  • great song, wish the classic rock stations wouldn't ignore this song, at least XM plays this on the "Classic Rewind" station

  • All those parties with friend's over, spinning the Kansas albums on the turntable!! At times it doesn't seem all that long ago. Who am I kidding, it was 30+ years.

  • LONG LIVE '70s PROGRESSIVE ROCK!

  • I love how they have so many different styles...Compare this to Hold On, then compare both to Paradox.

  • I guess it's considered Progressive Rock...

  • And they're not in the R&R Hall of Fame? ABUSRD!

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you...ROCK & ROLL!!

  • they will be at the nc state fair in october

  • My favorite Kansas song....

Takes me back to that time of my life when i was 19 and feeling sad as i realized that me and my friends were drifting apart and fading away...They were my people of the south wind...Nothing would ever be the same again...And i was ill prepared to face what was to come...

  • i love how on every unkown kansas song i see, there are comments saying how this is their best, but i rarley see thoese things on the mega huge hits kansas live on

  • @AlexRandomness658 Even Kansas had to try to be merchial on the radio. I have every album they ever did and Walshes Solo also. Love this Band.

  • Awesome tune!

  • Kansas' name literally means, 'south wind'. They hit #23 in Billboard, 8-4-79. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • Pretty interesting song. Amazingly this was a top 40 song but they don't even play it on the radio. Such a shame.

  • Haha what an epically cheesy keyboard riff. Jordan Rudess would be proud :D

  • @SonOfYoungwood I would like to see Dream theater cover some of Kansas's song's that would be awesome kind of like father and son.

  • @danno5662 i think they did a cover of 'Carry on my Wayward son'. atleast that was what i was told.

  • masterpiece of rock music....

  • One of the greatest sounds I've ever heard .

  • Too bad this don`t get enough radio as "carry on".... radio sucks these days

  • very 70's feel to it...niiiiice

  • Remember "People of the South Wind" translates to Kansas

  • Remember "People of the South Wind" translates to Kansas

  • I think some quacks at the beginning would sound cool... I realize that sounds crazy...

  • Uno de los más grandes grupos de todos los tiempos es sin lugar a dudas, Kansas y su álbum Monolith me recuerda a los famosos monlitos de Tiwanaku en mi país Bolivia. Saludos desde las laturas de La Paz.

  • What can I SAY??? YEEEAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!! Thankyou! Good looking out! APB

  • I've always totally loved this song and for some inexplicable reason,I never truly tire of it. I can, offhand, only count a few songs that I don't ever get tired of.

  • still have this album on audio tape .. does it count?.. :)

  • i miss Kansas and Kansas.

  • another great Kansas song

  • uno de los discos preferidos, monolith y su canción.

  • has to be one of the best pop/prog mixes I've heard... they usually don't go as smooth as this.

  • one of the greatest rock bands of that era. can i get witness!!!!!!!!

  • My favorite song by Kansas!!

  • Its not only the people of the south wind its also the music from the good old times - there are some who can still remember what good music was. Long live Ritchie Blackmore.

  • Thanks for uploading this song. Kansas was one of my favorite groups back in the day.

Their music, intesity and lyrics really meant a lot.

  • Thanks for posting these. I no longer have all my Kansas LP's. Back in the day I pretty much wore "Monolith" out.

And , ya, the fact that Kansas isn't in the hall of fame pretty much shows that the voters are a bunch incompetent dolts.

  • Phil Ehart is so good!

  • Kansas is clearly another band being snubbed by the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame...these beautiful composotions stand the test of time and the fact they inducted Grandmaster Flash over alot of the progressive-arena era(Kansas,Moody Blues,Deep Purple,KISS,Journey,Cheap Trick,YES,ELP,Jethro Tull,etc)..clearly shows their lack of true "Rock" fans best interests,oh well....Carry On My Wayward Son...

  • Did You Know?

    The word KANSAS

.... means "people of the South Wind"

  • deep cut.........great tune

  • YEAH BABY!

  • i still have this album on vinyl, original and in mint condition!! :-)

  • i envy you!!

  • and just so you know....i also have Boston's debut in mint, Moody Blues "Long Distance Voyager" in mint as well, an old Todd Rundgren's Utopia album from '76 in mint....sometimes it pays off to have looked after them, and played them on a low mass cartridge! it also means i'm old ;-)

  • I saw them at the RKO Orpheum Theater in Davenport IA in 1979. When they did "Icarus - Born On The Wings Of Steel" and got to the "early in the morning" part the bass was so low that the seats shook so hard that I grabbed on to both arms of the chair and looked up to the ceiling because I thought the place was going to crack up. Kerry Livgren & Rich Williams playing off of each other's guitar was outstanding.

  • how cool was that, wish I could have seen that, peace!

  • Steve Walsh has one of the very best voices in the music world. Love Love Love Kansas!!! Saw them in concert in St. Louis a couple of years ago and they were GREAT!!!

  • Absolutely, chick, nobody compares!

  • Hey Rosalind1952! Great to know that there are more people out there like me who love Kansas!!! Not to mention that your name Rosalind is very very close to my real first name. Keep on rockin' with Kansas!!!

  • Hi Chick, Since I've discovered YouTube I am totally blown away by all of the incredible Kansas tunes that keep getting posted by the incredible fans, so I'm with you sista, Rock On!!!!!!

  • Hey Rosalind1952! Have you checked out the song "All I Wanted" or the 4 minute web movie that Steve Walsh made?? Do a search of Steve Walsh Kansas and it should be there. The web movie is very strange but delightfully cool. Rock on!

  • Steve Walsh at his best. Just nice to see this on here.

  • Talking about album art takes me back to a time where it was more than just the music when you bought an album... sometimes it was an entire expierence. I mean you not only had the album art which was usually really cool but you usually had info inside... even lyrics!! lol

Don't get me wrong CDs and now digital music may beat the sound quality of albums by a long shot but I will always feel like albums were more "fun"... hehe :).

  • Wow! been a while since I've heard this one! I bought the album back in 1980,...I'd sit there next to the stereo listening to this & just staring at the album cover etc.

That's one thing that I realy do miss is the great album covers! Thanks for posting this one riversend21!!!!!!!!

  • they should have their own rockband, or at least an assload of songs on the next one

  • Love the cover art. Great song, remember when it was first released. thanks for posting it.

  • Another underrated Kansas song: 'Windows'

  • man, the first time I heard this song was on MTV back in the 80's. gawd does this bring me back.

  • Not their biggest hit, but, I think, their best song.

  • I agree!! This song rocks, and the vocals rock even more!!

  • One of their best songs at least.

  • @jwmellott great album one of their best.

  • 2:18-2:31...one of the greatest music clips ever

  • Indeed,Thank you for the comment.

  • How is it different from the first 15 seconds?

  • This is an absoluting great song............love it....

  • Thank You for the comment !

  • Add me to the list as well - this brings back memories of my sophmore/junior years of high school.

  • Thank You for the comment !

  • Two years out of high school for me; junior in college, as a matter of fact, at the University of Dayton. Saw them play at Riverfront Stadium in Cincy, August 13, 1979. I'll never forget the energy and intensity of that band. Superb!

  • Love this tune !!! It instantly transports me

back to the days of discovery/freedom of high school.

    Thanx 4 the time travel...

    KEEP ROCKIN'......

  • The age of me is equal to Mr. rjp333. I also heard it at high school days. Thank you for the comment.

  • I always thought the title was, people of the southland . there are several songs i have a hard time hearing though.

  • Kansas : 1 of the top 5 bands of all time !

    Long Live Kerry Livgren.

  • Great song and great BAND!!!!!!!!!!
