Interesting on how so many people profess to be Christian, yet they continuously tell their children for centuries that some fictional character named Santa Claus exists and brings they presents on Christmas. My parents told me growing up that if I didn't go to bed, they weren't going to put the presents that THEY bought me under the tree! Christmas NEVER lost it's magic, and it made me appreciate everything my parents ever gave me or did for me.

Wow. Get over yourself. Believing in Santa as a kid didn't cause me to lose my faith in Christ nor assume my parents always lied to me. If you don't want to deal with Santa, fine. But you're not going to convince people to your position with that holier-than-thou attitude.

I never said I was "holier than thou", but some kids take it horribly when they find out he never existed, and to me, it's just a lie that never had to be told in the first place. I think it was cute what you did with the presents and everything, but having an older child who believes in a fictional character like that, I had a friend who believed in it til she was 16! When she was told the truth, she was horrified. I'm just giving my viewpoint. Take it or leave it.

Well never fear. My "older child" hasn't believed in Santa for 4 years - and her faith in Christ or trust in us wasn't shattered when she found out. The Santa thing is for my younger one. And he'll understand soon enough.

Even if you believe or don't believe in God, Christmas and Santa is all about family and caring for others. It doesn't matter that Santa is fictional. If you don't like going with Santa then use Saint Nicholas as a non-fictional example.

Thank you for your concern, but I don't plan on telling my future kids about Santa or Saint Nick. I'll just tell them, like my parents did, that I brought them the presents. Maybe it will be more creative than what most people do, and it won't be on my conscious if my son/daughter finds out there's no such thing. Some kids don't take it lightly when they find out he doesn't exist.
