Ok, the most optimistic calculation of how much weight you move during your push ups is: 51kg (2/3 of BW) + 55kg (added load) = 106kg. That is a best case scenario beacuse it assumes that you are using a full 2/3rds of your BW, whereas, you may be moving less than this. A more conservative estimate would be: 38.5kg (1/2 of BW) + 55kg = 93.5kg. Hope this helps.

Hmm, I'm sure that the percentage of body weight used is different from person to person, but a good approximation is up to two thirds of your bodyweight; it is a good idea to get into a press up position, with your hands resting on a set of bathroom scales, as this will give you an general idea. Add on the extra weight that you use, and that is how much you move during your push ups.
However, that doesn't necessarily translate directly into equivalent bench press poundages.
wow, very nice! I weigh 57kg and add 15kg to my pressups as I was getting bored-gone from roughly 70 to failure to 15 with only 25% increased weight? Will I be able to work up to higher weights quickly? And if I go back to just bodyweight would I be able to do many more than 70 or would it roughly stay the same? I dont know if I would be increasing endurance much, even if I increase strength.
How quickly you progress through added poundages to your push ups will depend a lot on your genetic makeup. But for reference purposes, I started performing weighted push ups approximately eight months ago, using BW + 10kg for 10 reps. I'm now on BW + 60kg for 8 reps.
You will probably find that the poundage increments will be fairly large, on a week by week basis, in the beginning (perhaps 2.5 - 5kg), but will become much less so after a few months. I aim to add 1.25kg 2-3 weekly.

I feel that weighted press-ups are definitely an underrated exercise. Despite the akwardness of the disc placement, I'd much reather perform them, along with parallel bar dips, than the conventional bench press.

I currently weigh 98kg (approx 216lbs). Nice job; 55kg @ 77kg body weight is impressive.
