. And one hardly thinks it gentlemanly or appropriate to scrutinise others when one has not been subjected to scrutiny of others themselves by showing there own capabilities as evidence of their critical abilities...
charlie, don't down yourself for playing this. Yahweh has gifted you and put a unique song inside of you that only you can play, and if it means that your interpretation of a song that someone else wrote is different then so be it. i think it's a beautiful piece and you shouldn't condemn yourself for not being able to play it the way the composer intended. he is, after all, just a man, of no more value than you or me.
To clear up the confusing terminology: the primary influence on this piece is Soviet-style romantic pseudo-folk music. Hence there is some genuine Uyghur inspiration (probably), but it's heavily deadened and slicked up by the Communist bloc conservatory ethos. There may even be...a little bit of qin in there.
I commented so because of the background of WHEN this piece was composed. Similar to "Fengshue Zhulu" and "Sanxia Chuange", this piece was a Communist era piece. Considering the Cultural Revolution and Chinese-Soviet relations then (and its musical interconnectedness during this era), I said this.
Also, the correlation is all the stronger when you look at the title of this piece. Traditional Chinese aesthetics would not look at a piece like this and say that this was a 'gentle spring breeze'.
that should be weird becouse russia came forth out of 2 viking post they used for their trading routs to the east. i remember 1 was called novgorod i forgot the other 1, so it would be more logical russian folk
(second part of the comment on jts1702a comment) music should ressemble the norseman folk music. the oldest guqins are 2500 years old, their was no russia when the first guqins where used. and if it does ressemble the russian folk ( wich i dont know), then it would be more correct to say russian folk has heavy traces of this guqin music in it
But the 'guqin aesthetic' is for pieces to be slow and restrained... Nevermind, as this piece has fallen out of my repertoire and I no longer play it now anyways...
Sodesune! Kakouii Kakouii, light and sweet piece, although i personally prefer a even much deeper and serious tone when it comes to either chinese Guzheng, Koto, or the Korean Kayaguem.

Believe me, it's not just interpretation, for example what the hell was 3:05?? Gong Yi has nothing to do with your inability to follow tablature.

That's sad .. Communist "folk" music may be some of the worst music I've ever laid ears on

After listening this thing a dozen times, and I _still_ think that this piece has a heavy trace of Russian folk music elements in it...

I have never seen a guqin so that was really interesting and also beautiful. Thank you!

watch out for pitch and it seems that you are utilizing much exaggerated slides...seems to counter the guqin aesthetic.

Not really, also, just a tip...your speed on this piece should be doubled.
