I want to thank you for adding this video. I tried to make one by pattern but it didn't turn out but this makes its so easy. I'm making a rug i can use at beach. I'm using banana berry, spring green, turqua, and royal blue.
thank you!! i made two stars and they were a little goofy looking so I tried a 3rd time and the star is much better looking. takes practice and watching the video several times. your teaching method is easy to follow. thank you :-)
Thank sooooo so so so muuuuuch! I have been trying to crochet a baby blanket for a friend and it is waaaaaaaaay overdue. My friend had her son in September, but anyway, I was doing a typical straight, rectangular blanket and I think it's hideous but I could find anything appealing or easy to understand. YOU are a lifesaver, I can't wait to start this project!
Two things. I seem to be losing a stitch at the beginning of each row.. So I slip stitch the last stitch of the previous row into the new row then slip stitch over one to get it off center and chain three then go up the row to get the appropriate number, right? Well I'm on 12 up 3-3-3, 12 down. But I'm only reaching 11 up. Should I just pick up another stitch and not worry about it? This is twice now I've managed to muss up. Also, the chain three in the 3-3-3, I missed in one row. Needed or not?
Thank you so much. I have been trying to learn to crochet and have watched lots of videos because the written directions in books might as well be written in French. I don't get it. I watched your video on the basketweave once and was able to start my blanket. I watched the star video a snipet at a time and was able to start my star in less than an hour. Do you sell any videos of other projects?
@audreywyatt hello.....Mikey doesn't sell videos but all the tutorials in Mikeys collection are available on youtube (search under mikeyssmail) and/or mikeys website the crochet crowd .com
HOLY COW - Thank you so much! I'd been trying to make a neat baby afghan that begins with a star, working off written instructions to build the star. The instructions had me completely bewildered for a good week; when I finally got it right I found that the star just really didn't come together correctly. This video makes it super logical, and I love that newbies (like me) can pause and work at their own pace. Awesome, awesome, awesome. Thanks!!!
@chemmmm also, you could probably just keep making smaller stars and sew the together (like a granny square). I'm not exactly sure how it would turn out/ how you would sew them together because of their shape.
@chemmmm to make the blanket, you just have to continue the pattern of the star. Just keep expanding it- then 8 stitches, 10 stitches, etc. Therefore, ur end result is going to be a gigantic star. If you don't want a star as your blanket, don't use this pattern.
Is there anywhere that this is written out? I tried to follow the video but, I am better at looking at directions. However, I will say you are a great teacher and made things very easy to follow but, I have it on my phone and the video always messes up when I try to pause or go back.
@princessnikki007 hello....I know u asked about the difference between the yarns...the names may be different but they are both 4 ply worsted weight yarns..... Bernat is the name of the yarn he is using like red heart etc... some people prefer one 4ply worsted weight yarn to another but they are the same thickness.... cathy@the crochet crowd helpdesk
thank you sooo much i figured it out the second time i watched it, you are a great teacher because you helped me to understand the pattern , i will post a picture on your facebook page when im done
woo you have made the slip knot so easy :-) .. i had alot of bother before i saw this . thanks ... how can i keep my wool loose? i am not holding the wool tight, i have the same problem when i try to knit.. i am beginner .
@plaingal1 if your yarn is coming directly out of the skien or ball with some pull that will make a difference....instead pull out some loose yarn and use it until its caught up and tight again keep doing that so your yarn is loose as your crocheting.....see if that helps Cathy@the crochet crowd helpdesk :)
@princessnikki007 mikey is using a 4ply worsted weight yarn here....so you should be all set?? What is making you think your using the wrong yarn?? Cathy@The Crochet Crowd Helpdek ;)
Thank you so much. I saw a star pattern when I visited my mother over Thanksgiving, but the directions just didn't click and I gave up. Watching you do it made it MUCH easier to understand. I'm making mine with variegated yarn so I opted not to switch colors. But so far it looks great. I can't wait to put it in the crib when my little one arrives.
This looks soooo hard but it's sooooo not! I just learned to crochet about 6 months ago, and I haven't had any trouble making this. The pattern is very forgiving! I've had to add or subtract a stitch here and there, but you can't tell! You're a great teacher!
Simply said, you are just Awesome!! I've been crocheting (and knitting) since I was 12 .. so 18 years .. oh gosh! I love, Love LOVE your channel. This is my next project, for sure!! Thanks so much for all you do! You are an inspiration!
Thank you for showing us how to do this. I have made 25 blankets because of you. Could you show us how to make a heart blanket with the same process? All of the ones I have seen are too hard to understand. If anyone could do this, it would be you. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for all the videos that you post. I have done this start pattern in red, white and blue and it came out very nice. I also did your never ending grannie square. I am new to crocheting and I am still learning how to finish up the porjects. Thanks you.
Hi, love your work, and you are one teacher that I understand, thank you. I have been trying to make a bonnet to go with booties (Mary Jane's) you showed me, and the little sweater. No one has this bonnet. Please I know you are very busy, but can you come up with a simple one? Keep up the good work. :o)

@mikessmail, thanks so much for this video.. I was fighting to read the instructions for a baby star afghan, and it didnt make sense.. after about 6 or 7 tries I gave up, and then found your video. Really simple, and even works for a lefty... south paws really need more instruction on crochet!
Thanks so much for this! i keep seeing patterns for this on youtube and i never thought i would be skilled enough to do it but this is really easy! thanks again!
@Undeadftw711 : You definitely dont want a written version of this. It is SO HARD to follow. This has been the BEST explination. I made a huge mess out of my yarn trying to follow the written directions.
Thank you, Mikey! This video is much easier to follow then your series of videos containing this same particular patters. Even though I have made MANY of these, when I go on hiatus from crocheting, I always have to come back and take a refresher course. Compiling your series into one video makes it so much easier! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

This is a great video! I'm going to start mine very soon. I was curious if you had a rough estimate on how much yarn this blanket took for it's finished size? Thanks
I loved this video, not only is it a really awesome pattern, but you did a great job at explaining how to do it! Canrsiegrl: that sounds like a cool idea making smaller stars and attaching them!
It's a shame that something that took you five minutes took me hours to do... Oh well, it's my fault for wanting to learn how to crochet with this project, hahaha~
Ha! I did it and very happy with my creation too....I find your tutorials brilliant, informative & very easy to follow :-) thank you Mikey for all your hard work x
That's awesome Spaces! I've been trying over and over again. I have the correct hook for the yarn I'm using and everything but I just can't get it down. I think it's mostly because I'm doing all of this off my iPod-computer crashed:( I won't give up, though!!!!
I asked several times about the diamond stitch that Mikey did with the yarn his grandmother gave him...there's a tutorial showing the blanket, but no indication of the way to make that stitch.
I'd like to make a blanket with several different color stars, smaller and attach them...is there a way to do that? I don't see a tutorial anywhere...
@canrsiegrl there is no tutorial for linking stars.....you might just need to play with it to see how to link them the best........if you search linking yo yo circles that video might help.......chanel at mikeys helpdek :)
Considering that i can make a very simple square crotchet blanket ( a little mishapen square actually) , I'm really excited to learn this super star pattern. I have just created the first star and can see it taking shape. Thank you.
I would absolutely love to learn how to make this. I've seen all the different Patterson and design, but there so confusing! It's much easier to understand if you see and gear it rather than reading it. One problem, I'm a beginner! Any way to simplify this for a newbie?!?!
@ashleyyyl1 I did what Mikey suggested- just paused and replayed the video a bunch until I understood what was going on. It helped- I now have 2 completed blankets, and I'm working on a star pillow now! Good luck to you! : )
Thanks Mikey! I had tried an online pattern that had a photo tutorial and it was a disaster! This video made it a snap to start the pattern and make a wonderful child's afghan!

Thanks Mikey! I had tried an online pattern that had a photo tutorial and it was a disaster! This video made it a snap to start the pattern and make a wonderful child's afghan!
Mikey I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the wonderful tutorials you create. I recently took crocheting up after 20 years, I had a hard time reading patterns. that's why I stopped crocheting, I didn't have anyone to teach me, so I got frustrated and quit. Now that we have this wonderful thing called the internet (lol) I can watch you do the stitches and BAM it's like I knew how to do it all along. You are so special and so wonderful I just adore you! Happy Hooking!
This rocks! Thank you 100 times over for taking the time to make this tutorial. I would never have been able to make this based on the pattern I had- you totally made my day! I can't believe how fast this works up. LOVE IT! : )
you mention sneaking in an extra stitch when you find that you've made an error. This is all well and good once you have mastered the stitch (mistakes happen),but while learning a new stitch, I use crochet cotton, and insist on tearing out my work to undo the error and redo it properly every time I make an error
Omg!!!! I don't think I even knew you could so this with yarn ad to have it explained like this made it sooo amazingly simple...my first afgan and I never once got lost! 12 hrs and 22 rounds later my hands can't take anymore but I wanna keep it up its so fun!THANK YOU!
I really liked this tutorial! I learned how to crochet before I learned how to knit, and this helped with retraining my fingers and gave me a pattern I could listen to instead of read which has made this go quite quickly! I finished 10 rounds in 2 hours! now only... 22 rounds to go! Which should be... 60 additional stitches for each round. ugh. happy hooking!
@MrsKelstar80 its hard to say how many skiens of yarn you will need for your project. it depends on how big you make the blanket and how big the skiens of yarn are that you want to use. they come in all different sizes....for example if you wanted to use red heart super saver yarn you might start with 3-4 skiens and see how far that gets you and then buy more if your blanket isnt at its desired sz yet but a smaller skien of yarn you will need to buy more.hope this helps chanel@ mikeys helpdesk
Thank you for making this so easy. Before I found your tutorial I was struggling for two days making and undoing the first five rounds of this blanket. After following your tutorial I got it the FIRST time and my blanket turned out beautiful.
I make blankets for Project Linus. I was looking for a new stitch/pattern for my newest blanket. When I ran onto this video I immediately decided to make a star blanket to donate! I use bits of leftover skeins of yarn to make the stars more colorful. Thanks for the great tutorial!
Your tutorial is AMAZING! I'm an extreme beginner in crochet, I've done some beanies and really simple blankets and such since I was a kid, but never in my life would I have thought I could do this...I'm going onto my third color right now from where your tutorial stopped and I feel so proud (and sore!). I know I didn't do it by the books, cause I can see where I put my needle in is different than you, but it is a star and it looks really good :D
For the last 2 days i have been wanting to learn flowers and was able to grasp that within an hour. so just a few minutes ago i decided that i should learn stars (knowing that my 2 boys would not be happy with flowers... hee hee); within minutes i had it!
I love the "power of 3" count, it makes it easy to do from memory!!!
thank you for this amazing video, now i can finally make stars. i am making blankets for soldiers to feel a little at home, of coarse in red, white and blue. thank you mikey!!!
This is great, I started one straight away and was really pleased, I was getting bored of just making granny square blankets I'll be doing lots more stars for my friends who are having babies next year x mikey you are a true crochet legend x
Thanks for posting this! Your direcionts are very clear and I was so proud of myself for following them! It makes such a cool blanket. I used up a bunch of odds and ends of skeins of yarn I had used on other projects and it turned out really neat!
Hey by the way I chose red, black, and white for my colors. The color cone receptors in babies eyes are only able to distinguish black white and red for the first several months. This is also how cats and dogs see the world there entire lives. Isn't that crazy!...
Yeah, it works up great!!! The three clusters are perfect. Great idea. Had a few issues with the gaps between the points. They are turning out a bit larger than I would like. Im using a 5 ply ultra soft yarn with a K hook. That is most likely the reason. I may try it again with only a SC in those spaces. I don't want it to begin to curl though. I guess I'll find out and let you know. Thanks again.
i a little confused...what exactly are pillars? i was taught by my great grandmother and she only tought me simple stuff :P i usualy make really detailled things but i never count and never do gaps....if anyone could help that would be amazing....
@KecioLuvsInuasah the 'pillars' are the actual double crochets. sometimes it is easier to count the actual stitches because the holes can be deceiving
I can't read patterns to save my life, but I love to crochet. Thank you for sharing this w/the world . After 19 years, I finally know how to make this lovely stitch! Greatly enjoy learning from your videos. If I keep watching your videos & doing your lessons, I MAY make a dent in my yarn stash. HAHA Thank you again! :)
Thank you for teaching me how to make this awesome pattern. You are a great teacher!!! I really appreciate how you took the time to express how important it is to put your hook threw the right stitch had you not, I would have never known that stitch was separate. Thanks to you I had a perfect star my first time, and I'm new at crocheting!
Thank you very much. You have taught me how to crochet. I am on my second granny square afghan, and I can't wait to try this one. You are a wonderful teacher and make learning a new skill lots of fun!
Thank you so much for the video. I have always wanted to learn this and thanks too your great teaching I have accomplished my baby star afghan. God Bless and wish you the best of everything. I look forward to learning more.
Omg! I abosultely love it!!! Ur a very very good teacher and my star looks fantastic! I really love how u hide the yarn in the project it's so smart I've never thought of that b4 and Now it looks so nice! Thank you thank you thank you sooooo much:)))))
Okay, I'm going to get the yarn as soon as I am finished typing this message. I have mad stash yarn that this'll be great for. I'll send you a picture when it's complete.
I want to thank you for adding this video. I tried to make one by pattern but it didn't turn out but this makes its so easy. I'm making a rug i can use at beach. I'm using banana berry, spring green, turqua, and royal blue.

@canrsiegrl there is no tutorial for linking stars.....you might just need to play with it to see how to link them the best........if you search linking yo yo circles that video might help.......chanel at mikeys helpdek :)

@canrsiegrl That is a REALLY good idea! if you figure out how, you should post a how to! i would love to make something like that.

Considering that i can make a very simple square crotchet blanket ( a little mishapen square actually) , I'm really excited to learn this super star pattern. I have just created the first star and can see it taking shape. Thank you.

Yeah, that's probably what I'll end up doing. And with my pregnancy brain it'll probably get done by christmas! Lol. Thank you:D

Patterns* not Patterson! Lol.
ashleyyyl1 9 months ago
I would absolutely love to learn how to make this. I've seen all the different Patterson and design, but there so confusing! It's much easier to understand if you see and gear it rather than reading it. One problem, I'm a beginner! Any way to simplify this for a newbie?!?!
ashleyyyl1 9 months ago
@ashleyyyl1 the only thing i can think of is to pause the tutorial as much as oyu need to and go at your own pace....... chanel@ mikeys helpdesk :)
mikeyssmail 9 months ago 5
@ashleyyyl1 I did what Mikey suggested- just paused and replayed the video a bunch until I understood what was going on. It helped- I now have 2 completed blankets, and I'm working on a star pillow now! Good luck to you! : )

Thanks Mikey! I had tried an online pattern that had a photo tutorial and it was a disaster! This video made it a snap to start the pattern and make a wonderful child's afghan!

LOVE IT! : )

Is there a way to make several stars and link them together to form a blanket?
rboo09 10 months ago
Hi . I love your tutorials! You make things so easy to understand. My only question is where do I get the pattern for this blanket? Thank you Mikey.
crochetgrammy 10 months ago
you mention sneaking in an extra stitch when you find that you've made an error. This is all well and good once you have mastered the stitch (mistakes happen),but while learning a new stitch, I use crochet cotton, and insist on tearing out my work to undo the error and redo it properly every time I make an error

How many balls of wool dose it take to do an average star blanket for a baby??
MrsKelstar80 1 year ago

THANK YOU! ^o^

For the last 2 days i have been wanting to learn flowers and was able to grasp that within an hour. so just a few minutes ago i decided that i should learn stars (knowing that my 2 boys would not be happy with flowers... hee hee); within minutes i had it!
I love the "power of 3" count, it makes it easy to do from memory!!!
thank you so much :)

Thanks for posting this! Your direcionts are very clear and I was so proud of myself for following them! It makes such a cool blanket. I used up a bunch of odds and ends of skeins of yarn I had used on other projects and it turned out really neat!
PointeShoePrincess85 1 year ago
Hey by the way I chose red, black, and white for my colors. The color cone receptors in babies eyes are only able to distinguish black white and red for the first several months. This is also how cats and dogs see the world there entire lives. Isn't that crazy!...
bitemyram 1 year ago

KecioLuvsInuasah 1 year ago
