@DoNultima Zydrunas had a massive injury after 06 which put him out for the best part of two years. Honestly you should show more respect to these guys. Pudzianowski was a hero of mine until he was caught taking banned substances. Plus both are very different athletes. Mariusz is a modern day strong man which requires all three aspects of fitness (strength, endurance and flexibility) where as Zydrunas is pure strength and power. Both deserve respect!

of course he couldn't, no one can. Benedikdt Magnusson deadlifted over 1100 pounds at the Arnold recently and he hasn't deadlifted more than 970 pounds. In powerlifting you can't use wrist straps, that's a profound difference because grip is the weakest link in the deadlift, that's why they lift more here. This is still very impressive though, you're right.

Agreed on all points, but there are at least four more advantages: 1/ Tires are taller than plates. Higher bar. Shorter, easier ROM. 2/ Longer bar bends a lot. Tires don't come up as a single unit. Lift starts lighter. Full weight is only being lifted at advantaged end position. 3/ Bent bar causes the end tires to not come up as far. Less foot-pounds. Less work done per pound. 4/ Tires are softer tanplates. Lifter can push down for a subtle pre-stretch advantage. Impossible with plate DLs.

Definitely have to agree with you on that one. My max was 500lbs on the deadlift, but once I switched to doing partials in the cage, my max went up to 600+. Obviously that was for training purposes only. I couldn't, in all rationality, call that a true deadlift because as you stated, the range of motion is far less.
