To be honest, if you're using a hollowbody with high gain, unless you get some really low output pickups (and if you like a high gain sound, probably not a great idea) then you're always going to get feedback. Only thing you can do is buy some kind of noise gate, and I'd imagine Tim probably uses one live (though I dont know) you can get some fairly cheap feedback surpressors, either rackmount or stompbox, have a look around.

lol, tim never plays, thats kind of his gimmick. Tim really only plays on their records. Lars does the guitar playing live. With exceptions for songs like radio and such. But yah, tim uses the guitar as a prop, i guess u could say.
