The vast majority of what you do is supposed to be in karate. Shotokan lost a lot of this when it became sport oriented. Old school shorin ryu still has it.

I wouldn't say you're borrowing from other styles. Instead, it's more like you're finding what was lost and bringing it back.

@swdw973 Hi and thanks for you comment,.. I agree with you, karate has everything in it already like throws, low kicks, hooks etc, it is just that in mordern karate lot of these (often effective) techniques are practised too seldom in my view..my own basis is actually Shorin Ryu, but are teaching Shotokan now in Tiger Karate Club (but I also incorporate techniques more practised in other styles of Karate etc)
