I love kathleen and her energy and talent, I am ashamed that there are some sour apples commenting on this page/ I am a Celtic/World dj and I am also a fiddler (never to aspire to this status) and can tell a great musician when i hear one! Go Kathleen!
Natalie MacMaster isn't a good, pure-bred, traditional fiddler by every since of the word? Have I read that correctly?! Despite her popularity, she originated with, and on-goingly keeps alive a tradition that has been passed through her bloodline from prior generations. That cannot be 'taken away' from her. However, no comment from me on Ms Kathleen Gorey-McSorley as I know nothing of her background.
This is again another HORRID example of how celtic music is quickly sliding downhill. Another 'pretty face' dancing to hide the mediocre 'quality' of the playing. Repetitive, boring, predictable, no soul, no taste, no respect of the genre. It's like another one pops out now and then: a copycat hoping to gain the same popularity of the likes of Natalie McMaster, who admittedly is not much better than Kathleen, but that SHE has her famous uncle Buddy MacMaster adding 'cred' to her poor playing.
@gidgetsdigitalgadget this is a 15 yr old fiddle player who has been learning since before she can remember, she enjoys it thoroughly and is always progressing.. if that is not in the spirit of celtic music than please kind sir explain to me what is
@420jaymac, I'm neither "kind" nor a "sir", you assume too much. The "spirit of celtic music" is certainly not about showing off little cheap tricks on the fiddle to gain cheap applause from rabble. She "plays" Archie Menzie as if it were a circus-ride tune. All the good nuances and phrases are missing. Let's face it, all she has learned from watching similar show-offs, is HOW to show off. There isn't ANY music in what she's pumping out. It's bloody boring and discouraging to watch and hear.
