he's a pretty good dude, but this scene is how he's ignorant to Dukie's needs because he's so focused on Bug. Dukie needs for people he trusts to give him an atmosphere in which he can flourish, and while Michael does that, because Dukie's good with Bug, he also doesn't take into account Dukie's self-respect and what it would look like to other people. Michael basically makes Dukie his bitch in this scene and doesn't even realize it

@sammythemc I think there is more to it than that. Agree he is helping Bug, but I think this is actually more about him helping Dukie. He realises that Dukie is not cut out for the corners (ie Spider refusing to give him the count) and knows he has to take him off.By telling him that he does not need to work the courners and is doing enough to get paid, he is trying to soften the blow of simply sacking him. Michael is cold but a realist- yes he hurt D's feelings but overall it's for his benefit.
