  • Doris was 28 or 29 when this movie was filmed.

  • Doesnt matter how many times you watch it, it's still hilarious when she falls on her ass xD

  • This song makes my heart sing, but I know in truth it's more because of the delivery and the singer. A wonderful film.

  • i wish i could find the reprise of this song that's sung the end of the movie...

  • I found this video after having a look at the various tributes on here of the great HBO series - Deadwood. I've not seen this film, but I will surely find a way to see it asap. One of my childhood passions was musicals - Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, a couple of others whose titles elude me. I've recently developed a passion for the western genre, so I expect to enjoy it.

  • Loved this as a child. Would love to find it on DVD.

  • @SophiaPatience go on stagevu.com

  • Brilliant truly Brilliant!

  • ok if i become famous and die and they make a musical about me i will come back and whoop some ass

  • There is a TRUCK on back at 0:54 LOL

  • i love this film and her shes amazing :D

  • I'm 13 and this is my favourite film of all time!

  • I'm 17 and it makes me ashamed of my generation at how crappy movies have become.. Why can't we have good movies like these again?

  • @Demloir --- because, instead of genuine actors, we have drug-addled, media-whoring divas posing as such, and writers who think "original" is simply finding another title to paste on a remake of an older film.

  • @Demloir I'm 15 and think the same thing. I mean Doris was what 20-30? Compared to our generation of music, how can you compare?! Just the same with Judy Garland:)

  • @Demloir Nice sweeping generalization there, bud.

  • @Demloir You and me both.

  • I've seen this countless times, completely ageless.

  • Anybody that's watched Deadwood before watching this... well they're just staring aghast at the screen right now.

Go look up Calamity Jane from the HBO Deadwood and laugh at the contrast.

  • @BollocksUtwat And even Robin Weigert was a little too pretty pull off a convincing Calamity Jane, albeit she did a more convincing job than Doris Day, "here Doris, put on this dusty cowboy outfit.. awesome, you are Calamity Janes twin."

  • they dont make em like this anymore!, simply fantastic :)

  • Superb, end of!

  • The lovely Doris, she is timeless........

  • I love the way she says "tune" in this XD

I've grown up with this, and now I love it so much!

  • Calamity Jane is my school play this year, Its in november and we somehow cant get this song right :L

  • how will i do a western accent for the play i'm doing???? im panicking!

  • 58 year;s old but what a classic....Love Doris Day...

  • 58 year;s old but what a classic....Love Doris Day..

  • I have to sing this for a pantomime.! :/ That's going to go badly...

  • Doris Day was 29 when she inhabited this role. She was outstanding. I don't think anyone could have done a better job.

  • I love it when Bill stands up and Calam looks down and then up and still carries on. LOVE IT! Shame Howard Keel is dead, a real shame.

  • great video

  • GREAT GREAT GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 2:08... I wonder if they bought that from Nigel West Dickens...

  • Great woman - no-one comes near xxxx

  • Doris Day is still alive

  • She was a fantastic entertainer -- singer, actress -- just a star ...

  • i think she's still alive actually :P

  • we're singing this for our production

  • this makes me so happy i love doris day she is the best

  • just fabulous

  • This takes me back to my childhood, when I used to love Calamity Jane, Mary Poppins, that old color painted Robin Hood, etc etc... And then in the teenage years these ceased to be cool, lol - and we went for the 90's action movies^^

  • make mine sasparilly. And string up those three dislikes.

  • These films recorded on moving backdrops are a thing of beauty.

  • One of the best original screen musicals of all time!!!!!

  • Can anyone not love Doris Day?

  • @entheta shes amazing mi idol !!

  • As a kid, I spent hours lip-synching to this! Still am thanks to this post! :) LOVED the movie!

  • this is nothing like her im doing a report on her she was chunky and the coat should be brown she had either copper red or raven {black] hair

  • @TheGator46 I doubt she sang Secret Love either >;)

  • @SparklAmethystDragon Oh YES SHE DID

  • @TheGator46 she was blonde in a lot of movies, and thin. what are you smoking

  • @bloodugly1 I believe TheGator46 is referring to the real Calamity Jane and not Doris Day. They don't realize that this movie is loosely based around the real Calamity Jane not a historical documentary.

  • I wonder if this film showed that she was a whore in reality?

  • i did this at my school show its really good and i was clamity jane i love this SOOOOOOOOOOOO much lol!!!!!!! even though its old

  • @ivancaenetto Even though it's old?

  • so in the old west they traveled with a complete orchestra and could all sing in harmony.... damn, I love the history channel.

  • I want her boots so badly!

  • she keeps slapping tht poor driver

  • All good fun! A great song and a fantastic singer.

  • Joe was the barman , god Americans are thick .

  • I think I prefer David Milch's view of Deadwood a little better.

  • Love this film and Doris Day

  • too little cocksucker ..

  • Why does she end with "Set 'em up, Joe"? I thought the proprietor's name was Henry Miller? Joe was the laundry thief, I thought?

  • Hahaha, the only one who'd dare mess with Bill Hickok! She nicked his chair! Just look at his face

  • Bill Hikoks smile at 3:41 had my heart going when I first watched this in middle school. I think this may be my favorite movie.

  • Bill Hillcocks smile at 3:41 had my heart going when I first watched this in middle school. I think this may be my favorite movie.

  • loving the conveiniently placed bar at 2:39 :)

  • @kewlness888 lol. seriously.

  • @kewlness888 ROFL i noticed that too!

  • Was in Deadwood years ago. Could still visit the cemetery and see Calamity Jane and Wild Bill's graves. Understand vandalism caused restrictions. Not sure. Haven't wanted to go back since gambling changed it so much.

  • My favorite movie

  • @RiotTheFinal Good luck!i'm sure it will be great :)

  • I declare, Calam is darn fetching in her buckskin outfit with those blonde locks a-peaking out from under her cap. Yeehaw!

  • doing this play at school im singing in itt too :O:O oh god x

  • @babychereentrotter

O_O Good luck with that, I think you need it.

  • bit different to Deadwood's representation...

  • One of WB's best. At 1:29 they do nothing to hide the set facades of the buildings but it doesn't matter! Adds to the overall flavor of the piece.

  • I love this film! :o)

  • I love the slight smile on bill's face at 3:41 it's so easy to tell they like each other from the way she talks about him and 'i can do without you' :)

I discovered that Doris Day is the same age as my mum (who died in 2005). Long may Doris live. She is wonderful.

  • Saw it when I was still small, must have be more than 40years ago, I dont know if still find the movie, it's good to have this upload, I can go back to the movie and listen to this hit song of that time, Thanks !

  • go on Doris...give it some

  • i love this movie musical this is one you can't get bored of easily

  • i've been watching this film since i was about three! I still haven't grown tired of it. Calamity Jane is the best.

  • Its cool I love it

  • Doris is so talented - love this film..

  • Doris is an absolute joy to behold.....and such a wonderfully talented lady. Watch the scene, towards the middle, when she enters the Golden Garter saloon. That's one continuous 'take'....very athletic and in perfect timing with the music. Don't tell me that she is not a master at her craft in this movie.

I (heart) Doris Day...... she's my girl.

  • Incredible energy. In addition to her charming voice and looks and delivery, she shows she was quite an athlete. She also had one of the best behinds in show biz. No wonder she was a huge star in the '50's and the most popular female film box office star of all time. Sadly, her 3rd husband, Melcher, squandered most of her earnings.

  • bill is so gorgeous!

  • Love this, my school is doing this for our play and I'm hoping to get the part of Calamity. I don't really stand much chance though.

  • Love her! She's fantastic, she gives me chills and goosebumps! Amazing woman.

  • Love it. Doris is such a talent! Thanks for uploading this.

  • She should 've been a boy....!

  • i love the beggining of the movie plus i love the 6 in hand horses haulin that coach

  • Calamity Jane has always been one of my favorite movies. I think everyone fell in love with Doris Day when they saw her in this movie..what a delight to see her sing and dance!! So much talent in such a small package and so lovely, too! :D

Thanks a lot for posting this 'feel-good' video..a great way to start the day!

    **********

  • she's so beautiful. & her voice is amazing.

(: i watch this musical alll the time/

  • Try singing this song yourself. It's speed and the contours of the melody make it extre mely diofficult to sing. Yet Doris' voice is so fluid, presenting the song as smoothly as if it were "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." She is utterly amazing! No other singer could have done this this well.

  • Thanks for uploading this wonderful clip. Doris Day at her very best; so charming, funny, beautiful voice and acting!! God bless her soul!

  • her best dancings, her best singing, best "performing" a character and most fun acting, in other words, her best movie and a classic. my sis once said she should have gotten an oscar for this role. dont know what the oscar winner was that year, but she definitely should have gotten at least a nod.

  • There were several critics who thought she deserved a nomination for this also.

  • what a voice on her.

  • thinking of you kristy for your audition xxx

    love u hun xxx

  • DD's best role in my opinion...really shows her talent, acting and singing

  • I thought you meant a blooper fall not her "fall" at the end LOL... but yeah falling in front of everyone she would NEVER live that down "You didn't drink anything and you fell over"

  • That's what I though beore gags24601 told me.

  • oh ok thats cool

  • when does Calam slip and fall? (didn't see it was too busy attempting to sing LOL)

  • 4:20

  • Watched this non stop as a kid ..........now watch it with my son.

    Love it.
