  • the notes for this song are: la do re mi fa mi re si sol# la si do la la sol la si sol mi

la do re mi fa mi re si sol# la si do si la sol fa sol la

sol sol fa mi re si sol lá si do la la sol# la si sol mi

sol sol fa mi re si sol la si do si la sol fa# sol# la (WHERE : lá =A si=B do=C re=D mi=E fa=F and sol=G) since english speaking countries only use letters.

  • no offence but you held the notes a little to long I am not being stupid but I have the music and I play and the notes are way to long and the vibration is a bit exesive

  • thats seriously good 4 a guy who just start learning

  • awesum =)

  • stop that thing with your tongue you are doing while breathing in

that just costs alot of time

  • Greensleeves!!!

  • Dowwnload the audio from this song at thetunify doht cohm.

  • I'ts not a chrismas song. it's a love song played by henry VIII for Anne Boleyn.

  • very good song we arw lerning obout the tudors to

  • Omg your vibrato is so different . . Try to draw out the waving in the vibrato :)

  • Maravilhoso! Sempre desejei aprender a tocar flauta, e você toca muito bem. Cheguei a me emocionar!

  • Don't hold the flute parallel to the ground. Let it drop a bit to about 30-45 degrees below the parallel, to a comfortable position. (Watch any Galway or Rampal video). Also, don't try to insert vibrato on every note. Start from NO vibrato, then add little bits here and there on long notes.

  • you sir are amazing. i cant seem to find this song being played on the harpiscore though :(

  • people usualy play a "slow version" of greensleeves, the original is a litlte faster.

  • awesome

  • I have been playing the fute now for four years. I just started using verbrata last year, so this is tremendously impressive. All I have to say, is watch your breathing.

  • VICTIM

  • I play Greensleeves too!! But its on a "flûte à bec "( its in french ).It's beautiful ,but sorry my englisch is very bad ^^

  • this is a british song madoe for henry VIII

  • @tomosborne100 indeed

  • I love Greensleeves. It is soothing, romantic, and peaceful. It sounds better with the flute.

  • i love the way you enjoy and move swiftly with the songs tune> Great Job! 5/5

  • you tend to go flat at the end of the phrase, watch you breathing too.

  • Good for someone with that little experience. I've been playing since August 2009 and it is May 2010 when I'm typing this...9 months!!!

  • i played this song in my christmas concert and there weren't enough brass players in one section and it had the notes on the flute music as optional notes and i was the only flute allowed to play them it was amazing

  • we played this for our christmas concert this year it was really fun =)

there weren't enough brass in the brass section and i had the notes for it so i was the only flute playing that part it was hilarious xD

  • I am sorry, but I have to say you that you have to relax a bit when you are playing!!! Your arms and your vibrato is very strange!! But you play only 2 month!

  • breathing in phrases splits the song apart try to work on that and i agree on breath support although i play trombone and we don't use vibrato too much i can tell that it's from lack of breath support:)

  • Try not to move your arms so much.

  • im better

  • @NDDAROBOT Idiot Show off =P

  • I think your vibrato is, Strange, Try watching some videos by Nina Perlove, then try her technique It works well, She is the reason I play the way I do.

  • You're right. The vibrato is really bad. However, this was only after playing for 4 months with no prior experience. Check out my other videos and see the progression and improvement. Nina Perlove has been my biggest influence as well. She is very helpful and has even commented on on of my videos.

  • i have played for only 2 years and for 4 months that is really amazing

  • as a fellow flute player i do think you should relax on ur breathing a little but other than that i thought is was VERY beautiful

  • ERRRRR I think you need to relax and work on your breathing its not flowing its all stutered:)

  • i agree with houtblazer. you probablly need to relax more. i also think that your over emphasizing on the vibrato. and you need more air support, that way you'll be able to play longer with out having to take a breath in the middle of a phrase. over all you were pretty good. :3

  • Viejo marico! te falta el aire y suenas asquerosamente mal! limpia tu sonido! y deja de moverTE PARESES UNA NUTRIA AGONIZANDO..!! Saludos! xDD

  • you should relax more, let the air flow and see what happens

  • to be fair, it is over 500 years ago and chances are it could have been written by him just not credited, we'll just never know.

  • Awesome

  • I don't get why you would label the song Greensleeves, but then say it is a Christmas Charol even though the Christmas song that stole it has a different name..? Oh well.

Very nice playing though! I love the melody of Greensleeves, sounds good on many instruments.

  • Did Henry VIII write Greensleeves?

  • O.o where did you get that little tid bit?

I didn't know Henry VIII composed, frankly it sounds ridic but I really know nothing on the matter. IMA RESEARCH IT!

    THANKS BOBBY!

  • well he wasnt always a crazy fat man, he was very intelligent in his youth and loved music, im not sure if theres any proof that he wrote it but some think he did.

  • On some other vids about Greensleeves they say it's composed by him

  • yes it is, he wrote it about ann boyln

  • nice work.

  • this isn't a christmas carol

  • Technically it is an old English folk song. However, it is also a Christmas Carol known as "What Child is This" written by William C. Dix in 1865, to the tune of "Greensleeves" which was written in the 16th century.

  • can you send me the notes please !!!!!!! ? i am first chair in my band class and i want to learn how to play it :}

  • your ok

  • Beautiful sound! Nice KGB flute as well! How did you like your Bundy, I've heard mixed reviews?

  • Thank you! The Bundy was a nice starter flute. It was in very good condition but I only paid $25 for it on eBay and sold it for $175 locally. I also bought my KGB on eBay as well and it was another good value.

  • faster wold be nice

  • try not to take so man breaths your making it sound choppy you have beautiful tone

  • ive been playin the flute since 7th grade n im in my 10th grade year n now i play piccolo in highland springs high school marching battalion....check us out.....o ur doing great dont doubt urselve becuz i use to in 7th grade n i ended up gettin 1st chair in adv n intermdiate band wen i was still in beggining have patience

  • just a tip, try making your ombusher smaller, it will make the notes sound cleaner, my old music teacher never taught me that, my sis had to

  • actually that just makes your notes higher .

  • actually my music teacher told me the same

  • A song seemingly made for the flute. Sounds wonderful!

  • Continue ! You can do it ! :P

  • Epic flute playing

  • Im afelloww flautist and ive been playing for 3 years in my school band and private lessons. Good job considering you have only been playing for 4 months here are some tips:::

-When you do the wave for the long notes make the incraments longer.

    -Take shorter but shorter breaths

-to improve your breath length play a scale holding out each not for 2 mesures.

    Good luck!

  • Your fibrato is good, but I think that it's because of how many breaths you take and it gives you a wavy sound. All in all, you have a great sound quality. In order to save your breath you should do more breathing excerises and also don't move as much. It labors your breath making you have to breath more in oder to go onto the next phrase. This is still amazing considering how long you have been playing so keep up the good work. ^_~

  • your very good you must of improved a lot!

  • too much sight to.

  • Too much breathing...

  • You're right! My breathing was horrible then. I have improved.

  • Good sound for how long you've been playing. Not a fan of your style of vibrato but hey, everyone's different.

  • That style of vibrato is called "newbie." It leaves much to be desired and I have worked on it since this was made.

  • Keep going - you're amazing! I love the flute!

  • nice

  • kinda makes me wish I stuck with the flute

  • Thanks for the tips! My embouchure is more closed and relaxed now.

  • even i can play better

  • I would hope you can. You do know that this was after only playing for 4 months, right?

  • Right derick217 post a video of yourself playing

  • less tongue, i have been playing for 7 yrs and use less breath on top notes. Also don't pause for so long

  • You are quite right. I now use much less tongue. Thank you!

  • It is a christmas song it is called "what child is this" they usually play it at churches around christmas...

  • they changed the words but kept the melody & changed the name 2 "what child is this" my mom told me that...she also said that it used 2 b a mideval love song....or kinda like 1 the beginning said "alas, my love you do my wrong" & so thats what gave me the idea that it was a love song

  • i can play this easy and ive only been playing 2 years and im in school!

  • I now play for one and a half week on the flute, and now started to play this song. It´s not easy, so this is really exciting. And with the help of listening to you doing this, I soon will play it like you, too. Congratulations to your skill of playing this instrument.

  • You're absolutely right! This was last Winter. Check out my later vids and you'll see the improvement. I still have a long way to go, but I'm still practicing! Thanks!

  • ahh dude this is great a classic but u gotta work on your breathing and and on your TE's =D

  • where do i get oboe sheet music for this

  • this is beautiful!

  • good morning sir

i have been playing the flute for 2 months now, after watching your video i decided to look for the sheetmusic so I may play Greensleeves too

    sincerely

i wish you plenty happy moments

  • use not vibrato in this song

  • you need to really slow down on your vibrato...

  • how easy is flute to learn?

i have some musical knollege from playing bass. is the flute dificult to get to grips with?

  • Well I learned to play with online lessons. Most of it is having a desire to play the instrument. Then PRACTICE!

  • the beginning is hard but wen 1 playd 2 weeks i had a good sound. Try if you like it! ;-)

  • Amazing

  • You need to work on softening your vibrato. Right now, you are at the stage where it almost sounds like a repeated note, instead of vibrato. It is also going WAY to fast, the vibrato I mean. So far you are doing good.

  • lier its not a christmas charol i now how to play it on the gituar

    !

  • Why have you bought 3 flutes after just starting to play. I can see you are keen to learn but each different make of flute is different some feel heavier or have open holed keys. Try sticking to 1 flute while your learning and then going to a shop to try different makes out. In most music stores they will have a prep room where you can try out there whole range if you like and pick 1 that suits you.

  • I have gone through 3 flutes because I started out on a very cheap one then moved up to a better one and then moved to a solid silver open hole flute which I have kept and used for a number of months. I bought all 3 flutes on ebay to maximize my dollars spent. I hope that answers your questions.

  • It's really good for someone who's just started playing! But I think this song is a little too tough for a beginner to handle. Give it time and you'll probably play like a professional in no time because you obviously have the talent for it.

  • it was pretty good, but you took breaths at really weird parts in the song. try breathing exercises to get a bigger breath to hold out those notes, or try taking breaths at different parts in the song. and just so no one attacks me for saying that, i've been playing the piano for 6 years and the flute for a year.

  • You're absolute right in your observations. I have practiced and you can see my improvement if you view my latest videos from Lord of the Rings. Enjoy and thanks for the input!!

  • i like your version , nice and simple , thank you , great , sitting out here in the garden with the lappy listening to that on a nice small breeze under the parasol in the sun , perfecto mondo dude , peace

  • buena de lujo espectacular

  • I just love the song.

  • And ya, it is amazing, but I still think you overdid it on the vibrato XD.

  • You're right on the advice you gave. I have worked on and improved on those things. Check out my Lord of the Rings videos and you'll see the progress.

  • I got some advice:

All you got really work on is not TRYING to shake it so much, and also try to increase your max lung capacity... It helps alot. :)

But other than that, very nice for only playing the flute for a couple months or so. :P

  • Whoa, it sounds so much better than when I play it. ^_^ I love your musics, and I hope to listen to them more. *cough* I am got lazy so I quitted flute. xD But I really enjoyed it. I think you sounded really nice.

  • I really like the way you played this. The vibrato makes it sound much more...elegant and professional. I played this at our school's Solo and Ensemble Festival, and I -wish- I could have played it as well. And I've been playing for 3 years. >>'

  • Wow! You have excellent vibrato and note clearness. You are amazing. Keep it up and you'll become a master at flute. I just started at flute this year.

  • Thank you for your kind words!! You can follow my progress by listening to my other flute videos. Be encouraged. Enjoying the instrument and practicing make all the difference.

  • actually, it is sometimes better to stay with a beginners flute for more than a few years until you've mastered the correct learning skills.

By getting some fancy top of the charts flute, you may be letting yourself not have proper training.

  • I agree. That is why I began to take some lessons after a few months so I could correct any bad habits I may have learned early. Since I am a little older than most "newbies" I felt that I needed to be challenged with an open hole to try and develop some good habits as quickly as I could. Thank you so much for your comments! They are appreciated.

  • i applaude you for starting out on an open hole flute because people should really start out on those to develope good habits early on...

  • Thank you! I knew it would be more difficult just learning, but I wanted to learn on an open hole early rather than later.

  • I agree... good job manofword. Open whole flutes are fairly difficult to switch to after palying a closed whole one... flautists pick up the habit of putting their fingers on their keys weirdly that way.

  • A little shakey on some notes, a bit sharper and take deeper breaths so you don't need as much air.

Plus try to work on not gasping when taking a breath, you don't get all the air.

  • You are right. There is some shakiness on some notes. Your comments are well taken. I'm afraid that I'm a typical "newbie" when it comes to the flute. However, I have improved, somewhat since then. You can check out my "In Dreams" LOTR video. Still not perfect by any means, but progress is being made. Thanks again.

  • You sound professional already! The way u express your vibrato is very beautiful!

  • Thank you for your kind words! I have started taking lessons from a very accomplished teacher. I have improved and will try to upload another video soon.

  • Nice job for a beginner. I hope you improve.

  • Also, excellent choice on the head joint. Gemeinhardt, as far as I'm concerned, is one of the best flute brands out there. Then, if you combine it with a headjoint with a gold mouth plate, it makes the flute have a sweeter sound to it instead of shrill. Then add to that, open hole flute, and it is truly a beautiful instrument.

  • Very good. I've been playing the flute for about... 6 or 7 years, I'm only 16 right now. I heard it go a bit sharp on some notes, but very impressive. Sometimes you need to roll the flute in or out to make it a bit flatter or sharper.

  • Thanks for the input! I'll try harder to keep my notes in tune. I think I need to practice long tones to help with that. This flute is solid silver open hole with a gold lip plate and gold plating on the inside of the head joint. It is way above the Bundy I started with. Thanks again for the input. It is appreciated.

  • Thank you brother...Merry Christmas to you too!

  • very nice!!!

  • Thank you!!!
