  • Mamma mia dieser Motor hält nicht lange.na ja die haben ja die Scheisse

  • Superb video, puts todays silenced rubbish well in the shade!

  • So there's taggers in Australia too. I think these spray can bandits should be shot on sight.

  • @crunsnuck For passenger trains I agree but if I owned freight wagons I would give them free access on the condition that they did not paint over company symbols or identifying numbers and information. That would save me a lot of maintenance paint :-) The problem is absolutely out of control in Greece and Italy.

  • @crunsnuck

They should ask for little help by North Korean Railway Police.

  • Awesome! :)

  • what is this?

  • @xxSN1P3Rxx100 Would you like to make your question a little more specific.

  • It's sick. How the is the hell the 2% grade possible?

  • @Krassnahll Put enough power on the front and anything within reason is possible.

  • @Krassnahll look up pulling keating summit in pennslyvania usa. its a 2.8 percent grade. i watched a full coal train pull it with 6 pulling and 3 pushing.

  • @Krassnahll There are 4.5% grades in Canada..

  • Looks like "tagging" is not unique to American railroads, unfortunately. I will say those diesels sounded great- I deeply miss 567s in full roar.

  • Great clip! Those classic diesels look fantastic, and are obviously being shown no mercy despite their OAP status.

  • Very impressive. It would be interesting to see how a couple of AD60 Garratts would have sounded going up there. I know they never did, but hey, one can dream.

  • great video , thumbs up!

  • I live about 5 mins away from there. I can usually hear them as they start off from the station. I sometimes drive up there and catch them as they go under the bridge at the top of the grade. The sound is fantastic and extremely loud as they slowly go under. Yes, the track diverges soon after the bridge, right to Geelong and left Melbourne.

  • They drive at the 'American' side of the rail :-)

  • @purpleravenstar No they don't. That is two unrelated single lines that separate about a mile from there and go in entirely different directions. We run on the left where there is one way traffic on double lines.

  • Thanks Mate ....Great video !! That lead unit sounds " like" it has a miss to it.....maybe ? Doesn't sound quite "right" to me...but the 2nd and trailing units sure sound good though. : )

  • Nice to see the modern / futuristic F3 / F7 style being refurbished and placed back into service. I think that style is the best looking diesel -- ever.

  • @AstronomerCyclist refurbished not, these old girls are almost original. The only modern fittings are better seating, soundproofing and air conditioners. Most of the old stuff is owned by preservation groups and on hire to smaller operators.

  • I like the guy walking the dog at around 1:05, the dog obviously barking like crazy at the train.

  • Question, I've read the term "preserved", like in rail museum pieces, or reserve fleet? Reminds me of a 105' tug I worked on, 2 EMD 12 cylinder 645E2,s up and running pushing a loaded barge, almost to 900 RPM, racked out against the stop. We usually got 30,000 hours + between overhauls. Darn nice engines and a dream to work on.

  • I love the GM chatter they make.

  • I did not realize that was the gradient. I have a book that lists the power output of these EMD (Clyde, I believe units). Nonetheless, thank you for posting this great video. I actually learned about these units in "the Pictorial Encyclopedia of Railways" by C. Hamilton Ellis. It was published and purchased some forty years ago. Still, it is a handy, if dated reference.

  • WOW! What is the gradient here? I seem to recall these were wide gauge locomotives, were any ever converted to standard gauge?

  • @manthony1956 I'll forgive you for not noticing the title of the video...it's 1 in 52 to be precise. I think that every class of diesel electric that the VR had have now been on standard gauge at some time or another.

  • Very nice video !

  • Sweet sound my friend, God bless!

  • I see Australia also owns Safetran signals.Nice shot.

  • I guess you can call that a "FULL PULL" :D.....

......hehe it would suck to run dry on diesel at the top whit no brakes! :)

  • This is more like it - no bell, no horn blowing, just the diesels vs grade.

  • @SuuriGuru I dread that we ever start using those utterly ridiculous bells outside of low speed maintenance facilities.

  • Wow man, I bet those units were operating well into the red on the loadmeter!

  • @75Bird455 Perhaps on the two big ones but it then goes on a time factor. The further in the red the less time permitted.

  • I think i can i think i can says thomas the tirain

  • wow.... good capture! What camera system is this?

  • @LanceCampeau This was shot some time back with an older Sony DCR-TRV50E standard definition unit. I have since changed to a Sony HVR Z5P.

  • Can it go any slower? Lol, I don't think those Australian peeps have ever heard of a diesel particulate filter, lmao :)

  • Mate you have goto admit if only 6 poeople didn't like this after 105 000 viewings it must be alright. I just tought my son (3.5 years) how to count to 30 watching this!

Keep up the good work Trainspotters!

  • very good camera work, respect :)

  • Excellent video and sound quality. Makes me wish I could see four EMD GP9s or GP7s working up grade. Four SD40-2s in run 8 is still nice though.

Is there any EMD power in Australia that is the equivalent to the SD40-2?

  • @SD457500 The Victoria Railways C class would be the one most fitting the description. 10 were built and all are still running. C501 is in the original livery and currently on hire to the same mob that feature in this video.....also the same colours.

  • @SD457500 Yes, The QR National ( ex Westrail ) L Class Locomotives

Are still in Operation in Wesetrn Australia, 40 odd years after they entered

Service in 1967 for the then WAGR. ( West Australian Government Railways ).

    Railwayman01

  • el zorro! how can you do this? any way I loved it but hated how they got the train up!

you see that is way to slow they may stop and go down just like msts!

  • This is the perfect acoustic orgasm, it even beats the Tailem grainy chase, another Aussie video with these old beauty's hard at work.

The sound remembers me the chase of iron ore trains with classes 52 and 53 in Belgium, for witch the class B was the pattern.

  • woow the camerazoom

  • @TheLeafun That's the old camera, my new one is better.

  • @Rocketboy1950... No, it was very good. I just think what would happen if I use HD cameras. Good job :)

  • Дура-лошадь дизель!!!!!

  • respect from romania

  • in croatia we had the 2061 series loco, which was based on a G16 loco with 567 prime mover and 1800 hp. excellent locos, 40 years they served us well. unfortunately, we don't have any locos of that series in active duty now :-( but they can still be seen in Serbia and BiH where they do most of the work :-)

  • Give me a ticket to an aeroplane

Ain't got time to take a fast train

    :-)

  • an e unit with cabs at both ends....ive never seen that.....cool...

  • @mercenary454 Its more of an F unit based on an SD7 I believe.

  • what the hell is the damn thing carrying.. must have taken a lot of patience

must be crazy drivers too! lol

  • @19021986a It's a grain train and not that many years back they always gave us a full load and that's how fast we went over the steep grades.

  • @Rocketboy1950 thanx dude.. i thought was coal or something else..gr8 video

  • what the hell is the damn thing carrying.. must have taken a lot of patience

  • Superbe footage! Wich is the track gauge in that area?...Irish or standard gauge?...These 3 locos have each EMD V two stroke engines? Greetings from an EMD engines fan from Romania!

  • @emdiesel63 "Irish" 5'3"

  • locomotives which have considerable difficulty. that must have been a heavy load. What's in the train? very sorry of that graffiti. they are beautiful cars. (locomotives indeed) I say graffiti is messy!

  • i love the rumbling noise the cars make

  • great video with fantastic sound!

    Greetings from Germany:)

  • Ah Australian EMD's...love tht sound..the first unit reminds me of my F24C..which is based off of the Class A... except my (American Version) of the Class A has only one cab..i hope to buy or build a Class A soon... great vid!!!

  • @TheCleaner001 Thanks for the comment. I will reserve my opinion on the maintenance regime......we have a few failures with these very old girls.

  • oki de var der ikke så hurtige, kører 80 km i timen de er der pænt fart

  • whate the how fast due that train run in this video fore that train run really slow

  • @svendsen20 Det kommer op en meget stejl bakke. I omkring en mere kilometer det vil være i stand til at køre med 80 kilometer i timen

  • Awesome stuff mate, as always!

  • @MickFix And right on your back door step :-)

  • @Rocketboy1950 Great to see some good graffiti on these trains!

  • @MK360VAL No such thing as "good graffiti" -- those cars look like hell.

  • @MK360VAL That is not graffiti, it's mostly childs scribble. Good graffiti conveys some meaning.

Pounds to pence the bozo's who tagged these wagons are mostly long term no hopers.

  • Интересно, какой ток нагрузки главного генератора на этих тепловозах?

  • @TheWolf1610 ведущих единицы составляет 2500 AMPS

  • Hello,

Pls , GPS data ? Google Earth ?

    Bengos from Belgium

  • I like the Erie-inspired paint scheme.

  • Nice! :)

  • Beautiful, well-maintained roadbed, but it appears as if that train is seriously underpowered and in danger of stalling or burning it's traction motors running full out for that long. By the way, I'm assigned as engineer on an FP-7 with a 567b to work all-day tommorrow.

  • @WBDE Now there's a coincidence because I am also working on the ML2 in this clip tomorrow evening. Happily with just four passenger cars. The roadbed in the foreground is for 100mph passenger trains. The freight is on a poorly maintained 50mph freight line. The railway here always flogged everything and we frequently ran over the ruling grades at about 10-14 mph. This hill is just a few miles long and then it gets a down hill run for about 50.

  • @Rocketboy1950 I am not sure if your ML2 in the video is akin to an F9 with a single 16-cylinder 567 engine or an E9 with two 12-cylinder 567 engines. It appears to be the latter rather than the former. The FP-7 I operated yesterday, in a driving snowstore with an old 24RL brake system, has the 16-cylinder engine. In any event, I can just envision seeing your ammeter all the way over at maximum.

  • @WBDE I think it was based on the SD7. We never used the 24RL brake here. We mostly had the A7EL and then went to the 26L. Of course the newer locos now have the modern computer based equipment but none that I get on do.

  • Here in the US, engine with 567s are rare, they're either in museums or working for a short line. Never thought i'd hear 567 hard at work in notch 8 in HD sound. Favorited right away! Great vid!!!!!

  • @TrainTrackTrav We have a pile of the old girls working down here. CFCL have quite a few on the books here.

  • That is the best diesel engine video I´ve seen so far. And I´ve seen a lot of railway videos. What a sound. Beautiful classic engines. Nice camera work.

    Thumbs up! :)

  • @megatwingo Thanks, too bad it was before I got my nice new HD unit.

  • Music to my ears although I guess the appeal is less when you have to listen to it for hours over your shoulder.

  • Very nice video and sound :o)

  • Very nice train. That it transports?

  • @adry440 Grain :- wheat/barley/oats/sorghum whatever is being moved at the time.

  • Take a look at my production. You can find the trains, the Finnish army, the beautiful scenery of Finland, folk music, "Sedov" sailing, martial arts, sports, art exhibitions, animations, a lot of Super 8 films and others interesting!

  • Excellent video

seem to do much yet, because it seemed that hard to walk?

as hate graffiti, is a global evil

    greeting

    Gustavo

  • Exceptional camera work. Great video

  • Wow ..two more GJF's attached and a stall and divide might have been imminent ..do they still do those..?

    jp.

  • @johnpro2 No longer permitted I'm afraid.

  • wow, you could hear those long before you can see them. nothing like hearing a 567 or a 645 in run 8!!

  • Wow, great!

  • they look close to stalling when they are farther away lol

  • Now this is what you call TRAIN STRAIN! Beautiful sound as well as country wherever it is. :-)

  • Reminds me of the days of Arrarat with big C's blasting over the hill and the lights of an arriving jet shining down the highway. Was always good to hang around the bridge and take a peek at the shunting in what was a very busy yard.

  • Wow... That's a really nice video!!! I like it :)

  • Well Rocketboy, you should have kept that rolling right to the end, even way after that train had gone. Absolutely fantastic!! brings me goosebumps, reminds me of my younger days listening to the T's during the night passing through Kyabram with GH and GY's in tow on a crisp still night 5min even after the train had gone "Oh what memories"

  • Damn Right!!!! I live in Milwaukee and Milwaukee Road's old mainline to Chicago is in my backyard which is uphill for a few miles. and when CP runs a couple SOO SD40's at notch 8 with a full load, you can hear it and feel it for miles!!!!!! I know it's not the same as a 567 but kinda close.

  • Scotty i need more power! i cant do it captan i dont think i have the power! hahahaha

need some Turbocharged V16s helpin these old girls out?

  • great video......hard drag .....

  • orsome footage with the locos at full power. Well done Rocketboy. Wish i was there to see and hear the sound of the locos working hard.

  • Powerful, loud, smoky... me like ;)

  • Awesome video mate well done!!!!!

What a poor "after-life" B74 has, the poor old thing got flogged through it's previous life, we flogged it to death at ATN on heavy grain trains and now we are doing the same thing at El Zorro, just goes to show how good the "old school" stuff is.......long live the mighty EMD's!!!!!!!!!!!!!..................................Cheers.

  • 2% grade, eh? Just like the eastern slope of Sand Patch or 17 Mile Grade back in the day...

  • Oddly enough a bit further down the line we also have 17 miles of mostly 1 in 48....a tad over 2%. Used to be good fun without a dynamic brake and we did not use retainers in Victoria.

  • What a cracking sound!!

The first non-British diesel I've found on the internet that makes a descent noise in my opinion.

    Are these things "preserved"?

  • They are "preserved" and do get hired out to train operators. We have been privatised a la the UK and some companies have power stored whilst others struggle to find enough. Nothing quite like the sound of an old EMD hard at it.

  • @7822welshsteam Non turbo EMD's are prety cool but youve not heard EMD SD40-2's yet then? Il send you 2 to try.

  • @formidable38 I certainly have heard SD40's. We have them in the Pilbara on iron ore trains. We also have an EMD GT26C down here which I understand is almost identical mechanically.

  • What a cracking sound!!

I have to admit I'v been searching the web for a non-British diesel that (in my opinion) makes a descent noise and I have to say this is the first time I've been really impressed!

  • And a shame to see the graffiti punks are down there too, spreading like cancer around the world.

    Still Five Stars!

  • For a minute I thought it was NY-100 climbing Gulf Summit Hill.....the Erie still lives down under!

  • more smoke than a bushfire! nah just kiddin.

    nice Vid Rod man

  • I have always enjoyed yur work for the brilliant camera work, thank you for sharing this with us.

The track to the left seems a lot older suffering from 'wear and tear' yet the track to the rigjt seems newer.

Is this normal is Australia not to renew both tracks whilst they have possession?

  • Firstly thanks. Tthese are really two separate tracks in that the older one is freight only and low speed whilst the other is a high speed almost entirely passenger traffic.

  • Cool thank you, loved the locos and the close up on the fuel point.

  • Awesome!!!!

  • i WILL HAVE TO PAY MORE ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU TOLD ME IN THE PAST ABOUT VIDEO SETUP. THATS SOME NICE QUALITY VIDEO WELL DONE.

  • Thanks can't wait to get my new camera out working.

  • Man, thank you, thank you! This was great! It takes me back to when i was a kid in Vancouver BC. Late at night in bed every so often i could hear this sound as units of CN to the north of me, and GN to the east of me would pull hard leaving town. Great job filming this for us all! Thanks, Kev from Canada.

  • You're welcome and thanks for watching.

  • Chug, Chug, Chug there goes the ozone lol - amazing power required to pull that load tho!

  • Blue & Gold of old!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wish I coul have been there!!!!!!!

I've just up loaded my vid of an A class departing Werribee with a down Geelong pass. Love your videos man, been a fan for months.

  • Your A class video aint half bad :-)

  • awesome vid! Sure love the covered waggons!

  • What are those grain cars, 80 or 100 tons a piece?? Good bit of filming with great sound.

  • Thanks, these are old cars and 76 tons loaded.

  • Thanks for the info, thats mightily impressive work for that trailing load on a 2% grade with old power like these.

  • thank u some fine video there

  • how do u drive all 3 at the same time

  • Simple control cables that plug in to each unit.

  • Rocketboy1950 you should make a DVD and include some of your best videos that have shot even though there all great

  • Another "THANKS" shout-out from Canada!!! That was fantastic! I have to listen to that at home with the speakers cranked!

  • Don't crank em up too much, there was a howling wind and even with a good microphone and a wind cover you will start to hear it at higher volumes.

  • good idea with the dual cameras - top stuff!

  • very nice !

  • Superb vid. Will save that one for my next DVD burn.

  • i wish i could go for a drive in one it would be so cool

  • Wow, this has got to be one of the best railroad videos around. Excellent camerawork, and those are some of the best EMD sounds I've ever heard. Wonderful footage!

  • I could listen to that thrash all day! Who opperates that train service?

  • The operator is ( really ) El Zorro Transport. The locomotives are hired from a heritage group. I drive for them on a casual basis.

  • Superb video, what a great sound those loco's make.

  • This is a corker of a video Rod. Possibly your best yet. Bravo!

  • Just dumb luck. It pissed down something shocking all the way there from Melbourne. It was nice having a direct phone link to the crew so I would at least be in the right place at the right time. Even then I took the precaution of running two cameras.

  • working hard

  • Thank You From Canada!!! A+A+ video.

the smoke is just clearing thru my keyboard..i wonder what the ampere gauge was reading inside the cab..i bet we couldnt guess the Number?? WOW

  • Excellent diesel power! 5*

  • ooh man!! music to my ears! awesome job!! 5***** & a favorite

  • Great video! What a sound! 5* & fav's!

    Rich

  • Love the sound. The paint scheme on the lead and trailing units could easily be mistaken for the old Erie here in the States.

  • Very Good!

  • Wonder how many passes got knocked?

  • That's the Geelong line so none

  • thats true until it got past North Geelong..

  • Awesome video, they sound great. Though it can't be doing their engines very good.

  • The engines are OK but it looked a little slow for the traction motors on the two big ones.

  • I remember them well. On Saturday arvos when I was playing cricket at Russell Square Ballarat East, the umps used to stop the game while a brace of 567s roared up the hill. Noel in Perth.

  • Great video Rod

    Very nice diesel thrash...5*...Roger

  • the power of man..... looks like bumbelbee{transformer} with lipstick

  • Wow!!!!!!

  • Fantastic !!!
