Time to unwind this mess. I do not know if the USA can realistically escape the "socialist" title anymore. Let see, we prop up Amtrak, USPS, Many Airlines, Fan- Fred to name a few. Then we have a ponzi scheme name Social Security. Medicare and Medicaid are two programs that have huge future obligations they cannot meet, oh I guess they can by printing more debt. Am I supposed to consider this a serious country? Oh, let's not forget the constant globetrotting missions the military is always on.
Are these speakers on drugs? Didn't they read the Governor of New York's letter. Elliot Spitzer's letter was printed in the Washington Post on 2/14/08. Look it up! I dare you!
Republicans and Dems both agree to bail out large corporations( Bear Stearns, Fannie and Freddie) for without this help they agree we are screwed. This is not a party line issue (necessarily) but certainly not a matter of socialism.
Im a conservative. This Fannie and Freddie bailout is worse than socialism, its socialism for the rich. Privatized profits, socialized losses. We need a revolution. Neither McCain or Obama is going to give us one. Just more partisan bullshit 2 sides of the same coin thing.
Amen- This crap about, Ohh Obama's gonna fix it, yeah right he hasn't fixed anything in his whole life-
And oh how great Palin and McCain are... Can anyone say Savings and Loan...? Remember folks McCain was indicted in the S&L Scandals of the mid '80's...
So you're right 'Sclorched' "Yeah- the government has control" you see how well the government handles stuff... Katrina-anybody, Viet-Nam, Oil, Security, Economy, they can't do their jobs... Duhh and they never have... Not since Teddy R.
I agree. You got the idiots for Obama and the idiots for McCain each saying thier candidate is better. Nothing will change other then who our puppet masters will be for the next 4 years.
Thet were called the Keating 5 and Mccain was completely exonerated with no unethical or illegal acts. The other 4 were all DEMOCRATS and 3 were found to be engagedin unethical and suspect acts. get your facts straight idiot and do some research.
McCain was conveniently exonerated, I remember. and who gives a damn anyway? My point was that people get what they deserve when they vote for the Democrats or the Republicans. There is no difference between the two parties. They both want to strip us of our liberty. Your use of an Ad Hominem attack is very tacky, The S&L may appear as a red herring to you, but it was very real to those who lost their life savings, at the hands of a national war hero.
Free corporate rein/reign has equaled an unregulated mess. Thanks to all the so called 'freemarket' neocon repugnicans. They had their fun no we all suffer for it just like their corporate rape of the taxpayers with their bogus war in Iraq.
We are all suffering for it while the super rich get richer. Bush has done well for his corporate cronies MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
Fred and Fannie are not free market corporations, they are gov. chartered and run by gov. appointees. Clinton appointees (Raines, Johnson (was a Obama adviser), Gorelick, and others)overstated earnings to trigger bonuses that totaled over $245 in five years. Their salaries, gold parachutes, and other perks are above and beyond any other corporation.
Enron overstated earnings by $550 Million, these guys overstated by $11 Billion!
Who has been in the White House the past 8 years, and could have corrected a [pure] democrat mess? Instead, as of two days ago, yet another scandal, on Bushes watch? Or, is he not to blame for his subordinates?
Actually, they have ousted a number of these clowns, but the ship of failure already sailed
However, Bush is responisble for the bailout, which IMO will be a monumental failure
Not all of a previous presidents appointees are replaced, many stay. Bush didn't replace enough of Clinton's goons, which is another failure for Bush, but they are Clintons goons and not much can be said against that.
Also note Gorelick is a catalayst for FUBAR situations. FBI/CIA wall = 9/11 & 9/11 commission!
Actually Fannie did fine UNTIL the free market was allowed to stick a toe in the door. The Republican and their DLC pals deregulated further, leading to this. It's not a democrat mess period, it's a deregulation mess, period.
The feds let the housing bubble to start. It is their fucking job to stop these things from occuring. It is done by design. They are up to something. Police State? NWO? who knows

so, let me get this straight - republicans believe that helping the working class is socialism, but bailing out a corporation is not?
hornraiser 3 years ago
While we had our attention on Iraq, our country went seriously socialistic where the government now owns and runs a huge mortgage company.
Mutual funds and banks were the big buyers in Fannie & Fred. These investors are sitting on worthless stock.
The ones who were foreclosed lost their investment and credit rating.
But the owners, whoever they are, were reimbursed for their worthless mortgage loan.
Huh?
But as long as we dfont hive health care to the poor , we will be OK.

and they will still vote for 4 more with McCain.
The greatest conjob since Nixon.
Nixon would salivate if he saw what mission Bush accomplished.
But they did fight the minimum wage increase.
How many trillions have we borrowed from the Chinese, and what is the long range consequence of this?
What happens if they call up the loan?
