I never get tired of watching this fascinating movie. There always seems to be something I've missed or something I view differently. Also, it's wonderful escapist fare.
Although what's the occasion special enough to merit white tie? Someones debutante season? I haven't watched this video all the way through yet. I love everyone's evening clothes nonetheless ^_^
I love when he says "do you know what pulling a train means?" and she says "I don't think so" but the guy in the background with the blue hat is shaking his head yes. Whit Stillman fills his pictures with a complete world, and his dioulge is brilliant. Also Chris Eigeman is soo good in Whit's movies, I couldn't picture them without him.
It's surprising that Stillman has only made two films since and niether film has made much of a splash. He seems to have hit his peak with metropolitan.
Polly Perkins ... it sounds familiar !

It is a ladies fashion store on Oxford @ Regent Street London.

a great film...this is real film making , not the trashy hollywood fare dished out to make a quick buck

Yeah, it's always been a favorite of mine. I also think its a bit redundant to rip on the hollywood vehicle when praising a film like Metropolitan.

I absolutely adore "Jane" .
I disagree that Stillman hit his peak with Metropolitan and it was down hill from there ...
I like the other Whit Stillman films, "Barcelona" and "The Last Days of Disco" . I think they form a trilogy with "Metropolitan".

I always liked Jane the girl to Nick's (the storytellers) left. Sweet silent Jane. Whit Stillman we hardly knew ye!
