Pres. Obama: I Struggle With Gay Marriage

He'll get there, maybe even next term (if he wins). I'll point out a couple things:

1) It is largely inevitable. The NYTimes pointed out that when ppl change their minds on this, it's never from supporting gay marriage to opposing it; it's always the other way. So support is building, slowly but steadily and in a solid way.

2) It's a state issue, not federal. It'd help if he said he favored it, but that's one step in a large puzzle. The real effort needs to be made as they are in Cali. and Wash.

In fact, if almost any other democrat were to try to challenge Obama in 2012 I would be all over them most likely. I simply think that Obama is using gay marriage as a political tool. Regardless of when it will happen, it will happen. I though the Pres handled the question very well about gay marriage and he's right, we still need to debate this for all the points of LEGAL value, this is not from a religious standpoint, I'm not religious nor should this be debated from that standpoint. During elections I remember him saying that he supports Civil Unions but "marriage" is up the the Church to decided. - I myself can not wrap my mind around how that works really. When a man and women get married they are given the title and legal right to them by the Government not by the church they attend..

Yea, just like evolution, it takes a damn long time to show significant change, and in this case the change will pop up either during the election (But will probably be a random mutation that doesn't last long) or will be post presidency. @snipzor to the contrary, as it winds it way up to the supreme court, it will happen. guaranteed rights cannot be decided by majority popularity... by definition, they're guaranteed.

remember marriage is not recognized as rite. it's only recognized as a a civil right! unless a marriage is registered by a public municipality it is invalid, even if the pope himself performed the ceremony. & regardless of any religion's rules, divorce is legal if it's granted by a civil court, not by a religion.
