Usually those wrong-wheel-drive Buicks are found camping in the fast lane of any American highway, going 10 MPH slower than the speed limit, with the left turn signal blinking. And blinking. And blinking...
I noticed that he wasn't really reving it to the redline. Is the tach accurate? If so, was he just shifting at the peak torque revs or saving the engine because it's an endurance race? Nice battle with the Buick BTW. Lemons is fun! Our SHO has alot of tailwagging too.
Hah I have a '92 Le Sabre. I named her Slushie. It's a car that obeys the Leno rule. It's better to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car really fast.
Awesome video! You should swap in a 6-speed. Just get a used C52 normally aspirated 1987-89 MR2 transaxle for like $100, and then find a 6-speed C60 from a Pontiac Vibe. Find one that has a cracked bellhousing for like $200. The 6spd guts swap right into the C52 MR2 trans, which bolts right up to your 4A-GZE supercharged engine. You'll need a flywheel and clutch from a non SC engine. On this track I can see where a 6spd would have helped. Again, AWESOME video, I plan on entering a MR2 in 2011 :)
Wow the driver in that buick has some balls on the amount of bouncing that went around on that track. Also that sucker had some power. It'll put some car lengths on ya in the straights.
I was with Final Gear when they ran that car last weekend. I assure you it's a totally stock 99 LeSabre with the NA 3800 and GT suspension with 130k on the clock. We ran silver 18x8's in the front and chrome Olds rims from a junkyard in back.
I was wondering why i didn't see the MR2 during my night stint. I was in the hot seat from around the time you guys were out until 4am. it was a thrill!
Man, that Buick is really going.. who would have thought! Good job "Serj"! What sort of lap times were you turning Rob? I musta got a slower driver on my stints as I never really noticed the Buick (only one really made me work was the Alfa and Supra)
Buicks are so ugly but they run forever that is why so many are still on the road

The tach is off. The redline, using that tach, is about 5k with torque starting to drop off around 4.5k.
BTW - Version 2 is coming up.

Oh the body roll and wallowing!
mikeb1444 2 years ago
You shouldn't talk about our driver like that. ;)
Pitviper70 2 years ago
With the wallowing? That Buick is so intimidating to drive. You can feel the sidewall flex.
mikeb1444 2 years ago
Oy... our driver's body flexes and wallows... It's a joke.

Oh, my bad. I had my calc final today and I'm a little fried in the head.

That Buick must have one of those GM's Supercharged Engines that makes me sometimes why Granny took off in such a hurry..
mbukukanyau 2 years ago
Nope, it's the 205hp NA Series II 3800 The LeSabre never got the supercharged 3800.
punisherbass 2 years ago
If that was an SC engine with the Cats cut off there wouldn't have been a race.

That was awesome! Makes me love my blue '98 LeSabre even more now! Just need to put in a new starter and alternator and she'll be tiptop in no time.
unusualawesome 2 years ago
Wow! That is the FASTEST you will EVER see a 90's wrong-wheel-drive Buick go. And the ONLY time you ever see it actually PASS another car!
Must be rockin' the 3800 V6. What a great engine.
wankelbolt 2 years ago 3
The Buick s/c 300 V6 Series II/III is a damn bloody devil engine.
manoman0 2 years ago
its just a plain old 203 hp 3.8, they dint put a supercharged version in the LeSabre, and thats what that car was.

We were typically in the low 1:30s with a low of 1:27 (in traffic). We were out at 11:00pm so we weren't on track when there wasn't a lot of traffic.
