@Matamune87 The knee at 2.45 is legal as it does not hits directly to the spine -which is all the the knockdown rules prohibits (you could ask if its so much better to target the kidneys, but. there you go). Shidokan allows more clinch than kyokushin, so that is not a problem either.
Shidokan has not had any stars in K-1 yet, but they have had a few minor names in opening fights, undercards and regional qualifiers. But since shidokan are fairly strong in european kickboxing (where most k1 superstars originate) outside of K-1, Im sure they will get a their top into k-1 soon too.
@kolsyrade you never will,it demands a more rounded figher and only a specialist kickboxer will do well in k1.You cant be elite level in every style simultaneously.
@billysue2 Never? Seidokaikan & kyokushin karate have had plenty of successful fighters in k-1. Current K-1 champion Semmy Schilt is ashihara karate. Shidokan belongs to the same family/group of karate, and is also well known for participating in kickboxing events -more so than kyokushin, seidokaikan or ashihara. So I do not see why you would think shidokan does not have the same level rounded fighters as its relative knockdown karate styles that are much LESS into kickboxing than shidokan is
@ChrisPayneable Yes, but he does not train it since very long, or it or use it much in competitions anymore (in his early fights you could easily see the kyokushin roots, though). Now he is more or less a grappler -although he was given a shidokan karate blackelt a few years ago, and trains with them occasionally (when not training with his regular stand up trainer since a few years, thaiboxing coach Phil Nurse).
i spent many years learning Shidokan. its a very endurace based martial art. all tho i give much credit to the muy thai boys out there, most shidokan knock outs are extreme as per the rules dictate certain standards and rules in fighting. aka rules on head shots/no gloves ect. i would MUCH rather fight a non shidokan than a shidokan fighter due tot he fact in a normal mix up match theres a chance you can walk away with no pain, after a shidokan match both of your are hurting.m.usually pretty bad
nice vid i want to learn more about Shidokan as i wanted to get back in a dojo and was thinking of doing Kyokushin but I just found out about Shidokan which seems ill, if you know how i can find a dojo near me or something that would really help =) ( I live in Brooklyn )
well, maybe its not as common in kyokushin as in shidokan since you are not allowed to grab and hold the head while kneeing it in standard kyokushin rules anymore. But if you look at the last shin-kyokushin world tournament, there were noticeable number of hiza geri KOs. maybe not a majority, but almost as many as mawashi geri KOs.

Matamune87 11 months ago
@Matamune87 the fist at 1.45 is a foul as it occurs during the bareknuckle knockdown rules rounds.

in the last K-1 Max, shidokan figter Yokoyama "GO" Tsuyoshi unfortunately lost the opening fight.
Shidokan fighter Makoto Uehara will (probably) fight a opening/superfight august 11 in the "final 16 qualifier" event in Tokyo.
So there are a few Shidokan fighters in k-1. Just not as many as from the seidokaikan, kyokushin or shin-karate organizations.

great KOs , most of them is heza geri ,which is strange
ahmednabil 4 years ago
why is it strange? Its a very powerful and very popular technique in every rule system that allows them.
kolsyrade 4 years ago
just never seen it that popular , imean about 90% of their ko's , which is good , its really a powerfull and effective kick.
