  • Brooks was ageless and timeless in photos!

  • One of the best love songs ever written.

  • i wish i could drop dead and meet louise right now....kiss her and hold her, nobody cant touch her, she's on my dreams since i was 13

  • Great video. What film is it where she was dressed as an androgynous tramp? 0:06

  • Superb in every way. Matching photos of Louise Brooks with You're the Top was inspired. I gave 5 stars. In my idea of Heaven, we'd all have an opportunity to hang with her. She's the greatest star that wasn't, due to the small mindedness of those who controlled the dominant culture in the US. I'm glad that she was 'found' in her later years. At least she didn't go out thinking she was totally unappreciated. I hope she realizes now, wherever she is, how much she is loved and appreciated.

  • I think G.W. Pabst was right when he said "There is no Dietrich, there is no Garbo. There is only Louise Brooks."

  • I think Henri Langlois said that.;) either way it is true.;)

  • Thank you. I'm sure you are right. Even as I was writing that, I was remembering that Pabst was a hugh Garbo fan and began to wonder about it myself.

  • @howardyearone Perfect! There is no one like her. She had her own amazingly lacquered and iconic look, style, and grace. And some of her movies (especially the European ones) were far more daring than anything being produced by Hollywood, even in it's "pre-Code" days.

  • what a great pairing --what a stunner was louise brooks --in gorgeous B & W --a-quintessential; industrial age babe ------- as for cole porter heart-rending to listen to this lyrical genius

  • I love Cole Porter and really love Louise Brooks, but the lyrics sent me to Wiki twice because I wanted to know the meaning of "your the nine(s)" and what makes cellophane the top.

  • Back then, cellophane was like a miracle substance, compared to wax paper. And so futuristic!

  • She was gorgeous and decades ahead of her time.

  • I enjoyed it too. The selection of pictures is wonderful.

    --------Ellen

  • God bless Louise .

  • I love this when they sing it "murder under the sun", the Peter Ustinov/Jane Birkin et alli Agatha Christie film... Diana Riggs and Maggie Smith sings it in one scene, it's hilarious. U gotta watch it.

  • Love the bit when Dianas sings -youre the smile on the Mona Lisa -,and Maggie walks by,giving a goofy, but sweet smile, much to Dianas chagrin.

  • A great video and great song! Love it!

  • Ahh...The music of Cole Porter and the exquisite Louise Brooks! I hope that's what greets me at the gates of heaven.

  • lol, the splicers go by and sing this song :P

  • Bioshock FTW!

  • bioshock

  • He's a worthless Czech? Or worthless check? lol

  • I know i always feels

like i'm from the 1920's or something

or like maybe was there in a past life

    same with the 70's

    and 40's

    haha but it's true

and i know i sound weird

but that's how i feel sometimes.

And maybe i warried to Johnny Depp too in a past life LOL

anyways sorry the last thing was a joke :]

  • Sung written and played by Cole Porter.

  • love the song !

  • Sounds stupid but i always feel like i belong in the 20s...maybe a past life, maybe too many old silent movies. Film was beautiful as were many of the stars like louise.

  • louise was so friggin cool...beautiful!

  • The "real" thing so great!

  • I was reminded of an episode of "Xena: Warrior Princess" where Lucy Lawless had her hair done in Louise Brooks style. She had a "signature" look.

  • Cole is the TOP

  • "You're an Arrow collar, you're a Coolidge dollar", now it's a "Clinton dollar", remember when?

  • Wait, these pictures are from the 20's, but the song is from '34. I know the two decades were a lot a like and some of the 20's culture went well into the 30's...but there were differences.

  • I don't think the person who made this video was going for historical correllation (sp?) between the song and images. I think the goal is to describe Louise as "the top".

  • Exactly!!!

  • Don't miss the breathtaking fade-away Louise at 1:42!

Artist Coles Phillips made a career doing fad-away images, often for commerical clients.

  • You're the purple light of a summer night in Spain.

    You're the National Gallery; you're Garbo's salary,

    You're cellophane!

It is almost impossible to hear lines like this and not smile.

  • i cant stop looking at her .

  • I love this song...

  • semplicemente divina...

  • In the end, she is remembered for her hair and her hairdo. How little we leave behind--even the most beautiful.

  • How true, 177Hender. The profound transience of life is never more evident than when viewing silent film--long passed personalities seem so vivid...so alive. Even such a powerful medium as film, can only be a flicker of the past, capturing only hints of the complexities of human experience. Sigh.

  • Beautifully said.

  • If I gave Louise Brooks and Cole Porter less than 5 stars it would be a crime.

    I absolutely love this. BRAVO!

  • you're the melody of a symphony by Strauss!

    Fabulous!

  • A beautiful collage. Louise Brooks will continue to be a muse for many for years to come. She was one of kind, and did things her own way, much to her financial detriment.

  • Cole Porter sings his own tune.

  • I know isn't it great...I love cole Porter!

    Blackbird :>

  • love the song

  • Very nice!

  • No doubt she was the top, thank you for posting a second slide show!

  • Yay!

    Cole plus Louise!!!

    Super!!!
