That would be a question for SoundTower. Best guess is a free version of the editor will continue to come with the Tetra and the VST will be available separately through SoundTower, much like their LE and pro versions now.
We make the hardware, SoundTower makes the software. Currently the editor is not a VST but SoundTower is developing it and we have seen screen shots for it. They have beta testers working on the VST now so it's only a matter of time before it is released.
Thanks for the reply I understand what your saying so fair enough..
Ive since watched a few on line demos of the Tetra and it looks like I will be getting a hold of one my self. I was of course looking to see the capabilities of the editor but I was able to download it and its rather comprehensive. The VST compatibility would of course be the icing on the cake.
The editor is not set up to work with poly chained instruments. The best way to do it is work with the instrument of your choice, then dump the patches from one instrument to the other when you're done. The Tetra can be connected to the editor and still controlled by the MoPho Keyboard while editing, just turn poly chain off so you don't get a skipped note while playing.
Ok I am ready to buy a dave smith synth !!BUT NOT UNTILL VST!! becomes released
here on the website it says : We are also pleased to announce that Soundtower is working on VST and AU support with a projected release sometime in Q1 of 2009.
The editor is stand-alone and not a plug-in. You can still use it concurrently with Pro Tools through your MIDI controller by using virtual MIDI ports, but you won't be able to automate the parameters through the editor.
You can of course automate all the parameters via CC or NRPN messages on your MIDI track in Pro Tools. VST support is in development, which will eventually allow you to use the editor as a plug-in.
We're waiting for the VST too! We don't make software, we make hardware. The software developer SoundTower is responsible for the VST so as soon as they have completed it we'll be offering it to you.
Any chance they will fix the layer B editing on the pro version? When I make adjustments to that layer they don't update in the Tetra till I save the patch then re-select it.
It's an OS bug. We're currently working on an OS revision for the Tetra and this is on the list so it will be fixed. Expect the new OS within a month.
I really want to buy a Tetra but I really wish this editor was a VST instead of having to loop it through a virtual midi port. Any chance that we will see an editor which can be run as a VST?
I'm so divided between buying this synth and another one. VST support for the tetra editor is the only thing that is missing from my wish list here. I hope the VST editor is out when I get my money in early January.
Great sounding analog synth at a bargain price. I've just got one but I have a lot to learn, 4-part multitimbral, 4 note polyphony, 4 voices, Combi mode, Unison, 2 layers!!!!!!!!!!!. Help, so much in such a small box . I hope someone writes a 'Guide to the Tetra' book in the near future.Thank's to all at DSI for bringing such great affordable analog products in a digital world, not that there's anything wrong with digital synths of course, each have their place in music/sound production.
would it be possible to use one of the korg nano controllers with the editor to control the tetra with the laptop as middle man? so it would be Nano>PC>Tetra chained with usb. thanks
Sure. Yes, that is exactly how the editor works. The editor and the Tetra both show the edits in real time and there is a function that allows the Nano (or any) keyboard controller to be connected as well.

Can this editor be used in my Daw. ie is its VST ?
This is a very poor demo of the editor considering it comes from the actual maker of the synth.

What editor should I use (Tetra's or Mopho's) in order to control the whole polychained set that is conformed by a Mopho Keyboard and a Tetra?

Is it possible that you could use this as a plug in in pro tools, and run the tetra through a M-audio midi controller?

get another developer! didn't you set a deadline for the vst in your contracts?
really amateur move by them for not being able to deliver a simple vst-editor and much more amateur from you stacking to a skill-less partner...

There is also new editors for MOPHO and TETR4. They are available as both standalone and VST and are free.

Sure! You can trigger the Tetra with any MIDI keyboard that has a MIDI out port.

The editor is standalone right now with the ability to use it concurrently with a DAW using a virtual MIDI port.
VST support is in development and it will be available soon.

Does the editor work within DAWs so as to save the multis and any edits madr etc for each song/project ? Thats very important for me.
columbo71 2 years ago
Sure. You need to set up a virtual MIDI port to operate the editor and a DAW concurrently.
The edits/parameter changes made on a MIDI track are not stored in an external instrument, but in the DAW itself.
If you make parameter changes inside the DAW on a MIDI track and save your project they will be there for Tetra to play back next time as well.

is it easy to assign the midi parameters to a knob / slider on a controller?
(like a right click assign ?)
LofiFreq 2 years ago
Not in an auto-mapping sense. The Tetra uses MIDI CC and NRPN messages for control.
However, you can set your keyboard controller/knob/slider to send the message for the parameter you wish to control and you're good to go.
