  • Wow, so all along I've been getting comments on this video I posted 3 years ago and not once did I get an email letting me know, until @plehdehgame's last comment... weird. Anyhow, for anyone that watches this more recently, I upgraded to a 650 about a year later and I just sold that bike a few months ago. Now I'm looking for an old late '70s CBR... all of a sudden I'm really digging the cafe racer look. Anyone got any hot tips for finding such a bike, besides trolling craigslist every day?

  • I'm a beginner and I mean I have no 2 wheel experience at all and I was deciding between 2 bikes as my first. The Ninja 250r and the 500r (both used). I like the new look of the 250 but i'm just worried that if i buy the 250, i'll get bored of riding it and would want to upgrade to a 600 in 6 months. But at the same time the 500 provides more power while it still being a beginners bike and not a supersports bike. So will the 500 keep me smiling longer than the 250? Or is it the same feel?

  • @plehdehgame I can't really give you a direct comparison between a 250 or 500 (having never been on a 250), but I can tell you my experience. I hung on to the 500 for about a year, and then I was ready to upgrade to the 650 (which I just sold a couple months ago). I'm afraid with a 250 you'll be itching to upgrade a lot quicker. My recommendation would be the 500, it really is a great beginner bike.

  • @plehdehgame A friend of mine finally learned to ride after I insulted and picked on him for 4 years for not riding. He had never ridden a 2 wheel motorcycle before in his life. After starting out on a Suzuki Boulevard C50T he's now on a CBR1000F which he took his road test on in the snow and passed.

  • Holy shit, that thing is sparkling!

  • Hey dude. I'm prior military and still live out here and ride almost every day. Shoot me a message if you ever wanna head up to Cloudcroft.

  • how are those things on the highway?

  • awsome vid dude! i have a 600 gpz project im workinig on with my dad. beautiful bike though! keep it rubber side down ;)

  • Please feed that kitten :))))

  • i have a 91 ex500 and i love the bike, sounds great a pulls hard and has never let me down, only thing i dont like is that it dosent have a gas gauge. heh

  • Hmmm....EX500...isn't that a girls bike?

  • ninja 500 has about 60 horsepower. that's alot. I weigh 220lb, and have no problems going on the expressway. The bike is faster that most cars and has a narrow design so you can lane split. If want a commuting bike, this is it. It's powerful and narrow so you can lane split. I can't stress this enough, narrowness is very important.

  • Should you really follow that break in procedure?

  • This looks exactly like my husbands bike what year is it 88- 89?

  • beautiful bike

  • I am thinking about buying my first bike..I am going to a weekend class to get my permit bla,bla,bla.. I was wondering should I get a 250 or 500? i think 250 might be too little ( in power i mean... I am 5'7 140lb by the way) but 500 seems to have the power i am looking for ( but i really don't know). However what you guys think? should I go 250 r is it 500 ok for 1st time? Thanks!

  • sweet bike man, brand new and looking good. :)

  • what year bike?

  • thats a new one..??

the styling looks like a gpz

  • tellhim not to take it past 4000 rpm he will be fine

  • Looks very shiny all new and everything. I just uploaded a video of my 1995 ninja, not as shiny lol but still nice. I want to get vlogs for it going next year. Check it out in my profile

  • Are those kittens meowing in the background?

  • would a 2004 ninja 500r be a good starter bike or should i try something else?

  • My first bike was a Ninja 250 =P. looks exactually the same as the 500. but mine was black =).

  • good choice start off with the right bike :)

  • dang shiny

  • does the exhaust sound beefy and tuff ?

  • oh theres a sticker, hmm... thought it was just confetti!! I drove it home @ 70mph 1st day, 6000miles later still runs great!

  • how fast does four or six thousand rpms get u on your bike?

  • In 6th gear 4k was about 40mph and 6k was about 65-70 mph, if I remember correctly.

  • i just got this bike myself, i followed thebreak in, 4000 6th gear is 50, 6000 is 75.... hence if you go through every gear at 2grand itll be 25 for a top speed,

  • Do you think I should go with the 500 for my first bike? I'm 17 but I've been ridding since I can remember. I figure I should buy one now while I have the money and not a couple of years down the road when I wouldn't.

  • how fast does the 500 go? i want to get a 250 for my girlfriend, but she needs something she can do atlease highway speed, i dont know anyone with a ninja 500 or 250

  • on my ninja 500 in 1st gear at 6k its 25mph and 2ed 6k 35mph and 3erd 6k 45mph and it goes 10mph up at each 6k mark in the gear so at six gear at 6k its 75mph. But I can get it to 70mph in 2ed gear and in 3erd at 90mph and in 4th and up its top speed

  • Sweet bike, looks very clean and nice. Follow the break in procedures and then racer her through the gears! The 500r was my first bike and now look at me a couple years later. check my videos... shiny side up!

    LS

  • nice bike, start it up for us. :D

  • My brother wants to buy a hayabusa for his first bike.

  • Awesome, you should have him put you on his will, because u wont have a brother for very long. Lucky you.

  • well you wont have a brother much longer then.

  • your moron is going to get killed if he does

  • LOOOOOOOOL!

  • Tell him thats a great idea, and he is doing a good job of starting slow!!!!

  • Hayabusas own, they put out like 200hp and weigh like 200kgs right? 1kg per horsepower.

  • Excellent idea. A 600cc sportbike is too much for beginners, so let's go right to a 1300cc superbike.

  • Make sure he legalizes a will before he gets it.

  • That would be a very bad idea. lol

  • Tell your brother he is a pussy he needs to get a turbo busa. he can either go big or go home

  • and I thought 500 was big for starters

  • a friend of mine bought a busa for his first bike, it really depends on the rider, he's had the bike for just over two years now,and hasn't dumped it or damaged it so far =] just have to be a responsible driver as any bike won't hesitate seriously hurt or even kill you

  • @inextrikable how old was your friend though.

  • my friend got a busa as his first bike, he's done well since the two years he's owned it, not dropped or dumped once, it really does depend on the rider and how responsible they are, afterall ,.. any bike wont hesitate to seriously injur or kill you.. i started off on an old gixxer 750... moved up to a blackbird since =]

  • it must be something he ate

  • Tell your brother he will regret it. Ninja conquers all !!

  • He´s going to destroy the bike if doesn´t have care, it´s too heavy and powerful to learn man.

  • Is he a kamikaze or something?

  • EX 500 was my favorite bike ever. Always have regretted selling it. Don't ever get rid of it, it's a solid bike and a lot of fun. That engine will never give you trouble.

  • just out of curiousity...why did you sell it?

  • I have been reading Leanings by Peter Egan. He started out very small and worked his way up. I have learned that a 500 used to be pretty far up there and a 650 was once considered HUGE! I personally consider a 1000cc big enough. And I am an American.

Peter once had a Honda CB160 which I would like to ride, as well as a 305 Dream. As an American I often read about big bikes and our marketing has almost made me forget that the motorcycle I am looking for should be well balanced and agile!

  • I plan on getting a 500 as well

  • Anyone who would suggest anything more than a two cylinder like the Ninja 250/500/650r are clearly squids. These are the guys who do wheelies at 120mph on the freeway and then hit a suspension coil or an exhaust that fell off a car with no helmet and kill themselves. You chose a good beginner bike and for that you will ride long enough to become a good rider =)

  • haha those are the best bikes ever made. i had a 500, now have a 250, and might get a 650R but I don't see the need to right now I like the 250 for commuting. Glad to hear there are other riders out there with good heads

  • from a 500 to a 250????

  • nice bike, im actually about to buy the same one

  • Lemme know how you like it :)

  • I'm confused, last time I checked 12.8 1/4 mile was a decently quick run. People in cars spend thousands to run that, the 500r can outrun pretty much any stock car on the road and a lot of modified.

Just don't get why people call it "slow", or are you comparing strictly to other bikes?

  • Apples to apples I suppose.

  • nice little bike, the engine is almost bullet proof, have fun, and ride safe, i recommend getting a louder exhaust...not because it sounds better, but so people know you are there, ive been run off the road too many times on my car...dont even want to think about it when im riding my bike...

  • Getting a liter bike for your first motorcycle is asking for trouble. Even a 600cc race bike isn't recommended by a lot of pros. Start small, start smart, and work your way up.

  • You guys always remember its not about the ride...its all about the rider

  • I just got a ninja 636 brannew this year, I've gotta say two wheels is a ton of fun no matter what you're on, you might outgrow that bike if you wanna tracvk it..but you dont have to listen to buddy and get a R1..its actually a salesmans code of ethics to not sell first time riders 1000 CC sport bikes..my 636 is enough for a first time bike..congrats dude

  • Apperently it's about barely going the speed limit.

  • You are correct sir.

  • If you are going to buy a bike why would you buy a 500? Rhuac said his is broke in now and he can take it up to 6000 rpms which will allow him to do the speed limit anywhere in TX. Get a real bike, YZF R-1, you can do 60 mph in 1st gear and not break 6000 rpms.

  • Because your first bike isn't about going as fast as you can?

  • What up with you speed freaks and torque. Dont ya know some people just want a small bike to save gas or cant afford a r1000.

  • I dig the video..good and simple, I hope that the idea is to keep a kind of video journal of your riding experience. I wish now that I would've done the same thing with my first bike!..

  • Heh ride safe I do indeed. Just today I almost got into my first accident because some jerk didn't notice me riding right next to him.

  • I own the same bike exact bike, color and all. The exaust makes some sound but is quiet when warm and low rpms, so if you creep up on a car, it might not know you're there.

  • you can beep the horn

  • is that bike worth getting cause i was thinking about gettin that same one but in blue, also how much did yours cost, because the one iam gettin costs 4,000 new.

  • Mmm, love the colour. I can't say I dig the outdated headlight and turn signals on the 500R, but for all I know that's just me.

  • That RPM break in is full of it.

  • Yeah that's what Mordeth13 was telling me heh. Ah well I broke 500 miles yesterday and I can technically take it to 6k which means I can do the speed limit anywhere in Texas... so I'm happy.

  • Yep, up to 410 when I pulled in this evening.

  • Very nicely... I'm up to about 375 miles. I just came in to take a break from riding today and hopefully I'll get it up to 400 miles before I'm done today. I think once I get it up to 500 or so I might try to rig something up in my helmet. Maybe show a bit of Austin.

  • Just glad you got a bike lol
