Although only the great places like Sydney or Melbourne get about three or four conventions a year. It's popular here, but America has a larger population, more states and a larger opportunity for anime conventions.

Thats because they can order them at china. XD In America people make their own costume, which explains the crappy craftmanship. Of course some americans do order them already made costume. Hell I do. But for the most part the japanese and the rest have cosplay stores where they already have the costumes, so they concentrate more on losing weight and trying to look like the character as much as possible than sitting down and make the damn thing themselves.
