This was A great Intro. For A great Beatles Tune.. But it got push a side and never got figured out what to do with it... I like the end of the song with Paul coming back in singing and playing with the pitch up and down . . Plus This song reminds me of the Italian Nathanial anthem ??
The keyboard melody makes this sound innocent and whimsical, this could be the soundtrack to a childhood montage video. The bright, colorful guitars bring up the images of fun, happiness and easy-goingness.
A great track to listen while driving across a country side, because of its closeness to the image of a playground...
@depechemodevilla It's also the opening music to Geoff Lloyd's Hometime show on Absolute Radio; as a result it makes me think of everyone going home from work on the bus on a sunny day!
This song is similar to "The Ballad of John and Yoko," they have the same bass riffs, and the main riff to this song is a similar harmonized Mexican-influenced riff to the end of TBoJaY. I think Paul really liked that song (Paul and John slapped it together from John's lyrics in a few hours), and Paul probably thought he could expand on it. I think he did a good job.
If anyone else came up with a melody as catchy as this they'd make a full 4 minute song out of it with lyrics and everything, and release it as a single and it would go to #1.
Paul was such a genius something like this was just a throwaway for him.
does anyone remember many years ago when the popeye cartoon would come on around 3 pm, this song was played as the intro but sped up to twice the speed! i lived in ny then (i'm talking 30+ years ago) but i remember that like it was yesterday.
I agree with the person who asked why Paul didn't include all of Suicide on this excellent album. When I close my eyes, and listen to this, during the "Hot as Sun" part, i imagine myself all alone on a beach.Near the end of Part one I Imagine that i'm walking right into a desert, and when "Glasses" starts, i'm walking through there, and I walk right past Paul singing those way too few "Suicide" words.
dig your perception maan, you're perspective is interesting and ... right! glasses is a really weird interlude, it really reminds me of the bit at the end of cry baby cry, before Revolution 9 begins when macca sings "can you take me back"
You know, when you have written "She's Leaving Home", "Fool On the Hill", "Yesterday", "The Long and Winding Road" and countless other classics, you don't have to be brilliant all the time. Take "I Will". Nothing clever about it, but it's just very sweet and pleasant to listen to.
@bunchie1966 no, I WILL was very clever and has complicated recording structure including paul playing bass with his mouth. its a love he's never met and he loves her and will wait for her to meet him. lastly who says he wasnt brilliant all the time - green onions is one of the most well known 60's songs and its an instrumental piece. just think please.
This guitar/keyboard instrumental is Hot as the Sun and the cool wineglasses bring the song to a suspenseful ending which Paul abruptly sings and I always wish this song would have been completed. Awesome Sgt. Pepper material on a solo album!
Thanks Faul, great little tune!

To me, atleast, "Hot as Sun/Glasses" and "Momma Miss America" have more character than George Harrison's "Apple Jam"

I like the "Glasses" part of the song where he's playing an assortment of crystal glasses. Sounds really eerie.
