Emo (emotional hardcore) was started with a little DC band called Embrace it was not shite then. At the drive in are Emotional Hardcore -they're fooking great! The fact that the major record labels have grabbed the title and used to promote newage boy groups has ruined the term that pin holed a sound. Point is, don't use terms to describe music... just say what you like an don't waste your breathe stating what you don't like. Emo kids are the people that didn't fit in but found a crowd to join.

@OllyTheAllen Aye, there's controversy on who started it.  Most say it was the Rites of Spring. Regardless, it was definitely in the same circles as Ian Mackaye and Guy Piciotto. But it's not that they were emo, they never wanted to be that. But emo bands were influenced by these guys, and thus they were dragged into the label by no fault of their own.
