I thought you wanted to cut the line? Way the hell off. Speed square is just a nuisance in that situation. If you can't freehand a 45 miter with a circular saw, go home and practice, or get a miter saw.

Very amateur. No safety glasses. Went right away into the piece of wood without even waiting for the saw to reach his full power. Didn't even secure the speed square and his saw was wabbling a little. Despite all that. didn't even adjust his blade so it would sightly stick out of the piece of wood and make a clean straight line.

once you know the measurement from saw base to blade, you can mark back from cutting line, saving you adjusting square to line blade with cutting mark.
