Two great people. I miss the old SNL guys as well. From the 80's until about 2000-01. I watch it every chance I get and the past 10 years have been not that great. I want to say shortly after Tina Fey was brought on it was on a downhill slope. If I remember right, shortly after Ferell left forte and hader joined in and it really was kinda a mesh. Also, bad calls like firing Norm really called for it's current downfall. Come on, Lohan will host SNL? Absolute GARBAGE.
@abril438 I'm not sure which interviews you are referring to but NBC Universal is preventing any more video from Conan to be put up, I was putting up video and then wondering why I only had 0 hits. Turns out they are being "blocked world wide".
@armondo22 Yeah I was amazed to see this again a couple of years ago. I had totally forgotten about it otherwise. Good to see Chris as a regular dude addressing fame.
Both these guys always killed it in every scene on SNL. Even when they messed up, they messed up so much better than anyone else. Remember the wigs that always came off Chris Farleys head and they'd just go with it? Pure Gold.
@Chimchimchu I agree ! When both of them were on stage it was always a laugh fest. Like the rich guy (Hartman) deciding whether to give the street bum (Farley) some change. Or my fave sketch "The Relapse Guy" where Hartman plays Farley's executive father to the unemployable Farley.
Phil Hartman pales in comparison to the great man sitting next to him. I wish Chris Farley was here now making movies... he could have made at least 10 before people got tired of him! but he only made less than 5 right?
fat guy? obvious and disappointing comments on the tube. this guy killed it, on so many levels, enjoy him. The abuse is sad but i'd be an ass "blah sad compare". miss this kid, killed it on so many levels. forever in my heart.
Everyone should read "The Chris Farley Show" it will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about Chris Farley I have read it cover to cover three times in 2 days...
I LOVE LOVE Chris Farley!! I've one of his skits on my favorites! Phil was pretty good too. I'm just kind of sad BOTH those guys are gone, WAY before their time!
It really makes me sick to realize that these two men are gone. Chris and Phil were the two best SNL cast members ever, in my opinion. Can you imagine what comedy would be like today if they were still with us?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Chris's fat ass was so coked up. Fuck all your comments about talent. Chris had a moment or two two where he showed some talent. The reality is that Chris Farley, like John Belushi, was a fat cocaine head that had pipe blast moment of fame that far exceeded any talent he truly possessed.
@Grassroots00666 Considering both of the two people you listed are almost always listed on things about the best saturday night live cast and/or have multiple sketches on best skit lists, it seems that not too many people agree with you...
It'd like to know who YOU think is a talented comedian? I consider a talented comedian someone who makes you laugh at their stuff 2 decades (in Chris' case) and about 3 decades (in John's case) since they performed.
I met Chris Farley my junior year of high school in Manhattan, just months before he died. Such a lovable guy.. Even 14 years after his death, the man lives...
It's so sad to see that these guys are both dead, but this is such a great opportunity to see them together like this. "Thin ice! Richard... I think you may have killed Richard." The delivery of that line was just great.
Kinda hard to watch this ---- Hartman and Farley were the two funniest guys in the last 25 years........and both died too young and too tragically.........my heart hurts ;-(
At 3:24, David Spade says "You guys, it's tough when, uh, when you guys are gone because ninety-eight percent of the talent is gone, too," then Producer Marci Klein says "We love you." That's the most prophetic and saddest thing ever.
It's sad, I wonder if Chris ever knew what people saw in him and his comedy....He was such a sweet guy, lovely, and with the biggest heart of any comedian ever. It seems like, from what I've read, that he was obsessed with the fact that he had to be the 'fat guy' to get laughs....That's not what made you funny Chris, it was the beautifully sweet child-like energy that knew no bounds. I sincerely hope you're resting peacefully....
It always hurt me that Chris' genuine humour was often intertwined with his weight issues. So often his biggest laughs came at the expense of him putting himself down over his weight. I wish he would have realized he was worth much more than that and those "fans" who laughed at him because of his size rather than with him because of his comedic talent made me wanna mash them in the face. Rest easy Chris. You're missed and loved.
Sad that both died horribly. The Phil Hartman death was REALLY shocking because I had literally just laughed hysterically at his appearance in a film and then I turn on the news and see this story about his wife shooting him and boy was it sad. And Farley seemed like such a sweet guy who just wanted love and laughter. Scary how they died within 5 months of each other.
Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but it the date at the bottom of the tv (Feb. 15, 1994) is the day that this was filmed, then that means it was filmed on Chris' birthday.
Chris Farley was a very disturbed, foolish man whose selfishness---fueled by nervous insecurities---governed his thought life (a thought life centered on the love he could reap in making the world laugh). Unfortunately, he didn't accurately appraise the value of making a world full of fickle fools laugh. I assure you, of the millions who loved his comedy, few cried when he died.
The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, But the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.
@Davertin Thats really admirable of you to talk dirt on a dead man. Does your precious book of parables say anything about cowards who spit on the good name of good people after they passed? Grow up you small-minded, little person. Chris Farley fans, friends and family could care less about your meaningless opinion. Chris Farley meant a lot to some people, admittedly not all, but that's not a reason to get on your internet high horse and spout garbage.
@Davertin well since your book of fairytales says something about 'Doing unto others' I'll make sure to pass all my poor opinions of you off as truth. It really gets me when you whack-job Christians or Catholics or whatever you are come onto a page (which is obviously FOR FANS) and say dumb shit that no one asked you to defecate from your mouth.
Good, because since you view truth as garbage, your views of me which you pass off as truth, will be garbage to you as well.
p.s. I was also a huge fan of Farley, but reality is a jagged pill. And if Farley had realized the truth of his life while he was alive, he wouldn't have been so miserable (which, according to his biography, he often was), and he would likely be alive to this day. Truth tellers help people; fickle flatterers help no one but themselves.
@Davertin look the point is, unless you were raised by the Westboro Baptist Ministry, you should've been taught to not disrespect the dead. Chris Farley made mistakes. Everyone does, but you and your kind should stop judging the dead because thats for your precious Lord to do.
I spoke the truth about Chris Farley and his condition. I did not insult or disrespect him. If you want to know what disrespect is, read your first two comments to me, and you will have a good definition to base all future judgments on.
The corporate executives at SNL encouraged Chris Farley wildness to such an extreme that he lost his sense of reality, as demonstrated in this video. That happened to Belushi, too. I wonder if Mr. Michaels understand this and ever ponders the extent of his culpability.
@thethoughtsofme I don't know about that. You're implying that Chris was not acting out of his own gut when he did these things. People who act the clown tend to push their own boundaries as a response to the good vibes they get from doing so. I am sure the hard living he did outside what wildness he did in the media (which is what he should have only been concerned with) is what caught up to him. Unless of course he secretly hated that side of his self and went self destructive, I doubt it?
@thethoughtsofme No they didn't. Chris was always like this. He wasn't comfortable in his own skin, and this is how he dealt with it, by constantly goofing off and trying to make people laugh at him.
Hartman's words at the end of this are so chilling...0_0 Goddamn, I miss both of these guys much more than words can express. I hate comparing the guys on SNL now to these two who have reached so many hearts and minds because they simply cannot hold a candle to them. SNL had a sentimental feel to it then in that you cared for every one of the cast members as they had a genuine side to them. Now, it's one whore of a sketch after another.
A campaign has been launched on Facebook with the help of Phil Hartman's brother Paul to get Phil on the Canadian and Hollywood Walks of Fame. thanks for posting this.. this is a rare opportunity to see both of these guys together in an informal context. i mean, i remember seeing them on talk shows, but they werent really as relaxed and casual as this. im just feeling sadness all over again knowing how tragically early they both passed.
@zwartepiet412 I agree, that is why I had to put it up besides how rare and unusual the clip is at it is. Farley is free range in Phil's hands I get the sense, and totally himself. Still it does not effect his comic timing or delivery and he doesn't look under the influence of anything either. Phil comes across as an anchor as Chris points out "the glue".
@TVGuido watching this clip again and I realize this is the most non under the influence performance by both these two. I have a clip of Phil Harman on Letterman where is totally under. Seriously this is the most pure look at these two that exists!
Don't give a damn about Chris Farley (as coked out fat comedic guys are a dime a dozen), but damn, I hate that Phil Hartman is no longer with us. He was beyond words.
wow. Spade said when you guys are gone 98% of the talent is gone. I know he meant the office but it's still creepy cause this is so close to their deaths
It's kind of erie to watch these two together. Two extremely talented guys who met tragic ends. The saddest part is that their deaths could have been avoided. We're worse off without them.
Hey everybody, we've launched the 2011 campaign to get Phil Hartman his stars on the Canadian and Hollywood Walks of Fame and we need all the help we can get. Please visit the "Phil Hartman for Walk of Fame" page on Facebook. Included is the link to the Canada Walk of Fame to cast your vote for Phil and anybody in the world can vote. OH FUCK ME......why did Farley have to die so young? Hartman was decent, but I would have piss running down my leg when Farley got on a roll. He was the funniest dude who was ever on SNL. His movie career was brilliant but cut short because of his death. Just wish Farley's friends like Spade and Sandler would've gotten him help for his addictions instead of ignoring it like selfish assholes. Hartman died indirectly because of drugs too (his wife was a cokehead).

Farley was a legend. They need more people like him & hartman. They need to get rid of Keenan for starters.

thanks for posting this.. this is a rare opportunity to see both of these guys together in an informal context. i mean, i remember seeing them on talk shows, but they werent really as relaxed and casual as this. im just feeling sadness all over again knowing how tragically early they both passed.
zwartepiet412 1 year ago 25
@zwartepiet412 I agree, that is why I had to put it up besides how rare and unusual the clip is at it is. Farley is free range in Phil's hands I get the sense, and totally himself. Still it does not effect his comic timing or delivery and he doesn't look under the influence of anything either. Phil comes across as an anchor as Chris points out "the glue".
TVGuido 1 year ago
@TVGuido watching this clip again and I realize this is the most non under the influence performance by both these two. I have a clip of Phil Harman on Letterman where is totally under. Seriously this is the most pure look at these two that exists!
TVGuido 1 year ago
@zwartepiet412 yeah really, I just saw Farley on Letterman this same year and he's a completely different person, all nervous and hyper.

I LIVE IN A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!!! HAHAHA. RIP Chris Farley

this is the best interview of Chris Farley I have ever seen. He seems so at ease compared to other interviews.
jimmym02 1 year ago
It's kind of erie to watch these two together. Two extremely talented guys who met tragic ends. The saddest part is that their deaths could have been avoided. We're worse off without them.

This is all Chris and no Phil.
Chris was so right about Phil being "The Glue."
TheCottonTop 1 year ago
OH FUCK ME......why did Farley have to die so young? Hartman was decent, but I would have piss running down my leg when Farley got on a roll. He was the funniest dude who was ever on SNL. His movie career was brilliant but cut short because of his death. Just wish Farley's friends like Spade and Sandler would've gotten him help for his addictions instead of ignoring it like selfish assholes. Hartman died indirectly because of drugs too (his wife was a cokehead).

kinda ironic/scary when david spade called in saying "when you guys are gone, 98% of the talent is gone".....who wouldve thought it would be so soon?
