  • This is pure sacrilage. Absolutely annoying. How can this relaxed, meaningful music fit with this over-the-top scene at all?

This is like basting chicken hot wings with milk chocolate. It doesn't work.

  • That was excellent!!

  • I can't be the only one surprised that it hasn't got cartoony flames painted all over the warp nacelles and furry dice hanging over the captain's chair...

  • The ship looks like someone's hood ornament, I despise this version of the classic Enterprise.

  • How dare you sully good Trek music with this Abramsverse crap. That ship looks horrible.

  • @SirKalon

I agree with your opinion with regards to the ship, however the above clip was to act as a mood builder and it indeed shows the strenght of such a wonderful timeless score...

  • @Rekreated1 No. The above clip only fouls the music.

  • gave me goose bumps

  • two words:

    lens flare

  • All of you admit the truth!

    THIS MOVIE SUCKED FERENGI ASS!

  • @Actionguy1 Irksome lens flare aside, I didn't think it was too bad.

  • @Actionguy1 ...but previous films just prove that there's no lasting damage. ST11 had virtually no dramatic effect, because Spock could just time travel into the future and work again on the Romulan star, or just blow up the crazy Romulan's ship before it meddled with the past.

    ...

  • @unnamednewbie13 Not with the timeline as it is now. I believe Spock Prime would have to enlist Q's help to get back to the prime timeline.

  • @PeachWookiee Maybe, but he still has memory of his future past. Sounds like something that would fit nicely into a two-parter episode with a bunch of technojargon about locating the correct temporal frequency.

Reversing the damage done by time travel presents an ethical dilemma. Does Spock return to the future and save the Romulan world and lives in the past, but also alter the newly-created timeline in such a manner as to potentially undo circumstantial births and other lives?

  • @unnamednewbie13 If you argue from the POV that timelines aren't really destroyed and continue on, then perhaps Spock sees it that way.

  • @Actionguy1 There is nothing about truth or lies here. And this movie was awesome.

  • You guys ever see those Trek parodies, where they intentionally make the Enterprise look all out of proportion, bulbous and askew, so they don't violate copyrights? THAT is what this new one looks like!

  • Man, the music is ruined to this movie... if the Enterprise looked closer to the Enterprise of this era, heck, even in the mirror universe the Enterprise wasn't this radically altered.

  • That space station is right out of Ed Wood's "Plan 9 From Outer Space"! LOL!

Abrams has never had an original idea in his weird little jittery, stuttering life!

  • Excellent Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack!

    Ugly Enterprise, shitty, ridiculous movie!

  • Well done!!!!

  • Now see... *this* is the kind of Enterprise that you can take to the local drive-in and be proud of. Especially when the pretty yeoman skates over on her rocket boots to take your order. Kirk could use a little more Brylcreem, though.

  • I don't give a crap what they say, this ship is awesome, maybe not the real mccoy, but still a great looking ship

  • This music has the exact weight and size to the material, it's a perfect match! Good Job!

  • tout simplement génial, ah les fondamentaux, du pure bonheur

  • Great! Great theme (the beginning) part for if James Kirk was to throw-up on Mcoy. LOL

  • Kind of cool. But been there done that, I get off on this music when watching TMP, but for the 2009 Trek, I like the music that they did.

  • The music highlights what was actually great about TMP, and what sucked about this scene in ST09.

People make fun of the scene from the original (and yes, it was very long) but the thing was - Kirk loves his ship. It's a love affair. He's misty eyed at seeing it again.

You don't feel that in ST09, because he flies past it once looking like a dope, and it's over in 20 seconds. Onto the stupid physical comedy.

  • @Zebonka I would like to call you an idiot. But I won't. In TMP, the Enterprise had already been Kirk's. And he lost it (his own fault). Then he see's it again, refit and beautiful. One of my favorite ST scenes EVER, and not ever made fun of as far as I know.

Totally different in the 2009 Trek. Kirk is seeing the Enterprise for the first time in space and realizing what it MIGHT mean to command her. How is he "looking like a dope"?

If you haters can't stand it, stop making videos about it.

  • Of course it's a different scenario; it still suffers by comparison though. The original scene is usually one of the things people like to pick on (in relation to a lot of the long sequences in TMP). Granted, that's 30 years of commentary and reviews you'd have to look through for specific examples, but knock yourself out - the scene has been lampooned before. (Usually by people with short attention spans).

  • Just a note, here - anyone who uses the word 'hater' (especially against someone who doesn't hate the movie in question) does more to qualify for the Idiocy Olympics than I ever have. I've given the '09 movie a lot more of a chance than some assholes I know, and I give credit where it is due.

  • Sorry, but even the late, great Jerry Goldsmith's beautiful compositions couldn't save this steaming pile of a movie.

  • Jerry Goldsmiths soundtrack definitely should have been used he took the Alexander courage opening fanfare and attached a far superior theme to it!

  • There is no life in this enterprise. its just two colors white-grey and blue.

the reason everybody loved the original ships is beside the over sized dish and bubbly nacelles of the new one.

The old ones, had a flesh tone to them in some form, it made it seem more like a great being of the adventures. you always cared about the enterprise and her crew, NOW you just Care about her Crew, LOL

  • I wish Jerry Goldsmith were still alive. He does Star Trek beautifully.

  • This is exactly the sound track that should have been in the new movie. it's what let the whole thing down for me the fact they didn't use Jerry Goldsmiths original 'Enterprise' theme! nice edit!

  • I perfer the old refit enterprise to the new one, And the sound track is 100 times better then what was in the 09 star trek

  • Fugly fugly ship!!

  • It matches so beautifully! I had tears in my eyes as they arrived.

Star Trek 2009 wonderfully melded the brisk pace of TWOK with the larger-than-life scope of TMP.

  • good job. it fits well since this scene is a little reference to the scene in TMP that this song was from.

  • @fmscribs Someone made the comment that tkis faux Enterprise looked like a Contitution Class starship on steroids. I laughed in their face!

It looks more like a Constitution Class overdosed with estrogen, given those "swollen boobie" like nacelles!

    Hideous redesign!

  • @Actionguy1 Have you seen this one, it looks so much better: thenewestmovie[dot]com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/57655_big.jpg

  • @Actionguy1 I blame obnoxious fanboys for putting the state that the franchise is in today. The fact that they constantly bitch and moan among themselves over what is and isn't "canon" the way they nitpick over every single thing that they perceive is wrong with a show or movie, and they way they bash anybody who feels differently about said show or movie, has ruined the franchise. When you chase off all the new fans who come along, don't bitch when the fandom starts to suffer.

  • Okay this version of "The Enterprise" music cue is different than the one I've got (and sounds infinitely better). Which soundtrack release did this come off of? Or, more simply, could you possibly send me an MP3 of the complete cue?

  • that shuttle bay was way bigger than the STO. But still a nice warp7.5 ship :)

  • Beautiful, sir, Beautiful

  • JJ Abrams of Star Trek and Christopher Nolan of Batman Begins are somewhat the same. They both took Iconic Franchises and rebooted them very well. They both made big mistake by not taking the wonderful musical score from the old films and applying them to their reboot.

  • @Mah81

You are absolutely correct! The directors were rebooting much-loved movie epics but forgot that it was the music that was partly responsible for their 'mystique". full marks to lakkons92 for skilfully editing the old TMP score into this scene. Oh...and for my money...this is one of the finest pieces of music Jerry ever wrote!

  • @Mah81 JJ Abrams did nothing but screw up something that there was nothing wrong with in the first place. He has nowhere near the talent or class of Mister Christopher Nolan, nor will he ever. Abrams has proven he's no film director. He needs to stick with being an "adequate" TV producer and leave film making and Star Trek to people who know what they're doing.

His flunkies Orci and Kurtzman are talentless hacks too!

  • I love it! You know I was hoping someone would upload a video like this and it's perfect! Thank you, and good job.

  • Beautiful!

  • :') The music just fits so well....

  • defintely made me smile.

  • Another design flaw of this ship. Why would any naval architect design a hanger deck with HUGE FREAKING SUPPORT BEAMS in the flight path? {See 1:06 -on}

Not to mention if they just made the rear section of this secondary hull with a few more decks they could have stowed all the other shuttles out of the way and underneath like a modern day aircraft carrier or like the original Enterprise did. One accident on that deck & they loose them all.

To JJ & company. Don't try to reinvent the wheel.

  • @fmscribs well how else are they going to fit 20 shuttle crafts in such a tiny space. The new enterprise carries 4 times the shuttle load as the prime universe enterprise did.

  • fellas, fellas.

    Both soundtracks are kickass.

It's just a fact, star trek has awesome music.

Except for Faith of the Heart, but we're not mentioning that.

  • @vp21ct: You just did! :P

  • No joke- this vid literally brought a smile to my face!

Great scene with either soundtrack, but well done on this!

  • A nice way to connect this to the scene from TMP where Kirk and Scotty are in the shuttlepod and see the refitted NCC-1701

  • The TMP scene this is from made me cry.

  • @JonathanSolana: I saw The Motion Picture for the first time (since I was almost too little to remember) on my sixteenth birthday. I heard that theme and immediately thought TNG.

They really should have got the rights to play some of these scores for The Next Generation! :D

  • @JonathanSolana Not only you xD

  • It's Ok. BUt I Actually Love the New Soundtrack. I've been doing the oppisite of you and adding the New Soundtrack to the Old Stuff. It actually works Better.

  • Makes that scene so much better!! First time ive watched any part of that movie and had the hairs on my neck stand up!!

  • is there the full scene on youtube?

  • the original enterprise was sexy- this shit looking ship l00ks like something outta an interstellar toilet bowl

  • Wow this was really great. I thought the music from the new film was awesome. The problem is that movies today are so fast, scenes zoom by in a flash and composers have had to adapt their music accordingly. The space opera is no longer as viable simply because the long shots of a floating ship are no longer the standard. Look at the original movie scene this came from and you'll understand what I mean.

  • Well there's a reason why they called it "The Slow Motion Picture"

  • The 'slow motion' aspect, as you call it, was one of the things that made the movie for me. Of course, I was a hardcore Trekkie back when I first saw the scene this music is from.

  • OK, what Trek music re-make album did this music come from? It's BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • It's the track "the Enterprise", from TMP. Thank you!

Sorry for my bad english, im'italian! :)

  • @Iakkons92 Well dude, I got the 30th Anniversary CD from TMP, and this is definitly NOT the original credit. Dont know where its from but plz write me a private message if you still online in tube ato send it to me.

  • @Iakkons92 But this isn't the studio recording from the original TMP soundtrack. It sounds different; it must be from a different conductor and/or orchestra

  • Bellissimo.

    grazie

  • Grazie a te!

  • My only complaint about the film was the music. It was good, but didnt really have a trek feel to it. Thanks for this!

  • Music didn't really have a Trek feel to it? Really? You're kidding....

  • It's pretty true. Other than than the brief second or two once or twice through the movie where you hear a few notes of the actual theme, it was generic action music that could have been in almost any movie. Not that is wasn't bad! Just a little more trek-styled would have been better!

  • It Was Very Trek Styled. How many Damn Composers have there been for Star Trek? Star Trek 4 & 6 were not very good in my eyes. I Wish Horner could have done all of the Trek music from Star Trek II and up. My Favorite Trek Composers Are James Horner & The New Sound Track By Michael Giacchino. His Soundtrack is almost like a new Take on The James Horner Grand Sound Scape.

  • It's just opinions. Some people felt it was, some people felt it wasn't. There's no arguing about it either way, either you liked it or you didn't!

  • just beautiful
