I was taught to play the old time frailing banjo style by Dave "Stringbean" Akeman, back in 1964. Since then I have an act patterned after the old time singers like String, Grandpa Jones, etc. I can't flip the banjo like Uncle Dave did or wear the long shirt and short pants like String, but people remember the old songs and seem to appreciate my performances. Keep that old time music coming. You're doing a great job.
That's pretty cool! Those two really played with energy! Thank you for your compliments, they are really appreciated. I hope you have a great day, Brian
"Scratch (the devil, old Scratch) on the hillside rakin' up leaves".."Get my dog and let's go hunting, chase that rabbit out of town". Also love the line in Uncle Dave's Railroadin and Gamblin that says, "Get your feet outta the sand, stick 'em in the mud". That's an old square dance call that Dr. Humphrey Bates used to use on the Op'ry, but he reversed it and said, "Get your feet outta the mud, stick 'em in the sand". Great old timey lines.
You are quite a student of old time music! :) Uncle Dave was great, did you ever see that old Opry movie with Uncle Dave, Uncle Dave's son, and Roy Acuff along with other Opry stars performing Soldier's Joy? You can find it on Youtube as "Uncle Dave Macon In Grand Ole Opry" movie. Thanks for stopping by and commenting, and come back again soon, Brian
