  • great actor, really love this guy

  • great actor.. but no River

  • @AngryAtTechnology75 yea he's not a drug addict. terrible

  • here he looks like someone who is related to Alan from The Hangover! ha

  • I seriously love this guy. He is one of the most talented actors I have ever seen. It's sad that he is so underrated in Hollywood.

  • Joaquin will you marry me?

  • It seems Joaquin could almost relate personal experience to this story. What still puzzles me though is why Joaquin will never talk about the memory of his brother River in interviews. River Phoenix was one of the great acting talents of the last 30 years but it seems like his memory has been lost.

  • @califtom He doesn't talk about River 'cause River wouldn't want that. He didn't want people talking about him or being on the spotlight. And Joaquin knows that. That's called respect.

  • @stigidilaatio I can understand that, it just seems like River's memory has been forgotten. I don't understand why he can't even reminisce about River's life. River still has alot of fans such as myself and I would really like to see his family members acknowledge him from time to time. He paved the way for Joaquin who would not be where he is today if not for River.

  • @califtom Yeah, I get your point. But still, I think Joaquin just respects the fact that River didn't want to be talked about to the whole world. Doesn't mean River's memory would be forgotten, his memory lives on forever, or atleast just as long as his family and, of course, fans live. I will definitely tell my kids about this wonderful, talented young man and show them his movies.

  • @califtom I was too young to understand the media frenzy surrounding the loss of his brother, but now, some of the things I see, read - it was inhumane, how the media behaved. Has it gotten better, I wonder? The call to 911, released - and still accessible here, online (How is it? Who released it? Don't click, don't support it, some things are more important than curiosity) and the desecration, graverobbing that happened after the event. Why should he talk about this? The family's shared enough.

  • @MidnightAndLulu I'm not sure the media acted inappropriately or not. The 911 call was released by our constitutional freedom of information. River's death was one of the saddest events of that decade and he left behind alot of fans including myself. I don't think Joaquin reminiscing about how much he learned from his brother or some of the pleasant memories they shared is desecrating his memory. I think the fact River's memory has been lost is one of the saddest things of all.

  • @califtom I'm sorry - I was referring to the pictures sold, the ones gathered afterward from trespassing (I wonder if that person regrets it, years later?) I do think sensationalizing the call was wrong. When people call 911 it's for emergencies; those calls shouldn't be released for the sake of media exploitation and profit. It wasn't information the public needed to know for their own security, only to satisfy curiosity. But remembrance is a beautiful and important thing. Nothing wrong, there.

  • @MidnightAndLulu Yea that was pretty awful, but I guess that's what being a celebrity is about these days. Chris Farley, Tupac and Kurt Cobain all had grisly death photographs as well. When you become a celebrity you private life is no longer private and that's just the reality they must live or die with.

  • @califtom Just because things are a certain way, it doesn't mean that way is acceptable. Celeb media has tamed itself a bit since the 90's, but it's still important that the public not be enablers of cruelty. Every click/purchase of exploitative media shows popularity and enables this to continue. People aren't bad for wondering, they just need to use self-control and not intentionally support these things. That means no clicking on exploitative pics or vids that perpetuate the initial violation.

  • @MidnightAndLulu Well, I'm not sure exploitive media can be considered cruelty, but it is in bad taste. Again, when a celebrity chooses to enter the spotlight they have given up their privacy to a large degree. The objective of most production companies and film distributors is to get the public as obsessed with their stars as possible so they will continue to spend money on films, merchandise, etc.

  • @MidnightAndLulu Wow I remember encountering morons like you when I lived in America. Been awhile since I lived there but I had forgotten how self-righteous, over-opinionated and obnoxious so many Americans can be. Of all the "causes" to feel strongly about you choose the hardships of millionaire celebrities? ha ha. Gimme a break.

  • @MidnightAndLulu You should try spending more time in reality instead of this utopian dreamworld you wished we all lived in. Are you seriously trying to say that a dead celebrities 911 call or leaked photo appearing on the web is the same thing as sexual assault or rape? Having people follow you around and take photos is nothing even resembling inhuman and its absurd to even suggest otherwise. If you want to see inhuman try traveling outside of that toxic bubble of America you live in sometime.

  • @MidnightAndLulu this is totally unrealted to the film, but seeing as theres an arguement goin on here,im just gonna say,i live in the U.K and would swap to live in the states anytime :)

  • @richy12377 It's a lovely place, these here United States :)

  • @MidnightAndLulu That seems to be a theme on youtube... bashing America behind a keyboard. Maybe it's our superior military, our advanced health care system, heck... maybe it's the Alabama Crimson Tide. There's no telling. Jealousy brings out the worst in everyone.

  • @bamabelle327 Well, maybe I did sound a little preachy, initially...but that wasn't the tone I heard in my head while typing it. The point I was trying to make, is that the "celebrity" excuse can't be used for everything. And I think broadcasting someone's frantic 911 call, for the sake of entertainment and public consumption, is inhumane. I think it's deeply wrong. There are limits to what's an acceptable way to make profit. That went too far. But if it's shown popular, they'll keep doing it...

  • @MidnightAndLulu I'm a huge River fan to this day, and I like "Leaf" as well.. but that's not even the point. You're exactly right. The first time I'd ever heard the 911 call, I felt sick to my stomach. Even feelings aside, it was just plain exploitative. The family has an open coffin picture and a 911 call floating around the internet against their will. People can be heartless, to say the least.

  • When I see him I think of J.T. from Survivor

  • hes hot!

  • With an intro like this...the movie better be GOOD.

  • Joaquin is amazing! You never see many actors like him who stand up for what they believe in and for being so sincere with what's in his heart! I absolutly LOVE him!!

  • go vegan to save animals like him!

  • @normalguyable go suck a dick

  • @bjmuegg why dont you!?!?

  • @bjmuegg go eat more innocent animals murderer!!

  • Joaqin is a very gifted actor, i hope he does another movie soon. Strange and brilliant that both he and his brother River were and are such wonderful actors.

  • watch "I'm Still Here"

  • @nachoman700 worst movie ever

  • @beatlegirl95 (sigh) it is

  • GREIF

  • those eyes, oh my gosh. he is so sexy

  • @burstmatress which makes him a fuckin genius. i've heard that it's a hoax, but really nobody has a clue.. great actor, whether it's movies or fuckin reality

  • @burstmatress No, He's a fucking genius--and beautiful, and brilliant, etc. etc...

  • My favorite film of his is still U-Turn. Best of luck whatever you do.

  • so thats how you pronounce his name.. lol what happened to leaf??

  • awww my baby <3 i love him !!!!!

  • I just got through watching him in Two Lovers and I was soooooo moved I cried all my mascara down to my neck. He is brilliant. I really hope he makes a come back some day.

  • He speaks just like river. They like to take in breaths in the middle of sentences lol

  • ilove him. So muccccch.:]

  • Now I see the similarity between him and his brother. I never thought they were related. But now I can see they have the same eyes.

  • Love you Joaquin!

  • i really hope he is not drugging! I hope its all an act! He has wonderful magnetism on film, and he is very captivating! it would be sad if he really does quit acting!

  • @Daisy72762

    They all do drugs/

  • hey mami!!

    what happend swettyheart?

i want to use drugs to be like joaquin!!

oh shit. maybe me to darling

=this country is the best and the worst at the same time

  • he is an amazing actor..hes wonderfully beautiful.. And we should all wish him well and that he isnt using again..that is a terribly hard road to come back from..

  • Something is surely affecting his speach here, but it's also possible he has some illness we don't know about and has to take perscription drugs. My mom talked funny for a while too, it didn't make her a junkie and people shouldn't hypothisise about other peoples lives when they know nothing about them.

  • Aren't his eyes amazing.

  • Sorry but people need to accept the truth. Maybe there is a tiny tiny chance that he is joking but I don't think he is. He could be the type of actor who gets so absorbed in a character they sort of get stuck. There have been many deaths this year, but one notably is Michael Jackson. You might not like him, but he even released a song in 1997 saying he was addicted and having problems and no one noticed and look what happened. This is not funny at all. We could lose a great talent if it's real.

  • reservation road was a hella good movie

  • my godness what happend to him now?!totally diffrent person..T__T

  • you know he's a method actor right?

    it's for a role.

  • @imcoolandreallynot

    haha i wish man...i wish

  • I hope he gets the help he needs!

  • oh please

  • he should go back to acting but keep a light beard to hide the hair lip nd keep his hair this length or a lil longer

  • wtf?

  • What a fucking waste! I hate him see doing rap music with a crazy hobo look. lol

  • Agreed!

  • amazing movie

  • I love Joaquin Phoenix, he is a great actor and I respect him for speaking his mind and doing great things. I hope that whatever he does we can see more of him.

  • the movie wasnt THAT sad

  • hollywood bullshit

  • I love his Beard!!! he is great!

  • Joaquin is one of the finer acters today. I hope he doesn't bail on acting completely.

  • he seems... twitchy.

  • I love this movie

  • He played a fantastic roll in the gladiator, I hope he shaves his beard and comes back to acting

  • just because someone plays in several movies doesn't mean they are going to do the same thing for the rest of their life. Joaquin obviously can see through the hollywood artificial glamour. He made a conscious choice to take a break and take control.

  • Greif? Really?

  • first off, the whole him rapping thing is just a hoax. Second, he was fantastic in this movie! He's an amazing actor. Lastly, he should take a break. Especially, since he's had trouble with drugs before. Everyone in hollywood should take a break once in a while, so that they don't get lost in all the madness. That's what River Phoenix should've done. He became like his character in My Own Private Idaho

  • i totally agree with you! This all shit is just hoax!

    he is great actor!

i hope soon he gonna tell us that this was just a joke, performance!

  • Good actor...but making a fool of himself lately with that new image. That UGLY hideous beard and the mumbling...whats wrong with him??????????

  • heroin and cocaine.

  • yaaah .......whats wrong????????

  • he watched his brother die in his arms wouldnt you be fucked up

  • that's what i've been saying...plus doing this movie probably brought it out.

  • yea that to i meen I HOPE its all a prank what hes doing but it really looks like he is depressed and emotional about his life but hes a fucking brilliant actor that i would hate to see just fall off the edge

  • Yoi...his brother died in 1993 and he had 16 yrs of regular acting, movies interviews and speaking...this is rather new behavior.

  • i aint gotta do nothing but stay white and die but i meen fucked up as he probably dont feel the same and wishes his brother wasd there to see his sucess

  • Are you telling me, that if you watched a family member you love to death actually die in your arms and feel helpless, you would just move on and not be changed?

  • You would be changed obviously, and it must have been excruciating for him. But you don't have a break down about something like that 16 years later after the fact. Maybe it was a factor in the spiraling down but truth is, we won't know until he gets his shit together, sobers up, or announces that it was all a big joke.

  • How do you know he isn't having a breakdown 16 years later, ConcreteGirl?

You don't always see what and how a person deals with grief and there is no time limit on when you can have a break down from previous events or tragedies in your life. Anything could have happened to trigger the suppressed memory of his brother dying his arms after all these years.

Everyone deals with and handles grief differently, some turn to alchol and/or drugs and some breakdown mentally or both.

  • do you really think he's having a breakdown because of his brother that died years ago?

  • Yes it is possibble.

From my understanding aftert his incident he didn't stop what he was doing he continued to do things that took the focus of that memory from his mind..... and if you can do that for years Kiitty...... something may happen many years later to trigger that suppressed memory and it could send a person spiraling our of control and/or cause a nervous breakdown from holding that pain and stress in for that long....

  • hahaha i can't believe that some people actually believe that this whole thing is for real.

  • I never said I believed that this thing in this video was real..

First of all my comment was to someone else not you.... I was responding to what they said about dealing with death years later and it's effects on an individual....

My comment had nothing to with this video, it had everything to do with the comment I was responding to...

  • and yet you responded back to me.

  • yep just wanted to directly point out that ur full of "it" plus an "sh". so keep ur analysis to yourself where it belongs.

  • wtf? i think you responded to the wrong user.

  • yeah lovie2000 obviously has a degree in psychoanalysis so you should have full faith in everything that he/she has studied for throughout his/her many years of higher education, qualifying him/her to make analysis' over the internet such as this.

  • haha

  • You obviously never been through that kind of pain, you do not just move on.

  • depends on the person. Some may dwell on it forever, others may come to terms with it early and except it.

  • You are right, i wish i could be one of the ones that could come to terms and move on but I can say I understand the other side when you cant move on, or dont know how.

  • i have and my psychatrist told me to drink beyond the point of self-recognition.

  • i feel he is making a fool out of himself too...even if it is a joke he is acting this one out so good i am afraid he really has gone nuts. if you find out whats up with him let me know ..cuz now im curious..

  • look, back when he was talking like a sensible person... :o

  • yeah, i told everyone it wasn't the beard

  • Joaquin is a celeboddity

  • Joaquin Phoenix was amazing in this movie, another good performance in a film which had a lot of depth , he definitely had a way of choosing characters / scripts that mean something to him regardless of how big the budget was.

  • greif?? why bother with an "i" why not greef.. rhymes with beef... mmm yummy

  • You should see him in the movie U-Turn by Olive Stone!

    What a character...

  • Joaquin's work in Gladiator will stand the test of time as one of the greatest performances ever. Whatever he chooses to do I will always respect his artistry 100%.

  • If he is happier pursuing a career in music, then so be it. How selfish are we to say he should remain as an actor. I hope Joaquin and everyone every where finds what they are looking for.

  • How is it selfish to say that he's a way better actor than a musician?

  • I didn't. You implied that yourself.

  • inferred

  • wow I think acting in all kinds of rolls made him snap and I seriously think he developed some kind of mental/physiological issue and he knows it and thats why he gave up acting maybe. I dont know, im just assuming. poor guy. I hope he gets better soon.

  • you "assume" the man has lost his mind then hope he gets better?

  • he es such an amezing actor but get out of that please you shut do more work and no more bad friends arrow you

  • His brother got all messed up on drugs also, remember

  • shoo!! ill take a grizzly Joaquin anyday! shoo

  • The narroter voice was so annoying, I had to stop the bloody clip. Omg get another job...

  • Does Joakin have some kind of illness or is he just high all the time.

  • he has aids

  • Really? Get out here..lol

  • no, not really, I mean maybe, who knows. Basically you got trolled.

  • he had trolls

  • a nice, SANE, Joaquin Pheonix here..

    he is so differnt now...

insecure, rapper, trying to gain a "rep" ahahaha its sad because he is such an amzing actor, and he sucks as a rapper.

  • Fuck Mark Ruffalo

  • Anyone here tell me please why we are arguing about vegan diet vs. vegetarian diet vs. meat eating. What has this to do with the movie or what the movie is about????

  • JOAQUIN PHOENIX did a spot for a vegan/vegetarian commercial during thanksgiving and said give the bird a break or something.

  • Man! Joaquin is HOT!!!

  • Another thing on vegan diets, they eat alot of fruit. Fruit = sugar = increased blood sugar/insulin levels = fat storage.

  • "Modern society" accounts for about .000000001% on the time line of our evolution. You only have to go as far as to look at how our teeth are constructed to figure out we are omnivores.

A proper human diet is, 40% protein, 40% Carbohydrate, and 20% fats. You need just shy of a gram of protein per lb of body weight every day. In order to get that amount of protein, a vegan has to eat more food, more food = more calories = fat. Or more commonly they don't eat enough, and are deficient.

  • Without meat, said Milton, it's unlikely that proto humans could have secured enough energy and nutrition from the plants available in their African environment at that time to evolve into the active, sociable, intelligent creatures they became. Receding forests would have deprived them of the more nutritious leaves and fruits that forest-dwelling primates survive on said Milton.

Taken from the the University of California at Berkeley website, 06-14-99

  • But now they can, right? Modern society... man.

  • "Meat-eating was essential for human evolution, says UC Berkeley anthropologist specializing in diet

It was this new meat diet, full of densely-packed nutrients, that provided the catalyst for human evolution, particularly the growth of the brain, said Katharine Milton, an authority on primate diet.

  • cont...

"Comparative brain size is closely related to diet with leaf-eaters (folivores) having smaller brains with proportionally less neocortex in relation to body size than frugivores (fruit eaters). The guts of chimpanzees and gorillas are optimised for fruit eating and leaf eating respectively, the human gut is optimised for high energy diets (principally derived from eating meat).

  • "Diet: Foley & Lee, and Gibons have argued that the change in cranial capacity during the course of hominid evolution required dietary and developmental strategies that would sustain the cost of a large brain.Milton discusses the behavioral and physiological adaptations concerned with plant-eating, fruit-eating and meat-eating diets. The latter two diets require the development of mental skills such as memory for food locations and increased social co-operation for hunting/food sharing."

  • "Why not be vegan? My brother is and he has a perfectly well balanced diet. You don't HAVE to eat meat if you don't want to.."

Eating meat is why our brains evolved larger. If we never ate meat, we would still be swinging from the trees. Go look it up if you don't believe me.

  • provide me a link to read please

  • GRIEF is what Tupac feels when he sees JOAQUIN PHOENIX is BIGGER than him! Girl feel ma!

  • What's 'greif'?

  • This guy channels the character he is playing serious acting!. And sometimes it can be very hard to disconnect from character when the film is complete.

You can see his own personality is transforming due to the immense pressure of this character he is channelling also the others he played which still lay dormant within himself.

It was during this film they merged at once and became so overwhelming that his own personality is affected

I am glad he left before it was to late

  • why be vegan?... humans' bodies are designed to eat meat... if I was a cow instead of a human, I wouldn't mind being eaten... sometimes you eat the cow and sometimes you get eaten... this is how reincarnation works

  • If you talk about reincarnation, you should know that the concept stems from old hindu scriptures who describe the neverending circle of reincarnation as the ultimate suffering which needs to be escaped through cleansing of the karma. Thats why many hindu and buddhist traditions refrain from eating meat, because it actually creates bad karma, according to their beliefs. So don't use reincarnation as a justifying argument for eating meat, it's nonsense.

  • Ok that makes absolutely no sense, if vegans refrain from eating meat because of the suffering of a living thing...well...ahem...plants are living things so that in turn defeats the whole purpose. Where does one draw the line then? This isn't a matter of "eating meat is murder" this is about trying to impose beliefs and guilt on those who do eat meat and that is a baseball bat to one's free will. I'm not going to respond to anything you or anyone else says in regards to this. I know I'm right.

  • But if you're right.... science must be wrong. lol. Plants don't have a central nerve system, which is a physical requirement for psychological processing of sensory perception. They're reaction to their senses is vegetative. Look that stuff up, you could learn a lot obviously. Plants have no psyche and no consciousness in the way we understand it. Nevertheless they are of course alive and should be treated with respect imho. But the pain and suffering of an animal is very comparable to ours.

  • nicely said!

  • Why not be vegan? My brother is and he has a perfectly well balanced diet. You don't HAVE to eat meat if you don't want to..

Your reincarnation argument is bull too because people have different views, not everyone believes reincarnation exists, some believe when you die that's it.

  • dont date vegans they dont do oral

  • Yea rapping is now cooler than acting.

  • I doubt that ghosts use internet phrases like PPL, B4, 2NIGHT, U etc. Eat shit, spammer.

  • I love him. He is a Vegan!!

  • I dont know what it is about joaquin. He is hot!

  • Howdy.. I need to go to hollywood and freak people out cuz I look juss like him!!! Then Id be famous! OMG!!!! i Was just typing that. I should really Do It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yooo..........

  • I think he looks like John Belushi, and should do a bio movie on that late great actor/comedian. I didn't think anyone could play Johnny Cash, but he did it with panache. Come on Joaquin-give us the true story of a tortured soul.

  • he is a great actor

and not to metion he is cute.

  • again...joaquin is fabulous! walk the line is my all time favorite. though, i am a johnny cash fan, too!

  • Great actors! I love Jennifer Connely. When will this movie come out in Europe?

  • He must be freezing in this interview, at the start you can see his breath when he's talking!

  • Fantastic movie!!!

  • looks like Mr. Edwards from Little House on the Prairie..it's weird. I like it lol

  • reservation road ethan confronts dwight

  • Joaquin suits that beard (in my opinion).

He could pass for Iranian, with that look.
