Thorton is a Navy SEAL, who when his platoon was being overrun they made for the water running across open beach, and his LT Mr. Norris was shot and left on the beach, Mr. Thorton swam back to beach killed one or more Vietcong grabbed the LT and made for the water again. While doing so he was shot several times if I recall.
As a retired Detective now on my second career as a Firefighter, not much impresses me anymore. Not celebrities nor sports stars. Seeing that Medal Of Honor around his neck reminds me that I'm really not all that great. Respect. God created men like this so we firefighters could have heroes.
