My mom and Auntie had a lot of Godfrey's records. Many are better forgotten, except this one and "Gone Fishin'." This song I have characterized as the saddest song I know, but still a good listen. and let's face it, what person who has made a monumental mess of his life wouldn't trade in a million tomorrows for one yesterday, the day of his biggest mistake so he could undo it?

Both Godfrey and this song are just about completely forgotten today...too bad. This tune got a good play around the country but just sort of laid there after the initial popularity. The lyrics were written by Milton Berle! It is one of my favorite waltzes.

My Grandpa played this song for me and lip-synced the lyrics in 1955 when I was a 10 year old boy. I'll never know why, but I burst out crying. For some reason, the song melted and broke my heart. It's been 55 years since I heard it and although it doesn't make me cry now, it brings back a nostalgic, tender time with my Grandpa.

Love this song! I remember his radio show, it was in the early 60's, and he was on the tail end of his career. I loved the man he was unique in a a day of cookie-cutter entertainers. He said what he thought, and sometimes it cost him.
