I realize a lot of "classic rock" fans don't really care much for Prince. Some of his music in the 90's and beyond wasn't wildly popular. BUT anybody who loves good ole rock classics simply MUST gain some respect for Prince after watching that incredible display of guitar skill. Prince is, in my opinion, one of the top ten guitarists out there today.
For the ppl sayin they can do better or know someone who can than show me, put up a video response showing someone do the same song and let me see if it's better. Everybody can say they better but I wanna see it! Until that day shut up, stop hating and give Prince his props!
It's like song didn't start even Prince started playing. The best part is where he just walked off the stage at the end...like it was nothing. Deuces! But in truth that was a boring song.
Prince is never given enough credit with his guitar playing. and I don't care who you are, that shit were he fell back with the guy catching him was some smooth shit and anyone disagreeing is just hating lol
the lead was just ok.. some quick pentatonic scales a couple of blue notes with bends, a few trills & hammer on's... average at best.... blah, blah, blah. Prince has better pieces.
@zmardot i been a fan since 81 and seen him i dont know how many times and to me this was the best one i ever seen him do atleast thats what i remeber thinking the night i saw this
@dalstar925 LOL !! I know, I know..I don't even talk like that. lol. It was fun to see that little bit of prince ( I'm not a fan) ...cmon tho... Tom Petty was up there ( he Bad ) , and like others have said.. there where plenty other there who can make their ax sing and bend at their every whim ...but I don't hate on Prince... He was BAD !!! ....as in good.
Apart from the "who's best" issue, there's one thing that Prince lacks, which is restraint. Probably always will, as he is used to be top boss in his own turf. This wasn't the case, and in his eagerness to show off, he overdid it all not keeping to the flawless dialogue between song and instruments the others were doing.
It may have been unintentional, but it was a bit disrespectful and instead of showing his qualities as a performer, he revealed he is not able to fit in.
everyone on the stage could have done the same thing but chose not to. as could the original soloist back in 68. but chose not to. if you know guitar, you know all flash and no substance when you see it.
Prince IS cocky, but that's why we love him! He's knows damn well that he's a bad muthafucka. Shit, we're still talkin' about him 30 years after he stepped on the scene! he must be doin something right. I'm a member of about 25 different Prince fan pages on fb! His fam is loyal. most of the people u see at a Prince concert has been 2 multiple Prince concerts. True entertainer. The more u get, the more u want. His talent is UNDENIABLE and he knows it. Self confidence is way sexy!
I already knew Prince was a badass on the guitar. But damn that was good. It was almost like he was saying "every time you guys sing, I'm starting over."
@adj7388 So true. As a guitarist, I thought the same thing. Then I remembered everything Prince does (dress, image, etc) is over the top. He's just born that way I guess. It certainly makes for incredible entertainment. But let's not forget, he got to where he is because of his relentless drive and discipline for music and his natural talent. (message to self: natural talent alone won't get you there)
y is no one getting the irony in his cocky exit?!!^^
prince always had that irony about him...
people are too serious about themselves...so it's common for them to see that same attitude in every other person even when it's more about a parody of that attitude and fun
Prince is okay, a good showman. But his playing is average here. Sorry, but I do play guitar very well and this was good showmanship with all the face contortions, but the playing was okay. Nothing grand.
Prince is okay, a good showman. But his playing is average here. Sorry, but I do play guitar very well and this was good showmanship with all the face contortions, but the playing was okay. Nothing grand.
Prince is probably you're favorite guitarist's favorite guitarist. Amazed at folks who don't give credit for an amazing solo. The Purple One entered the hall that night and played one of the greatest solos EVER in tribute to a great song that artists love to play. If you can't give credit for one of the greatest solos? Then you're a HATER. Better yet, post a better one. And the comments about bravado...please, it's rock and roll.
The Attitude Song, you're not listening...the composition matched the lyrcal subject absolutely perfectly...I love Hendrix...but i never heard him make a guitar laugh. ....these guys love Hendrix and have buillt their styles using his discoveries as a spring board to. Jimi was a great pioneer who spawned ideas to budding youn players and they eventually moved past his abilities.....
thanks for the response, but you couldn't be more off baseOne would have to be dead not to hear the emotion and feeling in "Cool #(9 by Satriani. who by the way is guitar teacher to the stars and is a staunch student of Jim Hendrix.
Wow. Haven't seen this in awhile. Jaw-dropping. Prince really sounds a lot like Santana in a lot places in the solo. Everyone complains about the way Prince exited the stage. I think it was kinda funny in a way. What was he supposed to do after burning up like that? Stand and smile?
And yes, seeing Dhani standing behind Prince like that is just awesome in so many ways.
Great solo, no doubt, and ego to boot. I don't think he added to the spirit of the event though. He seemed to nearly miss the ending by playing more licks and then throws and goes like it was about him! I'll probably get flack for this but that was my impression the very first time that I saw this.
This is, without a doubt, a great solo and was impressive - but not the 'greatest'. Stevie Ray probably got my vote on his live version of "Voodoo Chile".
Eric Clapton was asked who he was the best guitarist out right now this was in the last 80's he said prince but rolling stones don't even say anything about him in there top guitarist go figure
Lol, i was asking the same shit, i was like "holy shit that guitar might hurt someone" and then i was like "where the fuck is the guitar", shit vanished into thin air.
look...i love this. it's quality stuff. but you're problem was being ridiculous to call it the greatest guitar solo ever. it may be the best that you've ever heard...but that's not our problem. i'll give you two solo's to educated your brain....."The Attitude Song" played by Steve Vai and Mile Kenealy (both Zappa proteges); and Joe Satriani's "Cool #9". you can find them right here on youtube. just give them a listen and see what the best sounds like and then go up from there.
@allgdpple You're argument has merit in the technical sense. The issue is in popular music it's about taste pure and simple. Vai, etc., are all great technical guitar players, but I rarely hear anything by them that makes me 'feel' anything. Such is life when it comes to music. Prince is the closest thing to Jimi Hendrix alive and breathing today. It's not about how fast you can play. It's about what are you saying with the notes.

FUCK PRINCE
@mayhski im angry cause he shit all over such a beautiful song. your loose ass girlfriend might be persuaded by a faggot ass egomaniac. my girl is the shit, she'd never stray :) you probably dont even have a girlfriend punk
@solargesture True, but i in my book some artist playing a great guitar solo on one of the most boring songs ever isn't a reason to get angry. If you want to get angry search on: 'shook me all night long' and click the second hit (celine dion), that IS something to get angry about. All the more reason i don't go there...
What is the point of asking one of the world's biggest stars to play lead guitar, and then singing over the top of it? How irritating. No wonder he threw the thing
@OjackironsO Like all greats, they take other people's style and incorporate their own to create something very unique that belongs only to them. But the three you mention all play very soulfully, they make you feel every note.
I'm a major Harrison and Prince fan. This really is amazing.

@solargesture True, but i in my book some artist playing a great guitar solo on one of the most boring songs ever isn't a reason to get angry. If you want to get angry search on: 'shook me all night long' and click the second hit (celine dion), that IS something to get angry about. All the more reason i don't go there...

@mayhski fuck off where do you get off telling at what i can get angry about, fuck you, now youre just trolling bitch

What is the point of asking one of the world's biggest stars to play lead guitar, and then singing over the top of it? How irritating. No wonder he threw the thing

When Prince is onstage, everybody else is backing him up - and I do mean everybody. Here is my case in point.

Jimi, Prince and SRV, same style? Any other?
OjackironsO 1 month ago
@OjackironsO Like all greats, they take other people's style and incorporate their own to create something very unique that belongs only to them. But the three you mention all play very soulfully, they make you feel every note.
