this is probably one of the darkest adaptations of the novel.. it is very true to the novel ass well.. (although, when you think about it, all of the versions are very close to the novel)
I'm thankful that you put this up (most depictions I've found so far of this scene omit the "claw" portion and instead skip immediately to the reveal), but the quality is so utterly worthless. It looks like you recorded this with a camcorder.
I agree with the majority of people on the engy and frightening tone of this scene. I saw it the theaters and it scared me for a good month. At least Scrooged was subtle with its scares
@gothichyppie Not all Disney has to be happy. Look at Night at Bald Mountain, Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Black Cauldron. Those are freaky movies but are still Disney.
Can anybody explain this part of the movie? I didn't get it. I mean, why did he just like, die like that? He was a jolly cool guy but then he's all RAWRR
@heartlessman554 Since he is the ghost of x-mas 'Present' he can not live into the future. He comes back every year, but dies at x-mas. The original book explains this.
1:16- 1:44 is great. I've never seen any other version of 'A Christmas Carol' include that, yet it's so powerful; Scrooge's own words from earlier are turned against him, as he sees the sort of future his heartless ways would bring about for countless desperate, needy people. I've always felt, in any version of the story, that the Christmas Present scene is when he truly begins to change, and this scene helps demonstrate that perfectly.
@alanna21472 But the point of Christmas isn't spending money. Although modern commercialism might make it seem that way, just spending time with family and friends is enough. Remember what Scrooge said about Fezziwig:
"He has the power to render us happy or unhappy; to make our service light or burdensome; a pleasure or a toil. The happiness he gives, is quite as great as if it cost a fortune.''
I keep watching this scene even though it's so creepy. This version did a great job with how dramatic the scene with Ignorance and Want should be. "Are there no prisons?!" "Are there no workhouses?!" Showing how twisted they'd grow up to be makes it more intense :O
The only thing I didn't like was the Ghost of Christmas Spirit dying painfully like that. He's a spirit, so I think he should fade out or something, not laugh as a skeleton O_O.
The symbolism is perfect and goes along very well with the book but I'm not sure if young kids really understand what is being displayed here. Not everything has to be Mickey and Donald, I understand that but creators have to remember what kind of audience is going to be more drawn to this movie. This was showing for free at my job and 85% percent of people with families left with crying kids because they were scared.

Disney just tagged their name on the title because this is in no way a Disney movie, way too sober and way too creepy, as this scene shows!

@heartlessman554 he only lives on Christmas so the ringing to the 26 is his death toll. In other versions he just disappears or fade into the wind.
I guess the director want to add a touch more creepiness to it
that scene alone would turn this into a Halloween movie
