I saw Jackie take the first win for the car at Mt. Tremblant in 1971... all the headlines the next day said "McLaren's bubble burst!". Still have some pictures of it somewhere, including one with Denny Hulme's autograph on it.
I saw Jackie Stewart race that Lola back in the day at Road America. I remember standing on the outside of the approach to turn 14 and looking back at the bridge that spanned the track over Thunder Valley (since removed) and seeing him drift that thing sideways as he passed under it. Nothing but guts and talent.
It is very interesting to see how the rear wing location changed throughout the season, as well as trying the "cow catcher" front wing, to help with the handling and understeer problems.
"Wee" Jackie hated the Lola 260. He reckoned it handled really badly with incurable understeer. He won a bit in it though, and it was the most sucessful Lola in Can Am since the T70, so it can't have been that bad.
Thanks for posting. This takes me back in time to 1970 when I attended my first (and only) Can Am race. ...at Riverside Raceway. Hard to believe 40 years have passed.
saw these cars as a kid at lime rock loved them then and more now. thanks for posting.

Used to have the L&M Lola as a slot car when I was a kid.
And yet, I never took up smoking...
