I wouldn't want an iphone if it was given to me for nothing! The iphone is purely app based.. The HTC (any after the iphone), offers an better all round user friendly, and satisfying experience. Do not get fooled by the iphones marketing strategy - apple have the best advertisers in the world!! They even admitted that anything you want.... there's an app for that!!!! With HTC, you don't need an app.... it's right there already! iphones are for ponces, show-offs and no brainers.

I have an HTC Hero and I love it but the Iphone is actually much better. The HTC is just a phone for people that want a smart phone, but don't have enough money for an Iphone. At least, thats what I think.

the hero is a really good phone i had one before i moved on to the i phone.. i feel the i phone touch screen is better and the whole i pod intergration is better too but i think android has a bright future both phones are amazing but i phone can do a few things hero cant but saying that i love the trackball on the hero its real usefull

@mikesomething I gotta agree with @JetKobayashiZala since the point of the phone is to COMMUNICATE. Apps are secondary. The reviewer made a point to show that the HTC Hero had way more to offer in terms of usability in those aspects. The iphone looks like it's more for the apps. For those of us who want something that covers ALL the bases then it seems like the HTC Hero fits that bill. Obviously, it's not just about the apps for most people, just people like you...who want a handheld compy.
@Pumpkinspice13 the main thing on a SMART-phone is: Apps+internet in my opinion...if you want your phone to communicate, buy an old Nokia or somethin.
I have the hero and my mate has an iPhone, I much prefer the hero, I know it's features run a little slower but I think it has better features, also it may just be because I'm more used to the hero having one myself.
i have recently purchased an american version of the HTC Hero and HTC now functions on a 4G network. Also the android market has greatly expanded, however, is still not as large as the apple app store... I think you should really look into a dogfight between the american HTC Hero and the iPhone.
iPhone 3GS may be more money, but tbh, you get what you pay for. It's a iPhone! Nothing can compare to it! I still think the HTC hero is great though. My friend has one and she loves hers. Always on it :L It depends what you want the phone for really. iPhone is more for apps and gaming :)

@jnussbau iPhone has always had a brighter display just because apple doesn't let you set your back light down low, the settings minimum isn't really low. The Hero probably had its back light set somewhat low. But in the end both phones would let you get to a comfortable setting without maxing out your setting which is essentially all that matters.

The Hero does look great. Telus Canada has just got them ( 1 yr late - lame). I would love to get a N1 before they go to stores but we'll see. I would consider a Hero now but I'm only 1 yr in the last damn 3 yr contract I'll ever sign. I hate Apple, the iPhone looks dated/boring and the next one looks just the same. iPhone 3GS all the way. The iPhone is just more simpler and I love there apps. The Hero is good don't get me wrong but Im just more an iPhone fan. And also in june or july there will be 4G download for the 3GS which will just make the iPhone faster and allow you to run multiple apps. Great review Noah

i have an iphone 3G and i love it. i woudnt change it for the world. the touch screen is so smooth and responsive to your finger you can type really fast with the keyboard. you can have hours of fun and entertainment with the huge app store. evrything on the iphone seems be more smoother and faster and much better quality and for me the iphone took the biggest and best step in the phone market in terms of technoligy. amazing!!
The big difference is that many phones are trying to really zoom in and out with a realtime transition. The iphone uses smart optical tricks, to give you the idea of speed, which I do like, because it looks a little laggy and slow on the Hero.

Htc is more for people that can't go 5 minutes without knowing if there's a new comment on their latest flirtbook photo or how many "friends" they have now or the latest tweet from whoever bothers to tell the world that they just took a dump and are now watching TV. iPhone is faster smoother and way easier to use more intuitive and less fussy. Iphone will be a winner for two very important reasons. 1.) Its an ipod! and mp3 quality on other phones doesnt even live up to iphones ablility. 2.) Iphone offers more fun apps that target the younger crowds which double their sales
Uhm... Every phone is a music player, and your obviously not very smart if you think the iphone has like an "ability" to play songs better than others, because the hero is clearly better. Second, im sorry, but considering the fact that more than half android apps are free, that targets a younger crowd more than a bunch of paid stuff.

its amazing that iphone is now on OS 3.1ish? and the hero is running cupcake 1.5 hopefully soon 2.0 and its functionality over the iphone is phenomenal and not to mention the performance for it only being a 528mhz processor to the iphones 600mhz....it may be a bit laggy but its up and coming for great improvements
theres no native facebook app that will give you notifications on the phone yet but if you sync your contacts to your facebook, itll tell you next to the contacts in a little green bubble about how many updates there are, what i do is just bookmark facebook and use the widget to check it whenever i want, cuz the mobile website shows you the updates too. i think the hero is the best phone next to the nexus one, if only it wasnt for tmobile and was sprint compatible! but the hero is still amazing!
@razeqalla their are 3 facebook apps im not sure if their run on hero as i dotn have one yet but on my archos that barly runs any apps the officail app and one of the unoffical ones give notifications and have widgets and a third app called bloo witch has an amazing interface
Install bloo for android from the market. Run the app in the background and it will send you notifications as long as there is 3g or wifi connectivity. You could also check status updates by checking your contacts list , if you have already linked them to your facebook profiles
I really think the only advantage the iPhone has is the video card. It simply uses a faster GPU so anything graphical gets refreshed more times per second, so it looks smoother and allows for things like scrolling through a web page or zooming in real-time instead of having it refresh once you stop touching the screen.

yeah iphone rocks when it comes to browsing. apple is good with UI, it's real smooth and eye-candy there. i support jobs saying flash is evil, with HTML5 it needs to die really.
we can call apple an evil empire, but with android phones synchronizing contacts/calendars to google? even bloody evil apple doesn't do that.
i don;t do that much twitting/chatting/etc with my friends, we're old-style guys who talk more face2face, so iphone is good enough :-)

HD does look awesome and it does matter, but only when you trans-code the video with the appropriate settings, otherwise, it just looks worse than standard def.

The Hero does look great. Telus Canada has just got them ( 1 yr late - lame). I would love to get a N1 before they go to stores but we'll see. I would consider a Hero now but I'm only 1 yr in the last damn 3 yr contract I'll ever sign. I hate Apple, the iPhone looks dated/boring and the next one looks just the same. At least with Android, besides being better itself, it comes in many shapes, sizes and experiences. Motoblur/Sense/Stock. And it's customizable. [iPhone fanboy wrote] "It just works"

Very informative. Thanks for that. It seems that the htc came very close to the iphone in its initial stages when the iphone had already gone through a series of changes and upgrades. Can you do a new comparison now that sprint has the htc hero, htc has 3g and we now have thousands of apps on the android market?

iPhone 3GS all the way. The iPhone is just more simpler and I love there apps. The Hero is good don't get me wrong but Im just more an iPhone fan. And also in june or july there will be 4G download for the 3GS which will just make the iPhone faster and allow you to run multiple apps. Great review Noah

i have an iphone 3G and i love it. i woudnt change it for the world. the touch screen is so smooth and responsive to your finger you can type really fast with the keyboard. you can have hours of fun and entertainment with the huge app store. evrything on the iphone seems be more smoother and faster and much better quality and for me the iphone took the biggest and best step in the phone market in terms of technoligy. amazing!!

The big difference is that many phones are trying to really zoom in and out with a realtime transition. The iphone uses smart optical tricks, to give you the idea of speed, which I do like, because it looks a little laggy and slow on the Hero.

I think in the App-Store there are much too many apps, when this app-flooding holds on,
it will be VERY hard to find the REALLY good apps in the store, even if there are more of the high-quality apps in apples application store, in the android market you keep the overview and find the best apps much easier.....

Ok-ish review. Htc is more for people that can't go 5 minutes without knowing if there's a new comment on their latest flirtbook photo or how many "friends" they have now or the latest tweet from whoever bothers to tell the world that they just took a dump and are now watching TV. iPhone is faster smoother and way easier to use more intuitive and less fussy. Typing sucks on the hero.......get an iPhone unless ur a sad social networking addict......in which case, get a life!

Iphone will be a winner for two very important reasons. 1.) Its an ipod! and mp3 quality on other phones doesnt even live up to iphones ablility. 2.) Iphone offers more fun apps that target the younger crowds which double their sales

Uhm... Every phone is a music player, and your obviously not very smart if you think the iphone has like an "ability" to play songs better than others, because the hero is clearly better. Second, im sorry, but considering the fact that more than half android apps are free, that targets a younger crowd more than a bunch of paid stuff.

its amazing that iphone is now on OS 3.1ish? and the hero is running cupcake 1.5 hopefully soon 2.0 and its functionality over the iphone is phenomenal and not to mention the performance for it only being a 528mhz processor to the iphones 600mhz....it may be a bit laggy but its up and coming for great improvements

theres no native facebook app that will give you notifications on the phone yet but if you sync your contacts to your facebook, itll tell you next to the contacts in a little green bubble about how many updates there are, what i do is just bookmark facebook and use the widget to check it whenever i want, cuz the mobile website shows you the updates too. i think the hero is the best phone next to the nexus one, if only it wasnt for tmobile and was sprint compatible! but the hero is still amazing!

Install bloo for android from the market. Run the app in the background and it will send you notifications as long as there is 3g or wifi connectivity. You could also check status updates by checking your contacts list , if you have already linked them to your facebook profiles

I really think the only advantage the iPhone has is the video card. It simply uses a faster GPU so anything graphical gets refreshed more times per second, so it looks smoother and allows for things like scrolling through a web page or zooming in real-time instead of having it refresh once you stop touching the screen.
