All of your comments make for a very interesting discussion. Joey was humiliated by her football star husband's indecent exposure to a 10 year old girl. That would definitely translate into a scandal by today's standards. However, I don't think we would hold a spouse accountable like folks did when it happened so you could say that Joey was a victim of standards of the day. As I recall the incedent involving Lance was big news for a week, but it quickly faded. In 1970 we didn't have the internet, shows like TMZ, Access Hollywood, or Entertainment Tonight. Joey would've been hounded to no avail to say something.

That's pretty shocking. I usually put these 'better-then-than-now' gripes down to childhood nostalgia but this clip alters my perspective. Everything about it (choreography, set, sound, arrangement) seems iconic in its greatness! Most valid is the star herself. None of the 'do-it-yourself' 'charm' of the post-punk generations; this is pure talent shaped & schooled in excellence but making that knowledge seem as natural as a stroll down the street. They really don't make 'em like this anymore.

I agree, but it's like comparing apples to oranges. I agree with antshrike that Joey was the "Brittney" of her time (or is it that Britney is the "Joey" of her time?). S/he's not saying that one has more talent than the other, just saying that, as compared to other artists of our time, Britney's style is most similar to Joey's style. I think they're both talented, but Joey's look and style are more polished, she's more attractive and has that extra "sparkle" to her that Spears doesn't have.
