Thanks so much for spending the time to make these videos. Has helped in watching them all. After getting my HD4000 today I've decided to get both the balancing plate and the arm brace. Even though I do kungfu and Tai chi and we do a bunch of static poses that greatly increase arm strenght, I am wore out after just a couple of minutes. I am however flying a 6 pound camera so the weight is pretty crazy heavy.
One last note, getting a hotshoe dual bubble level helps the process.
Jared, I have the HD-1000 and a Canon VIXIA M31, which is a 1.5 lb camera (at most). I am having a terrible time trying to achieve vertical balance with this setup; I have spent hours over the last few days. How many counter weights would you recommend using, and what else could I do? Thanks in advance.
Now I don't actually own a Glidecam, or any hand-held stabilizer for that matter, I will probably be buying the HD-1000 sometime in the next week or so. And since I saw that you actually have to hold it out relatively far away from your body here, I started thinking about the stamina you were talking about. I think holding out a weight (straight out from your body) would exercise the same muscles as the Glidecam, so that could help your stamina a bit, I would think. Nice video, by the way! :)
Thanks for this video. I just bought a 2000 pro for my Canon HV40 (also small). The most beneficial parts of the video for me are the "if you change [this], then [this] happens." For instance, stating that during your drop test, making the post longer makes it more bottom heavy, that helped me. I'm still trying to figure out the best number of counterweights for my 1.6 lb. camera.
Very useful. Gives a excellent feel for the complexities of both setting it up and traveling with it. Since I usually have to travel, i guess I will put off buying one.
Was this video shot in HD? Very helpful in vlogging, and informational. I'm a thinner guy and the bottom of the glide cam was bumping into me when I first used it as well; very annoying.
@jaredx2 may i ask what is the downside in shooting on an SD and where do u really have to place your second hand, underneath or on top of the gimbal? im having a problem with swaying, your last test video shows a lil' bit of swaying too and i hope i could get rid of it. it seems the second supporting hand is the culprit. thanks!
@xcydenham based on my experience, don't use your other hand! the only time I'd use my other hand was to turn or stop. In this video, you see lots of up and down motion: IMO he's not holding the handle in the right position. Jaredx2 is using an arm vest which honestly, looking at this video didn't help him much. It's really how you hold it and walk. And you don't NEED to carry that tripod like he says. USE ONE HAND
@defnyung I really appreciate the advice... much thanks to you. i guess i have to concentrate more on how to hold it with one hand and how to move my feet to make the shot stable then. thanks again and more power to you!
yeah this vid is better

@matt2047 Matt, did you balance the Glidecam?
I have the HD1000 and the Canon Vixia HF10 and I have the same problem with the vertical balance.
Please, can you help me?

Ah. The bit about the quick release screws screwing in makes a huge difference in getting the HFS100 to balance. Thanks for the second video!
