Laura's reaction is very odd. But maybe this was because she said she felt guilty, like she had asked for the rape in some way? I don't see how Genie and Tony considered this to be the scene when they knew Luke and Laura were in love. For one thing Luke already knew he was in love (he said so at the disco the night of the rape). Did Laura refuse to name him as the rapist because she knew she was in love with him? She does later say she was protecting him.
Thanks SO much for these scenes, lakb45. I remembered every detail of the rape scenes (I was 11 at the time, but some things stay with you), but not these after scenes. Very powerful and as you said, treasures in the L&L history.
Deranged is the word that comes to my mind. I surely didn't see this as the pivotal scene that Tony and Genie did . . . but I agree that there is much complexity. Glad you enjoyed seeing it. I think it's a real treasure that we can watch it so many years later.
wow Laura's reaction to Luke was creepy, scary and a little unsettling. Her need to act normal and the guilt and remorse in his face and body language. What a layered complex scene. And I never saw it before, my first time viewing, thanks for posting!
@CatchupGirl71 I don't think these scenes exist too many places, so I was very grateful to get them and be able to post them. They are treasures in the timeline of Luke and Laura history. Thanks for watching.
Laura is one of those daisies, strong but fragile. The way she looked up at Luke and said "nothing happened" tells a lot.
