Great footage. Sucks the sound/vid quality on cams was so poor back then. Also, can really hear the difference between VH w/Ted Templeman production behind them, vs live. Compared to the production wizardry they had w/Templeman, they almost sound anemic live. Just2much 2reproduce, 2emote that energy. I think the drugs/partying/road drama, had a little something2do w/it too, lol. Saw them in 85as Van Hagaar &say what u will, but Sammy had VH way more polished and rocking as a unit, compared2Dave.
@subwoofer1975 rumour has it Michael McDonald from the Doobies played it in the studio as well as Jump. McDonald gets a writing credit for this song...live it was Edward.
@GOODY61 McDonald is credited for writing it on 1984. Unless Warner Bros dished out the BS and printed that BS on the cover....Eddie rarely plays keyboards in the studio or on tour. John Webster from Bryan Adams Band plays on Balance and VHIII
@Gordfozzfoster Michael Mcdonald was credited as a co-writer on the 1984 UK single for "I'll wait". No other credits for him related to him on this album. Credits on the "Balance" cd. Just some credits for some vocal chanting on one of the songs. You have to assume Eddie did play the keyboards on the Van Halen albums. There is not credible evidence to the contrary. John Webster is not credited on either VHIII or Balance. (From Wikipedia) so errors are possible but I think you are wrong.
@GOODY61 Bruce Fairbairn and Mike Fraser have a core of players that seem to ghost most of the stuff they record in Vancouver. Most of these musos are increadible studio gods from a band called Payolas or Bryan Adams. (Bob Rock was gtr plr for Payolas) Poison's Swallow this? studio musos hired to play some of the parts. Eddie does play keybo on albums...but there is help blended in too.
@GOODY61 hahaha...ok...my brother tour managed vh for 12 yrs....betcha you'd love to hear all the stories told around the dinner table at my house. I've seen VH live 23 times. Is there written documentation supporting the claim? Many recordings feature ghost musicians. Mike Fraser told me "Don't Tell Me What Love Can Do" was amazing. The first take, first pass was the "keeper". Ed tried to double it. It wasn't until the 7th take until he came close. The solo is from the first pass.
@Gordfozzfoster I shook hands with the last 5 presidents. I have no factual documentation to support it but since I have made this statement it is no doubt legit. LOL. You get my point ?
@GOODY61 Michael McDonald did not play keyboards on 1984 and Eddie played all the keyboard parts on Balance. I have no clue of what I'm talking about. I retract everything I have said or will say. I know nothing. I just spout false information. There...happy?
what a great song, you know anything about new van halen, i am off work, and just sitting here, waiting so much for new van halen, any rumors, i heard one unreleased bit of a song, sounds great,
@SapphireSister Who want's to see Dave now? Me for one, I saw them on Credit Island, Davenport Iowa when they were relatively unknown. Dave was one of the best front men ever. VH never were as good again w/o Dave. Great still but, not that epitome. Give them a try. Dave was treated rather badly if you know VH history. I for one would like to see them rock again.
very rare footage because this is just when the main man left the band =)

He did NOT lip sync. There are a ton of variations between the original recording and this concert I can point out.

@Gordfozzfoster I'll check it out. If that is true then it is a fact not a rumour.
