  • The best mouthpiece is the one that works for YOU. Next to getting your chops together, your overall sound has to be found. In fact, your sound is actually MORE important. Mouthpiece and reed selection are a lifetime pursuit for the serious player. There is no easy answer...

  • I asked my band director if he knew where i could get a metal mouthpiece, and he told me never to use one, and that it was bad for the instrument. Any thoughts?

  • @MmmBrowneisMmm Your band director is WRONG. BIG TIME. It is the player's personal choice, and your director should never influence you in the wrong way. He might be refering that is is bad for the tone, but it is truly your personal choice. The only bad that could happen is that the mouthpiece can affect your tuning, but that's it.

  • @MmmBrowneisMmm yea get a new director. its all based on the player. i use an otto link metal mouthpiece on my tenor sax it'll give a brighter tone than a hard rubber with some hard rubbers u get that dark jazzy sound that some like. tell your director he doesn't know what he's talking about and if u want a metal mouthpiece go out and try some see what u like. its all based on the player.

  • Sounds like hotel music from Fallout 3!
