This is excellent! I've been trying to find some music by Anthem for a while now. It's amazing to find a band that sounds so fucking good at their age! Not many bands can continue to sound so powerful and energetic after nearly 3 decades into their career! I call these guys the Japanese Saxon!

I actually went to Japan, Club Citta in Kawasaki, to see Anthem in 2007! Yes, they're as good live as you would expect. And I was really happy at how lively Japanese fans are at metal concerts. I actually was given the poster in the marquee; very cool! Go to Japan to see this band if you can, you won't regret it!

If you like this kind of metal, then Japan is really where it's at. Check out the 80's to early 90's Loudness stuff, Saber Tiger, EZO, Asian Typhoon (XYZ to A), Double Dealer, Concerto Moon, Yasha, and the list just keeps going. Guys, what else would you all recommend?

I actually do have the latest Loudness CD, and I do like it. It contains lots of good catchy riffs, something that I have felt has been lacking from them as of late. But yeah, it's a good album.

Fuck yeah this band kicks ass...I had been really curious about japanese hard rock and metal for a while and came across a couple of bands I really am into and this is the best one so far imo. As for rap, same with any music; there's dudes that totally kick ass and then you got all those nimrods who bandwagon and ruin the whole thing. Just like Anthem, you gotta dig to find the truly good shit out there no matter the genre of music. MTV etc, caters to a lousy audience as a whole.

@sybnios You said it! I've been into Anthem for about 2 years now...every listen I'm blown away. I got into Anthem by way of X Japan and Hyde's band before them Saver Tiger (or was it Saber Tiger..I get the two mixed up).

To me..THIS is heavy metal, not that gargled trite that 16 years olds listen to. Dragonforce and and all that xXmetalcoreXx blah blah...take it away from me please!

@ShivaTheAuspicious Yokosuka Saver Tiger Is the band hide was in. Saber Tiger is pretty good as well, though. And just so you know, it's hide(yes, with a lower case "h"). Hyde is a different Japanese artist from a band called L'Arc~en~Ciel.

And I do agree, this is real metal, not the ridiculous stuff that most people listen to nowadays. Sometimes I feel like I was born a couple decades too late. Lol.

There are out of print bandscores for the first 3 albums that only collectors have by now. They sometimes sell them for around 100-150 dollars. There are 3 tabs in the Anthem Bible and some random songs can be found in japanese metal magazines.

I completely disagree. Loudness were absolutely fantastic in their day. Songs like S.D.I., Esper, and Crazy Doctor are a just a few in a large catalogue of songs with vocalist Minoru Niihara that are part of the best in Metal history. To top it all off, they had equivalent mega metal jams with vocalist Mike Vescera in songs like "Soldier of Fortune" and "Demon Disease"(One of my all time favorites), and then with Masaki Yamada (of EZO fame) in songs like "Racing the Wind", "Firestorm", etc..

Name another big time band who's change vocalist that many times and still managed to put together shit that held up? Loudness were just awesome in their day. I'm not happy with their current stuff, but you got to give it to them for what they've been able to put together over their entire history. Great musicians.

Back in the old days earthshine2k,thats the way it was done,and alot of bands will go in and record everything as a band,then start,ovrdubbing and replacing after the fact,still to this day.If You want it to sound raw and heavy,then thats the way to do it.U can replace the guitars and vocals later,then go in and add pro-tools to the vocals to bring everyhing in key.Been there done that in the past,,way in the past,lol,seen it done about 4 years ago too though. Miss the old Analog recordings

well, it's really a moot point. these guys rock, regardless. i guarantee you, however, that the vocals and guitar solo(s) were not recorded live in one take. Not saying it can't be done, but that's just not the way you do it. For the record, i am not a fan of talentless metal bands. I am a fan of Rush. I was looking for Anthem by Rush and came across this. glad i did. it's pretty cool.

and, now that i listen more closely, i'd have to liken it to Queensryche even more than Maiden. Metal with a certain amount of class is hard to achieve. They've nailed it. I've always like those type of clean, tight arrangements with the ripping vocals. There's a tribut album "Working Man" which gives a metal treatment to Rush tunes. Sounds awesome. But, i digress. Anthem rocks. if they came to the states, i'd check them out.

these guys are awesome.  Not buying the 'recorded live' bit, though. You you don't record vocals and guitar solos for distribution in a 'one take', 'live' setting. I love the music, though. Very Maiden-esque, but what metal band isn't? Too bad shredding guitars and ear piercing vocals areen't mainstream in the states anymore. If this hip hop b.s. doesn't fade quickly, i may move to Japan.

The drummer is... so good. He is just using his litheness but NOT his power! This is the real good way to drum!!! and it create an aerial style that I love.

The guitarist is simply... genious, very good taste.

The bass line is background... like all music... What a pity because I do like this one a lot.

Anthem is one of the best bands Ive ever heard. Its awesome that to this day there still playing TRUE metal and still kicking major ass. Loudness on the other hand, a band that used to be The best heavy metal band, have went alternative or something like that, and most of their new stuff sucks.
