@5kyX0: You can do a lot of stuff either way, but the command-line is usually quicker and more powerful if you know what you're doing with it (have taken the time to get familiar). I think from a programmer's perspective, command-line programs are (generally) a bit quicker & easier to make too, so for that reason you'll come across cool software now and then that nobody's written any GUI for yet. Being comfortable at the terminal gives you more flexibility. Also true in Windows, by the way.

I tried strigi, locate, recoll, etc... and wasn't happy with any of them. Didn't need full-text search, but just filenames and metadata. Didn't suspect something like this was bulit-in.

I'm curious however when 'updatedb' gets run for locate... Is it a cron job? Does find use the same database?

Find is a software that comes with *Ubuntu* not linux (is always best to name a system by their true name which is the distribution version as Fedora, Ubuntu and Gentoo are not the same in any way but they are based in UNIX and use linux kernel)
