Just to follow-up with this. It's already paid for itself in the first 10 months. I have a pressure tank hooked up to a 1HP water pump, which waters my garden and yard through the irrigation system. It works well and a side note. I put the tanks under the house and found they actually store heat off the furnace, which in turn cuts down on my heating cost. So it's a win win solution.
This might be a really dumb question...but if u connected a hose to the bottom and fed it to the top of the tank, would the weight of a full tank be enough to pump the water round in a circle?
Nice...I have a 55 gallon plastic drum that I modified. Flipped it upside down so I could use the existing ports the thread in a garden hose. Cut a hole in the top for the feed, and a hole in the side for overflow. We pay $0 to water our new garden :)
@WANTONSOUPGUY with the 4 tanks in series, its paid for itself already. Total cost with pressure tank, pump, pipe, and tanks $1000. Water has gotten so expensive, you think it was gas or something. Plus it's full of all that crap to condition it. My tomatos this year have been the best tasting I've ever had. With a sprinkler system, it gives me about 70 minutes of continous water, which breaks down to about 8 days of continuous maintenance water without rain or having to switch to city water
This is a great idea for an emergency. Who would be the first ones to knock on the door wanting to use water for a shower? That's right...hot privileged women.
@OurTroopsRule so are you going to help them soap up too? its the going rate for emergency shower, and ya have to help 'em dry off too, love it, great idea, be my luck to get fat ugly monkey girls, with gold teeth right in front, yuk, carrying a bucket o' chicken
I have 6 of those that I use for rainwater collection. Paid $60/ea on Craigslist. A Farmer had those and there was animal feed in them. They are food grade...they won't brittle or break. Great stuff. It also helps me to keep the underside of the house dry.
where do i get one of these water storage units? i would like 5

Question, Chris: I'm using 2 ICBs as well - they're great. But off an shingle roof, I get "gunk" in them. Any ideas there? Filters/seives, etc?

@dukeminster that would be perpetual motion. So no it wouldnt. The water in the hose would fill till the top of the water in the tank.
YiuTeub 4 months ago
@dukeminster No. The water would not be changing potential energy.

All you need now is a medium size water tower to pressurize the water more

That is a ton of water saved up in there.
Where did you get these totes and how much did they cost you?
Thanks,
Devin

Craigslist seems to have a large selection - I paid 70 bucks each and have 4 tied together

That is the kind of container I was trying to find for my system, but could only locate 55gal drums. Looks to be working great!
