The future of big band jazz is in good hands if this group is any indication. They understand how to play as an ensemble and they have the ability to have each part heard. Great job folks. I look forward to hearing more from this group!
It sounds like a trumpet is playing the first part of the song open, yet they're all in buckets. Is that a microphone placement thing or was the audio overdubbed from the video?...or is someone using a different kind of mute that makes it sound open at the top?...or is the lead player's sound that bright that it cut through a bucket mute? Just curious.
@dfjazzzzz It's definitely live. I can't speak about the mic technique, but there was definitely no overdubbing. UM records audio and video for every Friday afternoon Jazz Forum--including this one--live.
You should check out Alberto Monnar! He's a great musician, and sax player! He has supernatural talent! He can play every single instrument on the planet!

A Miami Jazz band that actually looks like students not their parents. But play like pros. Tons of talent.

This is a "lift" of the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland recording... probably a Bobby Myers transcription, but the arrangement is Boland's
