Great song, remembering it's only meant to be just a " childrens song ". I saw a documentary once and the song writers originally wrote songs for " The Monkeys " tv show; and a guy stated the idea with " The Archies " was that they could make the song ( using session musicians ) without any " interference " or "answering back " / wanting to " change this - that " as this had happened with " The Monkeys " and it was very frustrating. They said " cartoons don't answer back ". Regards.
I heard he's in celebrity rehab. He had some rough years and got a little strung out, but is really making progress. Dr. Drew thinks he may even be able to get a new band going soon
One thing I noticed, even back in the day: at 2:19, Archie and Reggie are shown to be still strumming guitars, despite the fact that all the instruments except the percussion have dropped out of the soundtrack. One would think the show's producers could have caught this error.
wow... i like singing voice thingies better XD and also i REALLY like the voices of how i imagined them in my head when reading the comics... not the weird ones now XD

We didn't get the good cereals very often,if ever. When
my mom brought home the good stuff, the 5 of us polished it off in 5 minutes,So it was Quaker oats,Corn Flakes, puffed rice and some other puffed thing..there weren't toys or records involved..
Puffed - what dang scientist thought 'Just puff up some grain - kids'll eat anything.' Someone grim... strict ...and lacking taste buds. I'll bet my grade school teachers would've preferred me eating a lot less sugar. It's a miracle I'm not diabetic for years of that stuff...when they weren't afraid to call it Frosted Sugar Flakes or 'Super Sugar' Crisp. That was my early consumerism demand and I wielded it every grocery trip. To your point, my only Sister is 7 years older so no competition.
Did she? I missed that reference and I love the Simpsons! My Sister used to have a poster of Olivia Hussey and Leo Whiting in Romeo & Juliet above her bed (it was the farrah poster of her day) and I used to think that was Bobby Sherman.
So fun to see this again! I was a big Archies fan in the 2nd and 3rd grade and had the albums, cardboard records off the back of Super Sugar Crispsand of course, 45s. This was one of their last big charting hits. Thanks for posting!!
Man...... I totally forgot cutting out the records cereal boxes like Super Sugar Crisp after my mom bought a box! They really played on our record players to.The late 60's and early 70's are greatly missed on Saturday mornings.
I choked down SO much cereal for those records - Sugar Pops had 3 Jackson 5 hits, Bobby Sherman was on something like Apple Jacks... I can't remember what the Monkees came on but I had a few of those, too. Then there were the terrible ones - they were crap but you tried them anyways - The Sugar Bears on Super Sugar Crisp and the Halloween record with spooky Disney sounds of creaking footsteps, a door opening during a windstorm, thunder...
and the movie scream of some actress followed by moans and groans - the short version of the album you could ALSO buy. Funny how that tied in:> And that doesn't touch the toys, like the Quisp helicopter, Frankenberry pencil erasers and rubber band cars, terrarium with seeds or the mini ant farm where you sent away for ant eggs! SO much more cool than what they can get today.
Yeah..... I chocked on alot of cereal too! Your comments on the other cereal boxes and other prizes brought back great memories. Remember the better little toys that you had to collect and send in dozens of box tops to get!
You know, I remember collecting box tops... but not the prizes. I think one was a cheap a*s viewmaster... maybe a little plastic camera that was a squirt gun. Hot wheels? Decoder rings - glow inthe dark stuff, but those were in the box. Do you remember what you ordered?
If I remember correctly my first toy purchased through box tops was a plastic submarine that you put baking soda in, where it would sink and then rise up in the water. I also remember something to do with Ballon Racers!
There was a band from malaysia called BLACK DOG BONE had convert this song into malay language named 'Gadis Ayu'..pretty nice song though...keyo TAE 1900
My family took a road trip from Texas to L.A. in the summer of '72 with a portable record player and this is one of the singles we took along. (My sister and I would always look at each and giggle when it came to the part "Hey little girl let it show...")
@ashleytisdalefan66 That's because, back then, songs were about love, peace, and fun. Most music (I use the term loosely) today is about shooting each other, self indulgence, and hooking up with whores.
@Chawman Exactly the (if you can call it that) music today is the same irritating beat boom boom boom.growing up in the 1960s was such a happy fun time, not ashamed to say I am now 50 years old!
If you're a fan of The Archies, you'll probably like the fun and free weekly podcast, Echo Valley, which celebrates the great bubblegum music from the 1960's and 1970's! There's Archies music almost every week! Give it a try!
Cool 'toon, my sis had that record. Jughead in that black silhouette resembles Prince Charles as Mad Magazine once joked. Jughead's silhouette is cool. They later recycled Jughead on drums and used it on The Brady Kids for when Bobby played the drums, just like other scenes from The Archies and other shows.
ha! I used to watch this cartoon as a kid, cartoons were fun and happy then, loved the psychedelics too! - no wonder I liked pot when I got a little older! lol
The best Archies CD out now is 'Absolutely the Best of the Archies' released on Varese Sarabande Records. The sound is warm and detailed. Other labels that have released Archies material have been somewhat timid about opening up the audio equalization for fear you might notice the limitations of the analog recording process common to the era. Embrace the distortion! The aforementioned CD is righteous bubblegum pop at its very best!
That was trademark of all the early cartoons. To save money they would use the same backgrounds and reuse moves. Watch Speed Buggy, The Flintstones, Josie and the Pussycats - they all did it. If you were a smart kid you kid never figure out how they got the sounds of the song from the simple movements and 4 instruments.
i remember loving this song and the video when i saw it in Singapore 1970/71, still holds up, it's agreat series of hooks, the verses are even bettre than the chorus - shoulda been a massive hit and needs covering - as does Love Vibrations.
Sunshine es una de mis primeras canciones favoritas, yo miraba el programa de los Archies en Mexico desde niño y me trae gratos recuerdos.

Groovy!

Lol i wish they'd had some other animations for all their songs. They gang's always doing the same few movements.Ah well great song anyway!
monkeylad44 4 years ago
That was trademark of all the early cartoons. To save money they would use the same backgrounds and reuse moves. Watch Speed Buggy, The Flintstones, Josie and the Pussycats - they all did it. If you were a smart kid you kid never figure out how they got the sounds of the song from the simple movements and 4 instruments.

worked around it.

i remember loving this song and the video when i saw it in Singapore 1970/71, still holds up, it's agreat series of hooks, the verses are even bettre than the chorus - shoulda been a massive hit and needs covering - as does Love Vibrations.
jonvin777 4 years ago
The Archies just aren't the same since Jughead died!!!
