  • I used to play heel toe until I went to a Steve Gadd clinic and he was showing heel toe and slide, and I thought slide was the coolest (and simplest) to uses. I personally like the first note of the double to be a little quieter because it adds a mini crescendo to whatever comes right after.

  • me hell toe on single flat foot on double

  • I'll appreciate if anyone could help me. My pedal seems to be very stiff, like it has a lot of tension in it. I have to use a lot of effort to even do a single kick, compared to what i see in the video, where only a slight touch with force from the ankle is required to hit the beater onto the drum. For me I have to use strength from even my calf just to do one kick. Can anyone give me suggestions on how to modify my pedal? thx alot in advance

  • @mindfreakerry One thing you can do is loosen the spring tension. Also, no quality pedal is going to make it difficult to even make one stroke. If you pedal is THAT stiff, I'd recommend going to your local music store and checking out new pedals.

  • i do everything heels down, even double pedal, but when i use slide technique. although it seems to be a hybrid between heel toe and slide...

  • Just tried slide technique for the first time, It was easy to to though felt a little qwerky since I've never done it before especially for my left foot

  • I feel I have the heel-toe technique down pretty well on my right foot, not so much with my left. Now I wanna learn how to do the slide tech.

  • You can go that fast without a technique? To get fast you practice. Techniques are useful don't get me wrong but you don't need one.

  • @NathannRamirez WRONG. Of course you need to practice to get fast lol. But if you wanna do double strokes, it's best to use double strokes foot techniques.

Try doing double strokes with heel-up technique. It is gonna be really difficult.

  • how much does footwear affect your playing? in terms of the slide technique?... might sound foolish to ask. thanx...

  • @jayroll005 Yes it does. It will be easier to slide if you wear shoes than barefooted because barefoot has more friction.

The surface of the pedal also affect the playing too. The smoother the board, the easier for your feet to slide.

  • @joshuachan56 Actually, wearing socks is the best for this technique.

  • @boobsmakemehappy1 True. But for me, i prefer to wear shoes as i have more control than wearing socks. Socks is too slippery for me :P

  • @joshuachan56 Yeah, that makes sense. I like wearing socks so I can do it on both feet and use it to do uber fast rolls.

  • @boobsmakemehappy1 if you can do slide technique on both feet, then your really, extremely super good. How bout you make a video and show us?

  • tnx to diz vid., i learned it.., choink..,

natutunan ko toh agad eh., buti nlng nakita ko tong palabas na toh

  • i imagined a testicle on his foot XD

  • Seeing this technique and the heel-toe technique from other guy in this series in slo-mo, I notice that real difference between the two is that in the slide the first stroke is with the toe and second is with the ball of the foot. In the heel-toe it is just reversed.

  • awesome lesson \m/

  • Heel toe seems kind of faster to me but harder to do

  • I found out the same way you did except I was trying to do it due to band's like Bad Religion and NOFX

  • my foot is to big for heel toe!

  • for some reason i do it the other way around...

i start up and end down:P atleast with my right foot.

my left foot starts down than up...

    good or bad????

  • @joeyw1993 idk... sounds weird. You do slide on both feet?

  • @Therysinx yes, althow i used to use the heel-toe technique but i really wanted to learn the slide technique

  • @joeyw1993 Sweet... I tried heel toe and got the motion(the right one that could be done on any footboard) but i could only do it at good pace but it wasn't as fast and powerful as slide. So i just stuck with slide. You must be really good to do slide dbl strokes with both feet :)

  • @Therysinx ooh you got me all wrong, i'm really not that good:Pand my left foot is still my dumb foot lol, but i'll just keep practising!! thats the key to any succes!!

  • Explaination is perfect

  • i taught myself this before i even knew it existed...haha

  • if you keep practicing double strokes on your bass drum, you will develop speed. i dont think the specific learning of this sort of technique is nesessary

  • Awesome!!!!

  • If you covered Don't Call Me White or Decom Poseour by NOFX with this technique, now, THAT would be awesome.

  • @Carlos2312 YES.

Smelly is a great, underrated drummer. NOFX RAWKS!

  • double kick is for pussies

  • @goodeyesniper14

Sure, dude... Double Bass is for pussies... Watch Iron Maiden's drummer, Nicko McBrain, he does everything with ONE foot!

  • @HangarOFmetaL exactly...and hes one of the best drummers ever

  • @goodeyesniper14

    Totally agree with that!

  • @goodeyesniper14

I disagree, man. It's lame only if you use two pedals to do something you can do with one.

  • @madnessxxi ya but i feel as if when you use only one pedal it opens up your mind to do cooler things and not just relying on your double kick

  • Lol, Blink 182 and Sum 41 are both in my top 3 favourite bands! It's a shame I'm not a heel-up drummer, so I can't really get much out of this video...

  • @ryancoll22 It's not too late to learn,though.

  • @ryancoll22 sure you can ! I am a heel down player myself, and I like this technique :)

  • I tend to do this thing where my foot stays in the middle of the footboard, but I slide to the right a bit to catch it on its way back up.

  • @Magefire75 me too.

  • Today I started practicing this technique, on my DW 9000 pedal, and i wore shoes with LOTS of grip, I most of the time got stuck ont he first note, would you suggest trying again with less grip ?

  • @Plaguemix I know you're probably asking this to the guys in the videos, but maybe I can help you out. I also have the 9000 and find it really difficult to play with shoes on at all, so I play with just my socks on. Really helps out a lot. I've always played without shoes though, so yeah, you might want to try it with a less "grippy" shoe.

  • @IAmMattLewis thanx mate, I'll give it a try tomorrow, I actually got used to playing with socks on my perl demon drive single pedal.. and I have to say.. fuck that shit :p I'll let you know if it improves! :)

  • 0:09 we're gonna talk aboot :P

  • I use this technique and I love it but I realized my foot literally slides only when I play fast. On slower tempos my foot only goes back and forth, it doesn't really slide over the pedal. Am I doing something wrong? It works for me anyway.

Sorry if I didn't explain it well... Bad english :S

  • Can you do a tutorial on the Swivel Technique? thanks! :)

  • I've been having some troubles trying to learn the heel-toe since I saw it in Jared's last tutorial, however I just went to my kit and tried this and it worked almost instantly, thanks!

  • My roommate is so go at it, I just can't seem to get it.

  • Alright, shoot me some unoriginal comments.

  • I do a combination of Heel-Toe and this slide technique with out even knowing I'm doing it. Ive only been drumming for about a year now.

  • First!
