My favorite part of the Concerto, it vies with the 3rd movement for technique and passion. My good friend in high school had an uncle who attended the recording session (he was a 2nd violin in the Philly), and he said he almost didn't play, so nervous was he before the 1st take!
This was the 1st ever recording of this concerto I'd heard- your original 1930's recording on vinyl. Your elegance, style, and effortless skill makes this much more than a showpiece. There is sly wit, humor, a slight sarcasm, great color and drama, and a funny peevishness in the tone that is both mocking and dramatic in a beautifully cuckoo kind of way. The 1st and the best I've ever heard!
I have heard several versions of Mr. Francescatti playing the Pag 1 Concerto, I have one of him in the very early days when he first toured the US playing it with a piano only and it too is wonderful There is just not enough complimentary I can say about his playing, so polished and refined--such elegance...I love this man's playing
