If you people read the books and pay attention to the Halo timeline, Master Chief, Kelly, Sam, Linda, all the Spartans in The Fall of Reach are SPARTAN IIs. Dr. Halsey started the SPARTAN program when John (117) was six years old. When humanity made contact with the Covenant the Chief was only 14, and he wore MJOLNIR armor. The first SPARTANs were master chiefs class of about 30 some odd spartans. That was in 2525. The fall of Reach was in 2552.

And even though I said this before, the story is slightly different than the books and Onyx isn't even a game so it's very unlikely that they are Spartan IIIs. Also, Spartan IIIs wear SPI armor and Noble team wears MJOLNIR.

Dr. Halsey JUST debuted in a game, and this is the first time she was Mentioned in a game as well... trust me they're Spartan IIIs, Thats why Jorge is so god damn tall and bulky compared to the rest. And when I said they were on Reach I meant Onyx just had Reach on my mind so i accidentally typed it in.

@elitex111 They were removed from Beta company and became Noble team, kind of a stand alone Spartan squad they're still Spartan 3s but they have to look like Spartan 2s because they have to interact with other marines so thats why they don't have SPI armor

Even the recent Reach commercial that can be seen on TV uses the old one. It seems like they use a mixture of both the old one and the new one.

@AluorSXflam There are no Spartan Is, Spartan IIs were soldiers selected at birth along with a hundred or so others to become the elite. They dealt with the insurgents at first. Spartan IIIs were created mid-war as a cheaper, more expendable Spartan to reduce Spartan II casualties. John and Jorge are just two of them.
