I remember an interview with Ginger Rogers on BBC in the late 80 's, she was in a wheelchair after her stroke and frankly looked like a mummy..but being a good christian scientist she wouldn't aknowledge either the illness or any medication for it, so the woman interviewer told her she looked "fabulous" and "it can't be long ago since you did some great dancing, now can it ?"..this was followed by a leaden silence and some more empty talk about her then recently published book..spot on parody !

Yeah well....dawn and Jennifer have done some funny work but this is not one of their best. I appreciate comedy and caricatures but some things just foray too far into "bad taste". Maybe the girls are jealous of the fact that us brits have never had anyone like Fred and Ginger nor the great Katherine. Heaven knows Olivier was a pompous idiot. Maybe mocking everything is a British thing but there are places it works. Here it doesn't.

Either way youtube is not a country. I think that America is just as good as anywhere of making distasteful jokes about people/events ect. The only difference I see in this sketch is that there's doesn't seem to be a genuine desire to be malicious.

I'm not British but England has had finer actors than almost any country.

Those who are offended by this should realize that it isn't a satire at the expense of Katherine Hepburn and Ginger Rogers. What it satirises is American celebrity culture, where every night is a gala event. Ancient movie stars, however senile, are wheeled out to lend respectability to something that is nothing more than self-congratulation. It's Hollywood patting itself on the back.

That's fair game for satire, and this sketch was funny, funny funny...

Ginger Rogers really was wheelchair bound in the later years of her life. Much as I like French and Saunders, it just seems sad that not only was Ginger's passion for dancing taken away from her like that, but someone had to make comedy out of it.
